Realme 10 Pro Plus Review – Game Changer Or Not?

The Realme 10 Pro Plus is launched globally with a starting price of RMB 1699 (approx. Rs 19,500) for 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage. The other two variants cost RMB 1999 (approx. Rs 22,900) and RMB 2299 (approx. Rs 26,400) for 8GB RAM + 256GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, respectively.

Before we talk in detail about the Realme 10 Pro Plus, let’s see what the on-paper specs look like:

Let’s start the Realme 10 Pro Plus review with its design and build quality. The phone looks pretty good at the first look. We have the starlight colour option with us for the review. The back of the phone has a shiny finish with star-like dust particles. It glows with a dazzling effect when light falls on it.

Yes, since it’s a glossy back, it will attract a lot of fingerprint smudges which you have to keep cleaning every now and then. Personally, I don’t like this much of a shiny and glossy finish, but it depends from person to person, so I would leave that to you. You will see two camera modules on the top left which protrudes a little. Due to this, the phone wobbles when kept on a flat surface. Lastly, there’s a subtle Realme branding on the bottom.

However, note that this shiny shimmering back panel is made of plastic. Although it might look premium to some eyes, it’s not when held in hands. The frame is also made of plastic with curved edges and rounded corners that don’t dig into the palms.

Apart from that, the phone is pretty slim with 7.78mm thickness and lightweight too, weighing just about 173 grams. I felt the weight distribution was good and the phone was well-balanced. Talking about ports and button placements, the right side has the volume rockers along with the power button, while the left side is completely clean. The top has a secondary speaker along with a secondary mic. The bottom side houses the type-C port, primary speaker and SIM card slot.

Overall, the phone has a good design and doesn’t feel hefty, even with a big screen and battery. However, Realme has cut some corners by providing the plastic build.

The Realme 10 Pro Plus features a triple camera setup on the back. This includes a 108MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro sensor. Coming over to the front, you see a 16MP camera for taking selfies and making video calls.

Now, if we just talk about the megapixels, Realme has made a big jump from a 50MP camera on the Realme 9 Pro Plus to a 108MP camera on the 10 Pro Plus. But note that the 50MP camera on the 9 Pro Plus came with OIS support which is missing here. Yes, the photos will be somewhat more detailed but not every time.

Talking about the camera quality, the main camera takes good photos in broad daylight. The images were detailed and sharp and the colours looked punchy. The dynamic range was also nice, and the overall pictures turned out nice.

The shots taken in low light were just average. Due to the lack of OIS, there’s a lot of noise that creeps into the pictures.

The 8MP ultra-wide lens takes decent shots with a wide field of view. The shots had good details and clarity, but not as much as the primary lens. Dynamic range was good and the colours were fine.

I don’t know why Realme has put a low-resolution 2MP macro lens here. To be honest, it’s not any good to talk about. You might be able to take some passable shots if there is enough light and your hands are super steady.

The 16MP selfie camera takes good selfies in daylight. The selfies I took were sharp and detailed. The skin tones were not the best, but okay-ish.

The Realme 10 Pro packs a big 5000 mAh battery which is an upgrade from last year’s 9 Pro Plus with 4500 mAh. Talking about battery life, light users can get about two days of battery backup, while heavy users would need to plug in the charger by the end of the day.

I got about six hours of screen on time, which is not bad. My usage involved playing games, taking pictures, scrolling through my Instagram feed, watching videos on YouTube and making some calls. This is pretty much everything you will do in your everyday life.

Again, Realme has impressed me by offering 67W fast charging support. The phone charges from 0 to 100 per cent in less than an hour. A quick charge of 20-25 minutes will juice up the battery to about 50 per cent.

The display is where things get really exciting on the Realme 10 Pro Plus. It features a big FHD+ 6.7 inches curved AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. On top of this, it has a peak brightness of 800 nits.

To be honest, it’s not as bright as other smartphones in this price range as they offer brightness of 1000 nits or more. However, it was still bright enough for both indoor and outdoor usage. You might feel it gets a bit dim under direct sunlight, but the content on the screen is still visible.

What I really love about the phone is its curved AMOLED display. I appreciate Realme for adding a curved display here, which we normally see in phones priced above 40K. It enhances the overall viewing and multimedia consumption experience.

Talking about display quality, it’s clear, crisp and vivid. The blacks are deep, thanks to the super AMOLED display. The viewing angles are also great and I really enjoyed watching videos on YouTube and playing games on it. On top of this, the 120Hz refresh rate makes everything extra smooth and buttery.

I spent some time scrolling through my Instagram and Twitter feeds, and I have to say that my experience was just great. Overall, Reamle has done a fantastic job in the display department and there’s not much to complain about. I just wish that the screen was a little bit more bright.

Realme has not disappointed in the performance department as well. It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset which is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. The day-to-day performance is quite good and I faced no major lags or shutters.

The high refresh rate display helps in making everything smooth. The RAM management was good and the apps stayed in the background for longer than I expected. Talking about RAM, you get the RAM expansion feature which will further add up to 3GB using the internal storage. Well, this doesn’t make any noticeable difference in everyday life.

Moving on, apps opened up quickly, and multitasking was a breeze. I could easily switch between different apps seamlessly. Talking about numbers, I did some benchmark testing and Antutu scores came out somewhere near 5 lakhs which is decent.

Now it was time to play some games on the Realme 10 Pro Plus. I ran some popular titles, including Call of Duty Mobile, Asphalt 9 and New State Mobile. All the games ran well in low to medium settings.

While both CoD Mobile and New State Mobile could run at medium to high settings, I had to lower down the graphic settings for a better playable experience. There were a few frame drops every now and then but after lowering the settings, it got much better. On the other hand, Asphalt 9 ran smoothly without any issues.

The Realme 10 Pro Plus runs on Android 13 out of the box based on ReameUI 4.0, which is really nice to see. Unlike other brands which are still launching phones with Android 12, Realme has taken a step forward.

The Realme 10 Pro Plus packs a stereo speaker setup, one located at the top while the other is at the bottom. The speakers performed pretty well, and the sound output was loud and clear. However, for some reason, Relame has decided to remove the 3.5mm audio jack. Well, this seems like a downgrade from last year and I am quite disappointed with this decision.

The phone comes with 5G connectivity and support for 8 5G bands. These include: N1, N3, N5, N8, N28, N40, N41, and N78. It brings other connectivity options as well, like WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS and NFC.

The phone comes with an optical in-display fingerprint scanner. It was both fast and reliable at unlocking the phone. You can also use the face unlock feature but note that it’s much less secure.
