OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Review
Since Oppo stopped announcing new models in the Find series, the Reno series seems to be the company’s flagship option in India for a few years. So far, the Reno Pro concept has been rather simple: thin bodies combined with curved displays and lightning-fast charging. Oppo’s latest Reno7 series was recently debuted in India, and I’ve had some time to use it as a daily driver. While the charging aspect of the new Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G remains the same, Oppo has chosen to change things up with the appearance. Yes, there is a dazzling new design featuring flat edges, as this is the new Android trend. But aside from that, the Reno7 Pro hasn’t changed all that much.
It’s still a Reno 6 Pro at its core, simply rebranded in a newer body and upgraded specs. It has a sleek design and runs the powerful Mediatek Dimensity 1200 Max processor. It also has a better 32MP front camera. But how well does the phone work in real life? Here’s my take on the new Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G.

OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Design and Build
The Reno series has long been known for its design, and the Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G is no exception. For starters, the body now sports flat edges with a rectangular frame, and at 7.5mm, it is the Reno series’ thinnest smartphone yet. The Reno7 Pro 5G’s glass back gets a new finish. Oppo claims to have created hundreds of diagonal micro-etches visible from certain angles using new laser technology. The finish is nice to the touch and does not attract fingerprints.
The camera’s housing is likewise interesting, with two islands housing the 50MP primary camera and 2MP macro lens, and the wide-angle camera and LED flash on the other. The Orbit Breathing Light is a really cool feature that users will get here, a 1mm accent light that surrounds the camera housing and illuminates while the smartphone is charging or when you get a notification or a call. Of course, to use the effect, you’ll need to place the Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G face-down on a flat surface.

The smartphone isn’t too big, which means it is easy to hold, and the flat edges don’t dig into your palm. When placed on a flat table, the metallic chassis looks premium and anyone can tell so by looking at it. Of course, OPPO has flattened out the phone’s back and front to match its overall style. I absolutely love the design of the OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G. The weight has also been managed in such a way that the smartphone feels light even when used for lengthy periods of time. I can comfortably say that right now, the Reno7 Pro seems to be the best flat-edged Android smartphone in the market.
When it comes to port layout, the smartphone has a power button on the right side. The volume rocker is located on the left side. OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G has a SIM card tray at the bottom, adjacent to the USB Type-C port and speaker grills, which sets it apart from any other phones on the market.
Notably, this smartphone lacks a 3.5mm audio jack and the option to expand storage capacity with a microSD card. Another letdown is that the Reno7 Pro 5G lacks official IP certification, unlike its predecessor.
OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Display
Coming on to the display, Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G comes with a 6.55-inch full-HD+ AMOLED panel with a refresh rate of 90Hz. This display has a 20:9 aspect ratio, and since it is an AMOLED panel, it has the Always-On-Display (AOD) feature. The AMOLED panel offers excellent contrast levels and colour accuracy. The FHD+ screen supports HDR10+, and according to OPPO, it is HDR certified for Netflix as well as Prime Video.
The display is great in terms of what it delivers. It is not the brightest phone display we’ve seen in recent times, with a maximum brightness of 800 nits. It did, however, prove bright enough under most lighting conditions, including direct sunlight. Colour calibration is excellent. The 90Hz refresh rate makes for a flawless visual experience, but given the price of the Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G, I would have wanted a 120Hz display. The 90Hz panel allows for smooth UI interaction and scrolling.
Furthermore, the colour reproduction is excellent, and the graphics appear to be realistic. I loved playing graphic demanding games such as BGMI and Asphalt 9 Legends, my favourites as you all know already. The display performs well in most situations and offers a great viewing experience. On top of that, the display is protected by Corning Gorilla 5, which will handle minor scratches
OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Performance
When it comes to hardware, it’s a similar picture. Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G has the same layout as its predecessor, but it now has a Dimensity 1200 Max label thanks to two new features: AI Deblur for improving selfie image quality and AI-PQ for adding HDR effects to standard videos. There doesn’t appear to be any performance boost with this ‘Max’ version of the SoC, so it should perform as usual for all other tasks. If you use ColorOS’ RAM expansion option, you can increase the 12GB RAM by assigning 7GB of storage.
Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G has no trouble running any of your favourite apps and games. In terms of performance, it seems like a flagship phone, which is to be expected from a smartphone that costs Rs. 40,000. The phone didn’t break a sweat when it came to daily tasks such as using social media apps, checking email, taking photographs, receiving calls, replying to texts, and more. Even when I multitask with about 12-15 apps running in the background, there were no noticeable lags, hanging, or freezing animations.
To see how well this phone handles graphic demanding games, I played PUBG: New State, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Asphalt 9: Legends. The games ran smoothly and the touch response was on point even with all of the graphical settings turned up to the maximum limit. After roughly half an hour of gameplay, the phone began to warm up, but frame rates remained consistent throughout.

OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Software
In terms of software, OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G comes with ColorOS 12, which is based on Android 11. I was a little disappointed to see Android 11 on a smartphone in 2022, but ColorOS has progressed well over time and is now one of the best user interfaces available. You get the standard set of features, such as dual apps, gaming mode, multi-window, and a slew of themes to choose from. ColorOS will make you feel right at home if you enjoy using a custom UI with a lot of features. There is a lot of bloatware on Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G, but most of it is third-party applications that can be easily uninstalled. Other features include Omoji (limited to AOD and the device’s account profile photo), Quantum Animation Engine, Anti-peeping notifications, Clone Phone 2.0, AI System Booster, and more. There is currently no word on when the smartphone will receive Android 12.

To begin with, you can modify the size and design of icons, apply visually appealing live wallpapers, change the app layout, and apply different themes. Users can also customize the colour scheme of text and the overall appearance of the notification drawer with ColorOS 12.
OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Camera
Now we’ll get to the phone’s main highlights: the Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G’s cameras. With the Reno7 Pro, Oppo has gone to great measures to deliver a fantastic photography experience. The phone is equipped with an intriguing set of cameras. The device features a triple-lens camera layout that includes a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary lens, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. A 32MP front camera sensor is housed inside the punch-hole cutout on the top of the display.
Let me get right to the point. The Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G’s 50MP primary camera captures images that look pleasing to the eye in good lighting conditions. The colours and dynamic range look fantastic in daylight. The subtle bokeh while taking close-up shots is very nice. Shots are slightly cooler, which some people prefer, particularly if they prefer photographs with higher contrast levels. The phone’s Night Mode allows it to take good photos even in low-light situations. Although there is a visible drop in detail levels, I believe OPPO did a wonderful job with its primary sensor on the Reno7 Pro 5G.
The ultra-wide lens falls short of the primary camera’s performance and is a letdown. At this pricing, an 8MP sensor appears to be a cost-cutting tactic. In comparison to the primary camera, the details are missing, and the colours appear dull. The third camera on the backside is a 2MP macro camera, which serves no real purpose. The Macro lens could perhaps give you useable shots under good lighting conditions.

The 32MP selfie camera, on the other hand, is really good. With vivid colours and a wide dynamic range, selfies appear crisp. Skin tones are a little off because it brightens the face a tiny bit, but not too much. The edge detection while using portrait mode looks fantastic as well. The front-facing camera on the OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G is great for taking selfies or creating short-form videos for social media.
When it comes to video, the Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G’s main rear camera can record at up to 4K resolution, but only at 30fps. If you want 60fps, you’ll have to lower the resolution to 1080p. Although the stabilisation was good, bright areas were sometimes overexposed. The video quality of the ultra-wide lens was unexpectedly good.
OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Battery
Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G comes with a 4500mAh battery, which is the exact same capacity as the Reno 6 Pro. Its 4500mAh battery cell will be enough to keep the smartphone running for a whole day without needing to charge it. But only if you’re a casual user. During the testing period, I was playing a few games, checking email, getting calls, scrolling through social media, taking pictures, and using navigation. If you are a heavy user, you would need to charge the phone twice a day. The device is thin and light without compromising battery life.
But don’t worry about running out of battery, the Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G can charge at 65W using the charger included in the box. It took me roughly 35 minutes to fully charge the device from 0 to 100 per cent, which is quite outstanding.

OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Audio, Connectivity, Biometrics
While the performance and display are both excellent, the Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G also shines in the audio department. It boasts stereo speakers, which were previously unavailable on previous Pro models. While acceptable in personal environments, in-call loudness is not good for use outdoors, when ambient noise will increase tenfold.
The Reno7 Pro 5G has 5G, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and the typical suite of satellite navigation technologies as connectivity options. The smartphone has an in-display fingerprint scanner and face recognition, both of which work well. However, I prefer the sensor to be integrated into the power button since it is more convenient.
OPPO Reno7 Pro 5G Pros & Cons
Pros
- 65W flash charge
- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage
- 32MP front IMX709 sensor
- Gorilla Glass 5 protection
- Dual 5G connectivity
- 90Hz refresh rate
Cons
- Only 4500 mAh battery
- No SD card slot
- No 3.5mm headphone jack
Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G is a worthy successor to the Reno 6 Pro, and Oppo did the right thing by reducing the price. The upgraded camera sensors, flat display, and stereo speakers are all great additions. The battery life is quite good, and having super-fast charging is a plus. Although the camera lacks several high-end hardware functions like 8K video recording, the AI-enabled features and abundance of settings and filters will be valuable to photographers and vloggers.
By the way, ColorOS 12 on the Oppo Reno7 Pro 5G appears to be rather nice. And the device’s 90Hz display offered a fairly pleasant experience during my time with it. In short, if you want a stylish smartphone with an AI camera, the Reno7 Pro 5G should do the job. The only problem will be justifying that it is better compared to the OnePlus 9RT or Xiaomi 11T Pro, both of which are similarly priced and have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.
