Review Summary

Budget-friendly smartwatches priced at less than Rs 5,000 are doing well in the Indian market. The Dizo Watch R has just been launched, another affordable smartwatch to join the list in India. The circular watch stands out from the crowd thanks to its large 1.3-inch AMOLED screen.

The Dizo Watch R has a number of useful features for less than 4,000, including over 150 different watch faces, 5ATM water resistance, a decent battery life, and the standard set of health-tracking features.

Design and Build

Budget watches often have subpar design and build quality. However, the Dizo Watch R ticks both of them. This watch has the look and feel of a high-end watch because of its sturdy construction. However, it still feels quite light on the hand. The smartwatch features a round dial, which is a common and classic design choice.

Dizo Watch R design

You don’t often find features like the metal casing and scratch-resistant glass display on budget watches like this one. You will find two buttons on the right side of the watch.

All the health sensors are housed on the well-designed backside that doesn’t bulge into the skin like other fitness bands tend to.

The strap is another element I really liked about this watch. It is made of silicone which is highly flexible and it feels very gentle against the skin. Over the course of its use, I slept with it on and went through the day with it on, and it never once caused any sort of irritation.

The only real downside is that the band collects dust and needs to be cleaned every now and then. Besides that, you are free to switch it out for a different band if you wish. Another thing that made me happy was that the watch has a water resistance rating of 5ATM.

Battery and Charging

The Dizo Watch R packs a 280 mAh battery which the company claims to last 12 days on a single charge. Now what I experienced was far from what the company claims.

The watch lasted around 5 days during my usage with continuous heart rate monitoring turned on. Moreover, the watch lasted merely 2 days with AOD turned on. Now, you can turn these features off and can expect a battery life of up to 8-9 days.

However, I hardly believe that you will get 12 days of battery life from Dizo Watch R. Now coming to charging, it comes with a magnetic charger which takes around 1.5 hours to fully charge the watch.

Display

The latest Dizo Watch R stands out due to its 1.3-inch sharp AMOLED display, which has a resolution of 360×360 pixels. On top of that, it comes with a peak brightness of 550 nits. It is easy to read even in the bright daytime sun.

There’s also an ambient light sensor that adjusts the screen’s brightness based on the surrounding light, and it does a good job of doing that. In terms of daily use, I have to say that this display is excellent for a wearable. The texts on the display are sharp and the colours look really punchy with deep blacks.

Additionally, the display has thin bezels, but when you choose a dark watch face, you won’t even notice them. You get the Always On Display feature, and it gives you the option of either a digital or an analogue face. Additionally, you can simply raise your wrist to wake the screen.

A variety of watch faces are available to further personalise the watch. The display supports more than 150 different watch faces and comes with five watch faces that are already installed on the watch itself.

Though there are already over 150 watch faces available, you can customize and make your own watch face on the app.

Fitness and Health Features

The Dizo Watch R has a number of health and fitness tracking features. The smartwatch supports 110+ sports modes, such as indoor run, outdoor running, running, walking, cricket, yoga, indoor cycling, swimming, weight training, and more.

The Dizo Watch R not only records your workouts but also helps you keep track of them on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. You can even set your daily goals.

Though the data isn’t 100 per cent accurate, it’s acceptable for light use and similar to other fitness watches in this price segment. Moreover, the watch can monitor your vitals, including heart rate and blood oxygen levels, while you are training.

Speaking of which, the Dizo Watch R features Heart Rate monitoring, SpO2 monitoring, and sleep tracking. The readings from the heart monitor and my SpO2 monitor seem to be accurate. However, it can’t replace a medical device.

The Dizo watches have very precise sleep tracking, which is one of the company’s strong points. I noticed the same with Dizo Watch 2 (review).

Software and UI

It takes less than a minute to pair the watch and set it up. All you have to do is install the Dizo app on your phone and scan the QR code after turning on the watch. The Dizo app is available e on both Android and iOS platforms.

Note that in order for the app to properly cater to your needs, you will first need to register and then input some basic info about yourself, such as your height and weight. The app’s interface is straightforward and simple to use.

Dizo Watch R UI

The watch interface is mostly the same as that of the Realme smartwatches, with menus and health data widgets that look the same. When put together, these features create a bright, welcoming interface that is simple to navigate and visually appealing. The animations are pretty good for a watch of this price, and you won’t notice much lags in the UI.

The two physical buttons on the right make navigation easier, from which the top one works as a power on/off button while the other works as a shortcut to sports modes.

Apart from this, you get all the app notifications of your phone directly on your watch. The sad part is that you cannot reply to them. Similarly, you get call alerts and get the options to silent/reject them but no option to pick up the call.

Moreover, you will find all the basic features like music control, weather forecast, camera shutter, alarm, stopwatch, and sedentary alert. Female users can also use the Menstrual Cycle tracker.

Verdict

On paper, Dizo Watch R looks like a fantastic smartwatch. It has a round dial and a solid design that gives it a stylish and classy look. Besides its attractive look, it holds all the qualities of a high-end smartwatch, including a vibrant AMOLED display, interchangeable straps, and resistance to water up to 5ATM.

You should be satisfied with the reasonable battery life and the wide variety of fitness modes and health monitors available.

It does not have a speaker, and as a result, there is no support for picking up phone calls via Bluetooth. Overall, you get almost everything done perfectly for the price, making this a good value for money deal.
