Review Summary

With the launch of the OnePlus 12R, is the OnePlus 11R still a good choice in 2024? The OnePlus 11R made its debut last year, offering great specifications at a reasonable price. I have been using the phone for a while now, and here is my long-term review of the OnePlus 11R.

The OnePlus 11R offers a premium glass back design with a large circular camera module. Despite the sandstone finish, I recommend using a case as the phone has a tendency to slip when kept on a surface.

The 1.5K LTPO AMOLED screen is crisp and perfect for consuming content. The 5,000mAh battery can easily last a day, and 100W charging can be topped up within 30 minutes.

But how does the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 perform in 2024? Should you spend more money and opt for the OnePlus 12R instead of the OnePlus 11R? To find out, read my long-term review of the OnePlus 11R.

OnePlus 11R Design And Build

The OnePlus 11R has a design similar to that of its pricier sibling, the OnePlus 11. A large circular camera module on the back blends into the side frame.

OnePlus 11R Design

My Sonic Black variant has a glass back with a sandstone finish. Apart from the Hasselblad branding on the camera module, the rest of the phone looks similar to the OnePlus 11 with its triple camera setup.

The back remains clean, and the OnePlus logo is at the centre of the phone. It also has Gorilla Glass 5 on the back for protection, so you don’t have to worry about scratches.

The phone does not feel heavy or bulky despite weighing around 204 grams and being 8.7mm thick. It feels premium to hold in hand, although I would recommend using a case as the glass back has a tendency to slip when kept on a surface.

Unlike the OnePlus 11, the OnePlus 11R is available in three colours: Galactic Silver, Sonic Black, and a special Solar Red. These are the same colours as those on the recently launched OnePlus 12R.

Coming to ports and placements, the power button and the iconic alert slider are on the right. The alert slider remains my favourite feature on the OnePlus phones, as it offers a clicky and tactile finish.

Furthermore, the volume rockers are on the left, while the top houses the IR blaster and secondary microphone.

OnePlus 11R Bottom

At the bottom, you will be greeted by the USB-C port, speaker grille, and SIM tray.

OnePlus 11R Camera

The OnePlus 11R features a 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.

During the day, the 50-megapixel Sony IMX 890 sensor can take good shots with great details and exposure. Furthermore, the photos taken have saturated colours, which some might prefer while others won’t.

The 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor is average at best and doesn’t offer the same colour as the primary camera. Similarly, the 2-megapixel macro is only good on paper, and I wouldn’t recommend using it.

Regarding low-light photography, the OnePlus 11R is a bit of a hit-and-miss as the phone struggles to deal with glare from light sources. Sometimes, the phone manages to get the right shot with proper exposure, while at other times, it fails to deal with the glare from incoming light sources.

OnePlus 11R Selfie Sample

When it comes to the 16-megapixel selfie shooter, it can take good shots with accurate skin tones and colours. The OnePlus 11R can shoot up to 4K at 30 FPS from the primary and 1080p at 30 FPS from the selfie shooter.

Overall, the OnePlus 11R can take some decent shots; however, it doesn’t offer the best camera performance. If cameras are your priority, consider other devices like the Vivo V30 Pro or the Google Pixel 7 Pro.

Battery And Charging

The OnePlus 11R packs a 5,000mAh battery with 100W SUPERVOOC charging. Thanks to the 4nm chipset, you can easily expect 6 to 7 hours of battery life with regular usage.

OnePlus 11R Battery

Kudos to OnePlus for including a 100W charger in the box. With this charger, you can charge the phone fully in just 30 minutes, the same charging speed as the recently launched OnePlus 12 and 12R.

However, it is disappointing that OnePlus decided to skip out on wireless charging, given that the Nothing Phone (2), available for a similar price, does have it.

OnePlus 11R Display And Audio

The OnePlus 11R boasts a 6.74-inch AMOLED curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 1.5K resolution. Furthermore, the phone has Gorilla Glass 5 for protection and offers a peak brightness of 1450 nits.

The display has a centre punch hole cutout and slim bezels surrounding it. Thanks to the 1.5K resolution, everything, including text, looks crisp on the screen.

OnePlus 11R Content Consumption

You also get an immersive experience when watching content on the curved screen. I enjoyed watching “The Brother’s Sun” on Netflix due to the vibrant and saturated colours on offer.

OnePlus 11R Display Brightness

Furthermore, the screen is bright enough for outdoor usage, and I did not face any issues under harsh sunlight. You also get a Nature Tone display that automatically adjusts the screen’s colour temperature, similar to True Tone on iPhones.

OnePlus 11R Refresh Rate

With the 120Hz refresh rate, navigating through the user interface feels smooth and fluid. Sadly, there is no LTPO support here, but you do get a software-based Auto mode that can dynamically adjust the refresh rate.

The in-display fingerprint uses an optical sensor, which is fast and accurate, although I would have preferred an ultrasonic one. In addition, the OnePlus 11R offers a dual stereo speaker with Dolby Atmos that feels loud and crisp audio. You also get an IR Blaster to control appliances like TVs, ACs, setup boxes, etc.

OnePlus 11R Performance

The OnePlus 11R is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Although the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 isn’t as powerful as the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Gen 3, it is more than capable of handling most tasks.

Furthermore, the phone remains snappy in day-to-day usage, such as when opening multiple apps or scrolling through Twitter. Thanks to the 12GB of RAM, most of the apps I opened remained in memory. You also get virtual RAM expansion to expand the memory up to 12GB.

OnePlus 11R Gaming

When it comes to tasks like gaming, you can enjoy BGMI at Smooth and 90FPS and CODM at Ultra Frame Rate (90FPS). Despite being a year old, the OnePlus 11R remains a capable performer and maintains 90FPS even during intense gunfights.

Moreover, I also tried some demanding games, such as Wreckfest, Hitman Blood Money Reprisal, GTA SA Definitive Edition, Diablo Immortal, and Genshin Impact. I faced no heating issues during my prolonged gaming sessions, although the phone got slightly warm.

OnePlus 11R Benchmarks

Regarding benchmarks, the OnePlus 11R has a Geekbench score of 1400 in the single-core test and 3875 in the multi-core test. Furthermore, the phone throttles to 80 per cent in the 15-minute CPU throttling test and has a stability score of 62 per cent in the 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test.

The phone scores 1099326 in AnTuTu V10 and 69038 in the storage test. Overall, the OnePlus 11R remains a remarkable performer even a year after its launch.

OnePlus 11R Software And UI

The OnePlus 11R arrived with Oxygen OS 13 based on Android 13 and has now received the Oxygen OS 14 update based on Android. It is good to see OnePlus keeping its promise of three years of OS updates and four years of security patches for the phone.

This means the OnePlus 11R will receive updates until 2025, with Android 16 being the last update. Furthermore, security patches can be expected until 2026.

OnePlus 11R Oxygen OS 14

The Oxygen OS 14 update brings some new features, like File Dock, which allows you to transfer files between apps seamlessly. There is also a Battery Health feature and a feature to stop charging at 80 per cent to preserve your battery’s health.

OnePlus 11R Features

Another new addition is the Content Extraction feature, which can be used to extract objects and text from photos. You also get Smart Cutout, which can display timers, food, and phone calls in an ongoing pill similar to Dynamic Island on iPhones.

OnePlus 11R UI

Despite its similarities to ColorOS, OxygenOS remains one of the few skins offering a smooth and stable experience. Kudos to OnePlus for offering timely updates and a bloatware-free experience on its smartphones.

Verdict

Despite a year after its launch, the OnePlus 11R still manages to hold its forte with its beautiful curved display, smooth performance and long-lasting battery life. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 still remains a capable chipset that can handle any intensive task you throw at it.

The 11R has also received the latest Oxygen OS 14 update, which brings new features, and the phone will receive OS updates for another two years. However, the camera still remains the smartphone’s Achilles heel, putting it behind the rest of the competition.

The lack of an IP rating and wireless charging are also a bit disappointing. However, the OnePlus 11R remains a great choice thanks to its recent price cut, making it more affordable than ever.

While it doesn’t offer the best performance or cameras in this segment, it is an excellent choice for those looking for a good OnePlus smartphone. Other options in this segment include the OnePlus 12R, iQOO Neo 9 Pro, Nothing Phone (2) and the Vivo V30 Pro.
