Tecno Camon 19 Neo Design and Build

Starting with the design, the Tecno Camon 19 Neo really pouches way above its price tag. The phone looks premium and elegant even at a budget price. It comes in a boxy design with curved corners. You get to see a polycarbonate back; and even though it’s plastic, the in-hand feel is great and doesn’t feel cheap.

The backside has a smooth finish with a diamond cut pattern which shifts colour when viewed at different angles. There are two round camera modules on the top left of the back; one of which houses a single lens while the other houses two lenses. You will see the TECNO CAMON branding on the lower side of the phone.

Camon 19 Neo is a big and tall phone, definitely not suitable for one-hand use, but it still feels light in the hands. The power button (which doubles as a fingerprint scanner) and volume rockers are located on the right side, whereas the left side holds the SIM tray.

Camon 19 Neo bottom side

The top side is clean, while the bottom side features a 3.5mm audio jack, Type-C port and speaker grille.

Overall, the Camon 19 Neo shines in the design segment and feels like a premium phone with good build quality.

Tecno Camon 19 Neo Display

Tecno Camon 19 Neo features a 6.8-inch IPS LCD display with an FHD+ resolution. The phone supports a standard refresh rate of 60Hz and a peak brightness of 500 nits. The screen is bright enough for indoor use but takes a hit when used in direct sunlight.

The display is crisp and vibrant. The colours punch out while watching a video on YouTube. The icons as well as text are super clear. Although it doesn’t have an AMOLED display, the IPS LCD has done the job pretty good.

Camon 19 Neo Display quality

You will see thin bezels surrounding the display with a slightly thicker chin at the bottom. The punch hole camera cutout at the top somewhat distracts from a seamless viewing experience. All in all, I think Tecno has done a decent job in the display department; however, I would have appreciated a high refresh rate.

Tecno Camon 19 Neo Camera

Now let’s talk about the camera on the Tecno Camon 19 Neo. You get to see a triple camera setup which includes a 48MP primary lens, a 2MP depth sensor and a QVGA sensor. Selfies can be taken with the 32MP camera on the front.

Tecno Camon 19 Neo Camera

The 48MP main camera is the highlight here. It takes good shots in daylight with ample details and nice colour accuracy. The dedicated 48MP mode adds a little bit of more details in the images.

Camon 19 Neo primary Camera

The low light performance is not good at all. The shots were very grainy and lacked details. However, I switched to the Super Night mode and voila! The images get pretty sharp and detailed.

The other two lenses are just there to add numbers, so better forget about them. Coming to the selfies, the 32MP camera impressed me with good selfie shots. The skin tones looked natural with good amount of details.

The portrait shots were not up to the mark. The edge detection was not good at all for both the primary and selfie camera.

Camon 19 Neo video recording

You can record 2K videos with both the back and front camera. The videos were surprisingly clear and packed with details. However, the audio quality in the videos was not so good. You get to see a Film mode in the camera app, which lets you take some short-form video clips with some added effects.

Tecno Camon 19 Neo Performance and UI

Performance is where is expected more from Tecno. The Tecno Camon 19 Neo packs an Helio G85 chipset which is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GM of storage. The phone can multitask very well, and the RAM management is also good.

Tecno Camon 19 Neo Performance

It can easily handle day-to-day tasks, but the phone suffers to handle graphic-intensive games. I tried a couple of games like COD Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile. COD mobile ran smoothly at LOW graphics and High frame rate settings.

However, things changed when I ran Apex Legends. The gameplay was laggy every now and then, even on the lowest settings. The phone got warm on the backside but not too much.

The phone runs on HiOS 8 skin which is based on Android 12. The UI is simple and straightforward; however, I felt it was a little laggy and jittery. You get to see standard Android 12 features like Digital Wellbeing and some in-house features like Multi-Window, App Twin and Smart Panel.

Camon 19 Neo features

Tecno Camon 19 Neo Battery and Charging

The Tecno Camon 19 Neo packs a big 5000mAh battery which gives a good battery backup. The phone can last for two days for a casual user, while a heavy user can easily get a one day battery backup.

I got about 6-7 hours of screen on time, and my usage included some gaming, taking photos and videos and scrolling through my Instagram feed.

Tecno Camon 19 Neo charger

While the battery life impresses me, the charging speed fails to do so. Tecno Camon 19 Neo comes with 18W fast charging support; however, the phone takes around 2.5 hours to fully charge from 0 to 100 per cent.

Verdict

The Tecno Camon 19 Neo is a good phone under the 15k price segment, if not the best. The phone stands out because of its premium design and looks in the budget category.

Display and battery backup of Camon 19 Neo is good, and the primary camera does a good job as well. While the performance is also decent, I won’t recommend gettings this phone for gaming purpose.

Overall, the phone is a good option under 15K but I feel like there are better options out there in this price range.
