REDMI 15 5G Design and Build
Xiaomi REDMI 15 5G features a large body with dimensions of 169.5 x 80.5 x 8.4 mm and weighs 217 grams. This phone has a beautiful back finish with cloudy prints, providing an eye-catching appearance. Moreover, its back does not easily attract fingerprint stains.
The phone features a body made of plastic (polycarbonate) and a camera island constructed from aerospace-grade metal. The overall frame is constructed from polycarbonate and features a curved rear design to enhance grip.
However, due to its large size, it isn’t easy to maintain a perfect grip in one hand while operating the phone.
I have tried multiple times to capture images with one hand, but it was hardly possible. Similarly, you can’t scroll the screen smoothly with a perfect grip.
During the REDMI 15 5G review, I’m entirely impressed with the overall finish; a brand that focuses on minor details to achieve a premium look.
Regarding ports, located at the top of the phone is the IR blaster, which allows you to use your phone as a TV remote.
The power button and volume controls are on the right side, and the SIM tray is on the left side. You can see a volume strip, a Type-C port, and a microphone at the bottom.
This phone comes with an IP64 rating for water resistance. I’m using Ripple Green colour while two more shades are available, including Midnight Black and Titan Grey.
REDMI 15 5G Camera
The Xiaomi REDMI 15 5G features a single rear camera, which offers decent image quality results. I clicked many images with this phone. Considering its price range, I’m totally impressed with its camera quality.
Talking about its main camera, it took excellent photos with accurate colours. You can see flower images, and mine too.
Colours are close to being true to life, and skin tones look natural without extra saturation. Yes, you can notice less vibrant colours and a lack of depth in the images.
While I took many photos in portrait mode, the phone clearly struggles to detect edges. There is also no zoom function in portrait mode. It also lacks OIS and struggles in low-light conditions, resulting in motion blur.
Moving on to the front camera, it captures images that are quite sharp. You can see my skin tone and depth in selfies. While portraits still struggle to detect accurate edges, there is no question about the overall image.
You can also record 1080p videos at 30 frames per second (fps) with both the rear and front cameras. I recorded a few videos to check its audio capturing capability. It performs well, but not noticeably.
REDMI 15 5G Battery and Charging
The Xiaomi REDMI 15 5G offers a large battery capacity of 7,000mAh cells. I used this phone to watch YouTube, scroll through social media, and occasionally play games. It provides almost two days of battery life on a single charge. However, if you use it excessively, it will last approximately one and a half days, which is still acceptable.
This phone comes with a 33W fast charger. Due to its large battery, it takes almost one and a half hours to charge fully. This phone charges a little slower compared to other phones in the same price range.
One of the best features is 18W reverse charging support, allowing you to charge your earbuds and smartwatches as well. Overall, REDMI 15 5G battery review is excellent.
REDMI 15 5G Display
The Xiaomi REDMI 15 5G features a large display, measuring 6.9 inches, and is equipped with an IPS LCD screen. I expect to have an AMOLED display if I’m spending 15,000 rupees.
Recently, I used Realme P4, CMF by Nothing Phone 2 Pro, and many other phones with AMOLED displays.
Moreover, this phone offers a refresh rate of up to 144Hz for fast display scrolling; however, the brand does not clarify in the settings which apps support this refresh rate. This is clearly a marketing stunt to claim a 144Hz refresh rate rather than offering a stable 120Hz. Recently, I reviewed Poco M7 Plus, which is a sub-brand of Xiaomi, and it did the same.
Moving on to brightness, it offers 600 nits (typ), 700 nits (HBM), and 850 nits (peak) brightness, which is not ideal for peak sunlight but works perfectly after 3.30 PM.
Brand also added a screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a Mohs level 6 protection, to safeguard the display against accidental damage.
I did not like its large bezels, which ruin my watching experience. Moreover, due to the IPS LCD, the deep black colour is not as accurate as it should be. Additionally, this phone lacks HDR support, so you cannot watch videos at maximum quality.
REDMI 15 5G Performance
The Xiaomi REDMI 15 5G features a Qualcomm SM6375 Snapdragon 6S Gen 3 (6 nm) chipset, ensuring smooth performance. I used this phone for daily tasks and never experienced any lag or slowdown. You can also enjoy casual gaming with this phone, although it cannot handle BGMI or high-resolution games.
This phone offers three storage options: 128GB with 4GB RAM, 128GB with 6GB RAM, and 256GB with 8GB RAM. It uses UFS 2.2 storage and includes a microSDXC slot for expandable storage. One of the best aspects of the REDMI 15 review is that I never felt any heating, even during benchmark tests.
I conducted several Benchmark tests on the REDMI 15 to evaluate its accurate performance in various aspects. Its Geekbench CPU scores are 935 in single-core and 2156 in multi-core. The maximum in the CPU throttling test is 92%. Moreover, its Antutu score is 629077. The 3DMark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test for stability has an overall score of 99.4%.
REDMI 15 5G Software and UI
The REDMI 15 5G review experience becomes more polished with the latest HyperOS 2.2 based on Android 15. The interface feels light and smooth in daily usage.
No ads are popping up, unlike in older MIUI versions, which is a huge relief. You can easily customise themes, icons, and fonts according to your liking.
One thing I really liked is the new control centre layout, which looks more modern and allows quick access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and brightness controls.
I also used the privacy dashboard to check app permissions, and it works flawlessly.
However, I did find a few pre-installed apps that I had to uninstall manually. Xiaomi has done a decent job cleaning up the UI, but there’s still some scope for improvement.
On the bright side, animations and scrolling feel smooth, especially when the 60Hz screen setting is enabled.
After spending two weeks with the REDMI 15 5G review, I can confidently say it’s a battery king in this price range. The overall design appears premium, and the performance is stable for daily use. You can easily scroll, stream, and multitask without lag.
However, if display quality and camera performance are most important to you, there are better AMOLED options available around ₹15,000, such as the CMF Nothing Phone 2 Pro and Realme P4. However, for those who seek a dependable phone with long battery life and a clean UI, the Redmi 15 5G is a solid everyday performer that delivers more than it promises.
