The Google Pixel 6 Pro is the company’s first clear attempt at a high-end handset capable of competing with the best smartphones available today. Google Pixel 6 Pro Review

The Google Pixel 6 Pro has arrived, yes, finally. and it is a significant step forward for Google. This is a phone that means business, with enhanced cameras, a big 120Hz dynamic display, and the all-new Tensor chip. The new processor allows for faster and more efficient on-device language processing, as well as faster computational photography from Google. Another highlight of the Pixel 6 Pro is its camera arrangement, which is a versatile array that allows you to shoot a wide range of things in a variety of ways. In the previous year, Google has improved its smartphone game, and this next-generation Android flagship is its finest achievement. Let’s begin with the detailed Google Pixel 6 Pro review.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Prices, Variants, Availability

The Google Pixel 6 Pro was launched on October 19, 2021. Pixel 6 Pro is priced at $899 / £849 / AU$1,299 for the 128GB storage option. Other storage options are available, but they are limited to specific colours and will vary depending on the market you purchase the phone in.
The 256GB model is $999/£949/AU$1,449, while the 512GB model is $1,099/AU$1,599. Unfortunately, for our readers from India, the Pixel 6 Pro is not making its way to the Indian market which might be sad. Even the Pixel 5 never launched in India.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Box Contents

Google Pixel 6 Pro comes in a more compact box, now that a charger is no longer included. The box includes the following items apart from the Google Pixel 6 Pro:

  • Google Pixel 6 Pro

  • SIM-eject tool
  • Documentation
  • Quick Transfer Adapter

Google Pixel 6 Pro Design and Build

Google Pixel 6 Pro is the breath of fresh air you’ve been waiting for if you’re tired of the same old design and devices with frankly stale aesthetics. The Pixel 6 Pro is a stunning handset with a curved display, a three-colour glass back which I absolutely love, and a camera bar that runs the length of the phone. Isn’t that too big of a camera module, you guys had to beat Apple in here, man. Sorta Sunny (yellow and gold), Cloudy White (white and grey), and Stormy Black are the colour options for the Pixel 6 Pro (black and grey).

The glass on the front also curves at the corners, as does the display beneath it, giving it a more premium appearance and making it feel like a true flagship smartphone in my hands. So glad I borrowed it from a friend just to feel this premiumness.

If you’re worried about dropping it because of the glass, consider one of Google’s protective cases. The wide camera bar that runs across the back is a unique design choice. It protrudes from the phone by around 3mm, so it doesn’t lay completely flat on a table, but it also doesn’t rock from corner to corner like phones with only one camera hump (like the Galaxy S21 Ultra). The Pixel 5‘s rear-mounted fingerprint scanner has been replaced with an in-screen scanner in Google Pixel 6 Pro; which I found to be accurate and quick the majority of the time.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Display

While the Google Pixel 6 Pro’s display competes well with others in terms of colour saturation and colour accuracy, it falls short in terms of brightness. It has a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate, which means it can go as low as 10Hz to conserve battery life while ramping up to 120Hz for content where it makes sense. This isn’t a must-have feature for many people, but we liked it, and it complements the excellent display quality. If you’re coming from a smartphone with a 60Hz refresh rate, you’ll notice a big difference.

In 2021, we found it to have one of the sharpest displays we’ve seen on a smartphone. Its 512 pixels per inch density is uncommon for a smartphone with a QHD display. Google Pixel 6 Pro isn’t as bad in the sun as prior Pixels, but it’s still no match for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The phone’s screen has an amazing brightness level, and we had no trouble seeing it in bright sunshine. You’ll probably want to change the brightness manually on occasion, but we found that auto-brightness worked fine most of the time.
In reality, the display is excellent for games such as Genshin Impact, PUBG Mobile, and COD Mobile. Movies and videos are also enjoyable to watch. This is without a doubt the best Pixel display I’ve ever seen.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Performance

Tensor, Google’s first home-baked CPU, is at the core of the Google Pixel 6 Pro. It’s a big step for Google to create its own silicon, and it demonstrates the company’s commitment to staying in the hardware game – after all, you don’t design your own CPUs as a one-off experiment. It’s built for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), as shown by computational photography. With Google Tensor, which was co-developed and manufactured by Samsung, you can expect 80% faster CPU performance and 370% better GPU performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G that powered the Google Pixel 5.

However, once you have the Google Pixel 6 Pro in your hands, it performs exactly like any other smartphone. The Android 12 interface is quick to navigate, games like Asphalt 9: Legends and Call of Duty run smoothly, and photo editing and video streaming work just as well as they do on any other high-end smartphone right now. Tensor performs well for a first-generation product. Apple’s A15 Bionic remains far superior, and Google Silicon has a long way to catch up. The MicroSD support is also missing, which isn’t surprising but would have helped with the storage issue. Because the Google Pixel 6 Pro is 5G-ready, you’ll be able to connect to next-generation networks with it, depending on coverage and your plan.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Software

Android 12 is ready and waiting for you on Google Pixel 6 Pro, and it looks really good. This is the most recent and greatest version of Google’s software in its purest form if you want to try it out. This update is especially noticeable here, as opposed to earlier Pixel devices. The Pixel 6 Pro’s stunning display is the ideal showcase for Android 12’s new Material You feature, and it’s one of the phone’s major highlights.

Material You can choose your device’s background, and the colours of that wallpaper will be used to emphasise the menus on your phone. For example, the yellow shade of your wallpaper will appear in your Quick Settings at the top of the phone.

It’s a little gimmicky, but it’s the kind of innovation that lets you tailor your smartphone in unique ways for a more personalised experience. As you’d expect, Android 12 operates smoothly on the Google Pixel 6 Pro. Google has also stated that the phone would receive three full software updates, so you can expect it to be supported thru Android 13, Android 14, and Android 15. It will also receive a minimum of five years of security updates, so consider this to be a safe smartphone experience at least until the end of 2026.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Camera

The wide bar on the back of the Google Pixel 6 Pro conceals three cameras: a 12MP ultrawide, a 48MP telephoto with 4x optical zoom, and the main camera, which has a bigger 1/1.3-inch sensor and captures 2.5x more light than the Pixel 5. Pixel phones have always had amazing cameras, and this new generation is no exception. Google Pixel 6 Pro features a completely redesigned camera system that has been long overdue and highly appreciated. The Google Tensor processor takes advantage of the new camera technology and shooting modes, while all four cameras (three main + one selfie) have newer, larger sensors.

The images taken by the main camera lens of Google Pixel 6 Pro are amazing. They’re vivid, full of detail, and have a superb exposure balance, with bright skies maintained under control and shadowy regions clearly visible. The 50MP main camera, with an f/1.9 aperture and 1.2µm pixels, is the one you’ll probably use the most. It was able to take high-resolution photographs with good detail and true-to-life colours, as we noticed. It’s a capable point-and-shoot camera that we found to provide excellent results in a variety of situations.

Night Sight, which allows you to take good images in low-light situations, is back. This is similar to how the Google Pixel 5 can brighten dark situations, but you’ll need to keep the camera steady for it to work properly. The telephoto camera has a 4x optical zoom capability, and we found that it captured detailed photographs of distant subjects during our testing. For the greatest results, you’ll need to keep the phone steady, but that’s true of all telephoto modes.

The golden colours of the leaves have been brilliantly caught in the sample images that we took of a tree with a bright blue sky in the background. The Pixel 6 Pro handled the images admirably, retaining a nice overall exposure.

Switching to an ultrawide lens retains the image’s rich colours and exposure. When you zoom in, you can see that there is less overall detail, but it’s still a wonderful photo. In comparison to the iPhone 13 Pro, the iPhone has a far wider field of vision, allowing you to capture more of the scene. Both are terrific wide lenses that do a good job at capturing those wonderful colours, although I wish the Pixel offered a slightly wider area.
Google has also tossed in a tool that automatically removes people from the background of an image, which often works well but sometimes leaves a large splotch. And then there is the long exposure mode, which lets you create beautifully blurred waterscapes, and the Nightscape mode, which excels at night photography.

I’m blown away by the Google Pixel 6 Pro’s photography capabilities, and there’s no doubt that it’s one of the best smartphone cameras available right now. Thanks to the 4K resolution, video quality is also exceptional, with a wide dynamic range, excellent image stabilisation, and plenty of detail.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Battery

Google Pixel 6 Pro is the biggest battery we’ve yet seen in a Pixel, with a massive 5,000 mAh capacity. That’s the same size as the Galaxy S21 Ultra but with 500 mAh more battery capacity than the OnePlus 9 Pro. We don’t know how big the iPhone 13 Pro Max‘s battery is in milliamp-hours, but you can’t compare Android and iPhone batteries directly anyhow.
It supports Qi wireless charging and fast charging with a 30W charger (not included in the box) that can charge the phone to 50% in 30 minutes. That’s nice, but not quite up to the 65W fast charging offered by OnePlus, which will fully charge the device in the same amount of time. Still, it’s quick enough to give your smartphone a boost before you go out, and the Extreme Battery Saver mode pauses all but the most essential apps to conserve the remaining battery life.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Audio, Connectivity, Biometrics

Google Pixel 6 Pro sports a standard dual-loudspeaker arrangement with one bottom-firing speaker and the other serving as an in-call speaker. The audio on the Pixel 6 Pro is fairly loud, and it sounds wonderful at full volume. At maximum volume, there is no distortion, however, the mids and trebles may sound tinny when playing music.

Google Pixel 6 Pro now has an in-display fingerprint scanner rather than one on the back of the phone. It’s a little slower than the competition, and it’s picky as to where you put your finger. The Google Tensor SoC is paired with an external Samsung Exynos 5123 modem for 4G and 5G networking capabilities.
