Review Summary

OnePlus has just launched the OnePlus 10T, adding to its T lineup. The new phone has a lot to offer than its predecessor. The phone looks premium and has a good built quality. On top of that, you get a stunning 120Hz display with blazing fast performance.

It does not end here, the phone supports industry-leading 150W SUPERVOOC fast charging. However, OnePlus has cut some corners here by not providing an alert slider. It also misses out on IP rating and wireless charging.

Even then, OnePlus has managed to shine bright in other fields. Let’s find out how the OnePlus 10T stands in under the 50k bracket in this review.

OnePlus 10T Review

After launching the OnePlus 10 Pro earlier this year, the company is back with the OnePlus 10T. There are some clear improvements here, like the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor and 150W SUPERVOOC charging.

But don’t think it’s an upgrade of the OnePlus 10 Pro, because it’s not. There are some omissions like the alert slider, wireless charging and official IP rating.

Overall, the OnePlus 10T seems to have the same focus on performance and speed that the company is known for. But let’s look at the rest of the phone in this OnePlus 10T review and see how it does.

OnePlus 10T Design and Build

Starting off with the design, the OnePlus 10T looks a lot like its sibling, the OnePlus 10 Pro. The OnePlus 10T’s glass back features a number of interesting design elements and details. OnePlus says that the rough, stone-like texture of the Moonstone Black variant was inspired by that of basalt.

OnePlus 10T Design

It’s very different from anything else we’ve seen done with glass and is quite unique. A further advantage is that it does not pick up fingerprints or smudges at all. At first, I thought OnePlus had gone for an Aluminum frame, but no, you get to see a plastic frame. It has a glossy finish, and the colour matches the rear of the device perfectly.

The camera bump seamlessly integrates into the unibody frame, with no visible gaps. You don’t get to see any Hasselblad branding around the camera or anywhere on the phone unlike the 10 Pro.

The 10T is not particularly a light phone, weighing at 203 grams, but the weight distribution is done well.

You will find the power button on the right side, whereas the left side has the volume controls. The bottom of the phone has a loudspeaker, Mic, Type-C port and Sim Card slot.

But wait, sadly, there is no alert slider. This might not be a big deal to some, but I don’t appreciate this move by OnePlus. Unfortunately, OnePlus has cut costs again by skipping an IP rating.

Overall, the OnePlus 10T looks and feels premium in hand, but I’m not so sure about its build and durability.

OnePlus 10T Camera

Coming to the camera, the OnePlus 10T features a triple camera setup on the back. It includes a 50MP main camera which uses a Sony IMX766 sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro sensor. You get to see a 16MP camera on the front for taking selfies.

The primary camera is the finest sensor on the device. Fortunately, the 10T’s camera quality is still quite good, even without help from Hasselblad. Colours and details are more vibrant and clear during the daytime.

OnePlus 10T Camera

The OnePlus 10T has a good lens for taking photos in low-light environments and at night. There are a lot of details and the noise is under control. The OnePlus 10T has a maximum digital zoom of 10X and an optical zoom of 2X. The optical zoom can still be used, but the digital zoom misses out on details.

Most of the images I took with the 8 MP ultra-wide camera had correct exposures. It offers a wide FOV, a nice dynamic range, and colours that are, for the most part, quite lovely. Unfortunately, the macro camera is nothing more than a piece of spec sheet padding. It fails to take any good shots. You can get the same macro shots from a 20k phone in the market.

Additionally, the software features are impressive, including an awesome night mode for taking photos as well as videos, an ultra HDR mode, portrait mode and much more.

The 16-megapixel front-facing camera works perfectly, and the overall image quality is very good, with accurate colour reproduction and a wide dynamic range. The background blurring generally works well, but you should expect having a little bit of your hair trimmed off.

OnePlus 10T can record high-quality 4K videos at up to 60 fps as well as 1080p slo-mo videos. 4K video quality is excellent, with high levels of detail, colour accuracy, and dynamic range. Unfortunately, the ultrawide lens can only record in 1080p at 30 fps.

OnePlus 10T Battery and Charging

The OnePlus 10T packs a 4800mAh battery which is just a little less than the 10 Pro (500mAh). Coming to the battery performance, the phone can easily last a day of casual use. I used the phone for some social media scrolling, casual gaming and making some calls. Even then I had some juice left for the next morning.

Now, if you are a heavy user who likes to have long gaming sessions, you would need to charge the phone by the evening. However, you don’t need to take a long break for that as the phone comes with blazing fast 150W fast charging support.

The phone packs a 160W SUPERVOOC charging brink in the box, but the phone supports up to 150W of fast charging. The phone can fully charge from 0 to 100 per cent in under 20 minutes with this 160W SUPERVOOC charger.

With just 10 minutes of charging, you can juice up the battery to 65 per cent, which is just mind-blowing.

OnePlus 10T Display

The OnePlus 10T features a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with HDR10+ support. The flat panel support a 120Hz refresh rate. 950 nit peak brightness makes it possible to see clearly even in bright sunlight.

The colours are bright and lively, just as I expected from top-of-the-line OnePlus smartphones, and the 120Hz rate ensures that navigation and animations are super fluid. The phone can switch the refresh rate between 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz based on what you’re doing to save battery life.

A 1000Hz touch sampling rate, HDR10+, and 10-bit colour accuracy make this a fantastic display for a smartphone. The display has a hole punch cut out for the camera on the centre, which might create some distraction while enjoying a movie.

As far as protection goes, OnePlus has used Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front. When it comes to experience alone, we’ve seen better displays at this price point, but that doesn’t mean the display of 10T is bad in any way. The 10T display is a great fit for watching movies or playing games.

OnePlus 10T Performance

When it comes to performance, it’s hard to beat the OnePlus 10T. It features the flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and is paired with up to 16GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The OnePlus 10T is a real beast that can handle almost any task without any trouble. I had a wonderful time using the phone for everything from multitasking and watching videos to playing games. The apps launches quickly and the 120Hz refresh rate makes everything smooth and seamless.

OnePlus 10T Performance

It’s a wonderful phone for gaming, with plenty of power to turn up the graphic settings and frame rates to the max. In order to test the full capability of the phone, I tried a couple of graphic intensive games like Apex Legends Mobile, COD Mobile and BGMI. All the games ran smoothly at their highest settings (as expected) and I did not notice any major lags or frame drops.

You also get the HyperBoost Gaming engine from OnePlus, which tries to fix any framerate hiccups or stutters.

In addition, OnePlus has implemented the company’s largest vapour chamber for the purpose of cooling the processor. I did not notice any kind of heating issues with the phone, even while playing games on their highest settings.

OnePlus 10T Software and UI

The OnePlus 10T runs on OxygenOS 12 skin which is based on Android 12. OnePlus was known for its refined software experience; however, things have changed now. Inspired from ColorOS, the UI isn’t as impressive as it was earlier.

Now I don’t mean to say that OxygenOS 12 is bad, it’s really good and has a lot of features also. It offers a straightforward and user-friendly experience. You can also customise icons and even third-party icon packs.

OnePlus 10T Software and UI

It is one of the finest Android skins available thanks to the inclusion of features such as the Shelf, which gives users access to specific widgets while using any app; a Dark Mode that can be adjusted on three different levels; and the introduction of Android 12’s customisable Material You colour schemes.

OnePlus has decided to stick with the older notification shade icons from Android 11, which are somewhat smaller than the new icons on Android 12. There’s an always-on display feature that still has some of OnePlus’ old-school charm.

There are a lot of features to look into, but most of them are hidden in the Settings app. I don’t think an average user will be able to spot them. Furthermore, OnePlus promises three major Android updates plus four years of security patches, which is a significant commitment.

OnePlus 10T Audio, Connectivity, Biometrics

The OnePlus 10T packs a stereo speaker setup which offers good sound quality. The audio is crisp and clear, and the volume gets decently loud. Overall, the speakers were great and I had an awesome multimedia experience, be it watching movies or playing games.

Talking about the connectivity, the phone has dual SIM 5G support with 11 5G bands. These include: N1, N3, N5, N8, N20, N28A, N38, N40, N41, N77, N78 5G NSA: N1, N3, N8, N40, N41, N77, and N78. Apart from this, the phone has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and GPS as other connectivity options.

The phone features an in-display fingerprint scanner which works as expected. It unlocks the phone quickly and the accuracy is also good. You can also use the face unlock which works equally good.

Verdict

There is no doubt that the OnePlus 10T is absolutely a powerhouse and is focused on speed. The phone brings a lot of performance upgrades and features over its predecessor. The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 performs fast, and the 150W charging is even faster. I wished the camera could have been a little better.

However, the phone also misses out on a few things like wireless charging, IP rating and the iconic alert slider to keep its price tag under 50K. Now I don’t know how removing the alert slider saves money for the company but anyways, it’s gone.

Overall, the OnePlus 10T is still a great device and is aimed at power users who want flagship performance at a flagship price.
