Review Summary

Samsung has been making TWS earbuds for as long as I remember using the first TWS earbuds. The 3 years period is long-enough to evolve product line-ups in this fast-paced world. But was Samsung able to provide the best premium TWS earbuds experience? I found out on my journey of using Galaxy Buds2 Pro over a month.

Without further ado, let’s jump into this full review of Samsung’s latest TWS Earbuds in India priced under Rs 20,000.

PROS

  • Great audio quality
  • Solid ANC
  • Compact design
  • IPX7 rating
  • Wireless charging

CONS

  • No multi-device pairing
  • Average battery life

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro Design and Comfort

Sporting a similar design as its predecessor, starting with a charging cradle, the new generation of Samsung earbuds comes with a matte finish as opposed to a glossy surface, which makes it easy to handle and less susceptible to accidental drops. While writing this paragraph, it feels like a Deja Vu, as I felt the same while reviewing the new generation LG Tone Free earbuds. Brands have finally understood that we prefer matte finish compared to glossy surfaces.

Furthermore, the case has two LED indicators one outside and another inside the case, where one tells you about the battery level and the other informs you about connectivity status.

Speaking about the buds, they have the same stem-based design and there was nothing wrong with the originals. I have the purple color unit, and it looks elegant. The better ergonomics design ensures almost no fatigue even for long interval usage. I usually binge-watch new TV shows on the way to my office, it’s a 2 hours metro commute. Which is also the perfect place to test the acclaimed ANC tech on the new Galaxy Buds2 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro App Control, and Battery Life

Samsung has made a very impressive app called Galaxy Wearable, which makes Buds2 Pro feature-rich. You get to enjoy a range of mind-blowing features, some of which are unavailable on any other premium earbuds in the market. The most astounding feature should be the smart ANC, which shifts to ambient mode as soon as it detects you’re trying to have a conversation. And as the conversation ends, it switches back to active noise cancellation. I found it useful and ended up using it a lot of time during my review period.

Galaxy Buds2 Pro App Control,

There are a ton of settings you can go through like 360 audio, customize touch controls, keep neck reminders, turn on gaming mode, and toggle accessibility features. It is a really good companion allowing you to manage the earbuds without any hassle.

Note that battery life is unchanged compared to its predecessor. I am a heavy music listener. So, the promised battery life of 5 hours with ANC and 8 hours without ANC works great for me. Furthermore, the charging cradle helps push the battery life whenever you are on the move.

On a mixed usage (ANC ON & OFF), I was able to get around 18 hours of payback time, which is not far off from the promised 18 hours with ANC and 24 hours without ANC. The only cumbersome part was the wait of charging them when earbuds are completely drained out after a binge-watching session.

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro Audio Quality and ANC

Now, the most important question is; How is the audio quality of Buds2 Pro? Well, that is where things get more interesting. Samsung has somehow managed to improve the audio quality and it’s mind-blowing. Offering balanced sound output, Buds2 Pro offers a great equilibrium of bass and treble. It will satisfy your audio requirements if you’re looking for a balanced audio performance.

And if you are someone who prefers heavy bass, or likes to experiment with equalizer settings, then Galaxy Wearable offers five different preset equalizers built in the app -Bass Boost, Soft, Dynamic, Clear, and Treble Boost. Now if you’re someone who knows their audio frequencies, it allows you to create two custom sound profiles. Unfortunately, there’s no way to create custom frequencies, in case you were wondering.

Speaking about the ANC, Active Noise Cancellation has 3 simple toggles; one to turn on ANC, second to turn off ANC, and third to turn on Ambient sound. The last mode is self-explanatory, it allows you to hear ambient sounds while listening to music, which works fine. While for conversations, Samsung has smartly implemented a Voice Detect mode, which makes it easier to jump into quick conversations without needing to remove earbuds. The convenience comes in the form of auto-ANC, which gets turned on as soon as it detects no sound for the last 10 seconds.

Notably, Samsung has continued its partnership with AKG to tune its earbuds this year as well.

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro Connectivity and Call Quality

Samsung has introduced 6 High-SNR (Signal-To-Noise Ratio) Mics for interference-free call connectivity, 3 on each bud. I felt this is the need of the hour on a TWS these days. Because we have started using earbuds during our commutes, and it especially helps in crowded places. Thus, ensuring that the other party on their end can have a smooth conversation with you.

It is as much about users’ experience and the person you’re interacting with. While this sums up the connectivity section, I want to highlight that Buds2 pro comes with Bluetooth 5.3v, and supports auto-switch between multiple devices.

Verdict

With Buds2 Pro, there’s no denying that Samsung has struck a winning combo of sound quality, comfort, and noise cancellation. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this pair emerge as the best premium TWS earbuds of 2022 when creators and publications start announcing winners of their annual awards. There’s plenty it offers at a price tag of Rs 17,999. I would easily grab them and you should too if you have a budget of around 20K INR. This pair of earbuds could easily beat the likes of Sony, Sennheiser, Jabra, and others in this price segment.
