Apple has launched its latest Mac mini with the all-new M6 and M5 Pro chips. The new desktop keeps the small design of the Mac mini but brings a major boost in performance. Apple is focusing heavily on AI, graphics, connectivity and professional workloads.
The M6 model offers up to 4x faster AI performance, up to 2x faster graphics and storage, and 40 percent faster CPU performance compared with the previous generation. The M5 Pro model goes even further for professional users with up to an 18-core CPU, a 20-core GPU and up to 64GB of unified memory.
New Mac Mini Features: M6 Brings a Big AI Upgrade
The new Mac mini with M6 is built for everyday work, creative tasks and on-device AI. The chip has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. Both get two more cores than the previous generation.
The GPU also includes Neural Accelerators in every core. This helps the Mac mini handle AI workloads faster. Apple says the M6 delivers up to 4x faster AI performance and up to 2x faster graphics than the Mac mini with M4.
The M6 also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says it can deliver up to twice the performance of the previous generation. The Mac mini starts with 16GB of unified memory and can be configured with up to 32GB. Memory bandwidth can reach 170GB/s.

Apple says the M6 Mac mini can process LLM prompts up to 13.5 times faster than the M1 Mac mini in LM Studio. It can also deliver up to 2.3x faster spreadsheet calculations in Microsoft Excel compared with the M1 model. Gaming performance with ray tracing can reach up to twice the speed of the M4 model in Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition.
The M6 Mac mini can also run AI tasks directly on the device. Users can run local AI models, apply AI effects to photos and create AI agents for daily tasks.
New Mac Mini Features: M5 Pro Targets Pro Users
Apple has also introduced the Mac mini with M5 Pro. This version is aimed at professionals who need more power for demanding work.
The M5 Pro can have up to an 18-core CPU and a 20-core GPU. Its GPU includes Neural Accelerators and third-generation ray tracing. This makes it suitable for 3D design, video production, visual effects and game development.
The M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory. It also offers up to 307GB/s of memory bandwidth. This allows users to work with large AI models, complex 3D projects, ProRes RAW files and large research datasets.

Apple says the M5 Pro can deliver up to 8.5x faster LLM prompt processing than the M2 Pro Mac mini in LM Studio. It can also provide up to 4.5x faster ray-tracing rendering in Blender and up to 2.1x faster image processing in Affinity compared with the M2 Pro model.
Faster Connectivity and macOS 27
Connectivity is another major upgrade. Both Mac mini models support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5Gb Ethernet. Users can also configure the computer with 10Gb Ethernet.
The M6 model has three Thunderbolt 4 ports. The M5 Pro gets three faster Thunderbolt 5 ports. Apple says Thunderbolt 5 can also connect multiple Mac mini systems to run large AI models on the device.
The new Mac mini will also work with macOS 27. The software brings Apple Intelligence features and Siri AI. Siri AI can use personal context, answer questions and help users complete tasks across apps. Apple is also adding new AI features to apps such as Safari, Shortcuts and Photos.

New Mac Mini : Price And Availability
Apple opened pre-orders for the new Mac mini on August 25. The computers will start arriving to customers and Apple Store locations on September 22.
The Mac mini with M6 starts at $899 (approximately Rs 85,600) in the U.S. The M5 Pro model starts at $1,699 (approximately Rs 1.62 lakh). Education pricing starts at $799 (approximately Rs 76,000) for the M6 model and $1,599 (approximately Rs 1.52 lakh) for the M5 Pro model.
The new Mac mini also uses 50 percent recycled material overall. Its enclosure uses 100 percent recycled aluminum, while its magnets use 100 percent recycled rare earth elements. Apple says the product is part of its wider goal to become carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030.
