Realme Buds Q2s Design and Comfort

The Realme Buds Q2s has a really interesting design, especially the case. It comes in a round-shaped case with a transparent lid, something which I have never seen. It looks really good at first glance, and you can clearly see the buds lying inside.

However, you’ll know that it’s prone to scratches and a fingerprint magnet only when you start using it for a while. It is available in three colour options: Black, White and Green. My personal favourite was the white variant which I have for the review.

The case is quite compact and lightweight, weighing just about 39 grams and I could easily slide it into my pocket. It also has a tiny LED on the front side, while the back houses the type-C port for charging.

Realme Buds Q2s comfort

The buds themselves weigh just about 4.2 grams each and hence feel super comfortable to wear for long durations. The default fit was really nice for me, but you can change the silicone buds (provided in the box) to find your perfect fit.

They have a textured finish all over the touch-sensitive area. The earbuds also have an IPX4 rating which will protect them from minor splashes and sweat.

Realme Buds Q2s Audio Quality

The Realme Buds Q2s comes with 10mm audio drivers to deliver a great audio experience. They also offer Dolby Atmos to provide rich audio if your phone supports it. Considering its price, I’m pretty impressed with the sound quality.

Realme Buds Q2s Audio Quality

These earbuds are a little more focused on bass and you can sense that as soon as you listen to songs, especially Hip-Hop and Jazz. I really enjoyed listening to my Spotify playlist while commuting to work.

The volume gets pretty loud, but then it also starts to distort. The earbuds come with three preset audio profiles to select from the app – Bass Boost+, Balanced, and Bright. As you can tell by the name, the Bass Boost+ increases the bass to the next level. But let me tell you, the bass just overpowers everything else, even the vocals. I did not like it much and switched back to Balanced mode.

Realme audio profiles

The Realme Buds Q2s also features ENC, which uses AI to suppress the background noise. Now, I won’t say it’s amazing but it does the job pretty good for the price. It can cancel out the chatters in the office but not the heavy traffic on the road.

Call quality is just about average. It definitely picks up noise from the background but the audio of the other person on the call was clear.

Realme Buds Q2s Battery and Charging

The Realme Buds Q2s packs a 400 mAh battery inside the case and each earbud holds 40 mAh to offer great battery performance. The company claims a battery life of seven hours on a single charge and 30 hours with the case.

However, I got slightly more than 6 hours of battery life on a single charge which is not exactly what Realme claims but not bad either. You can see the battery left in the buds using the Realme Link app; however, there’s no way to know the exact battery left in the case.

The LED on the case gives a slight idea about the remaining battery – green means full while red means low.

Coming over to charging, the case takes little more than two hours to fully charge, while the earbuds alone take an hour to charge. But what’s really impressive is that it supports fast charging, and a quick charge of just 10 minutes can offer a playback time of 3 hours.

Realme Buds Q2s Features and Connectivity

The Realme Buds Q2s comes with Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and offers really stable connection for up to 10 meters. Pairing the earbuds is pretty easy. All you have to do is open the case and see the nearby Bluetooth devices on your phone.

You can also download the Realme Link app on your Android and iOS devices to access various features of the buds. The app is simple to use but I couldn’t read anything when the Dark mode was enabled on my phone, which is weird. I had to switch back to Light mode to use the app properly.

You can double tap, triple tap and use the tap and hold gesture to access various functions like play/pause music, skip a track or go back to the previous track as well as the voice assistant. The app lets you customise all these touch controls. Sadly, there’s no option to control volume using the touch controls.

There’s also a low-latency gaming mode which can be accessed by tapping and holding the touch sensitive area on both buds simultaneously. This mode reduces the latency to as low as 88 ms which is really good for gamers.

low-latency gaming mode

There’s no in-ear detection feature which means the song will not automatically pause if you take the earbuds out of your ear. This feature is usually seen on more expensive earbuds, so I’m not surprised that it’s not present here.

Verdict

So should you buy the Realme Buds Q2s? For a price of under 2k, the Buds Q2s gets an easy recommendation from me. The earbuds looks good and offers decent sound quality with deep bass and AI ENC.

The low latency gaming mode combined with the solid battery life delivers a great overall experience. You can also customise the touch controls and do much more using the app. The mic quality could have been better as well as the build quality of the case, but it does the job.

All in all, the Realme Buds Q2s are a nice pair of TWS earbuds for daily use. However, if you want better audio quality and ANC, you can take a look at its bigger brother Realme Buds Q2.
