OriginOS 6 is finally making its debut in India. Vivo users have been waiting for a fresh update for a while, and now they get to use it in a couple of months. First, it’s dropping in China on October 10, 2025, at Vivo’s Developer Conference. Then, the Vivo and iQOO phones worldwide, including India, will receive it. It will gradually replace the older Funtouch OS.
So, in this space, we are going to explore all its new features. Also, how is it going to be different from the previously known FuntouchOS?

What’s New In OriginOS 6? A Deep Dive into Features

As of now, we have only a few major confirmed features based on Vivo’s teasers and iQOO’s confirmations. This OS will be based on Android 16 and have a refined, AI-centric overhaul. OriginOS 6 focuses on increased fluidity in experience, like smoother swipes and taps. There will be deeper personalisation. and subtle visual evolutions. There is more to it. Let’s discuss them all in detail now.
UI Customisations
The OriginOS 6 makes its way out of the stock Android’s rigidity and offers more than basic theming. Hence, you will be able to make the phone look and feel truly personal. Here are the expected additions:
- Expect a redesigned lock screen with dynamic widgets. There will be modular layouts as well.
- The colour palettes will be mostly transparent with subtle drop shadows for seamless background blending.
- Expect newly added fonts, themes and icon packs.

Animations & Interactions
The phones to have OriginOS 6 will most probably offer 120Hz refresh with fluid animations across the board. You will experience gestural-based interactions with haptic feedback.
These are some of the most desirable qualities of a smartphone in the current times. High-quality interaction capability really does make a phone feel premium, and OriginOS 6 does that gracefully.

Control Centre & Quick Settings
There’s an improvement in access settings, which impacts the speed of using multiple functions. You can find the following tweaks:
- Revamped pull-down menu with resizable titles.
- AI-suggested shortcuts
- Integration with smart home devices for one-tap controls.
AI Enhancements
The interesting part is that Vivo’s AI push could rival Google Gemini. It offers competitive smart features.
- Evolved AI assistant for predictive text, photo enhancement and battery optimisation.
- Privacy-focused on-device processing for features like real-time translation.
Performance & Battery
Phones having this new OS are supposedly going to have a longer battery life, no matter what ‘mAh’ value it offers. The OS also promises faster app launches, which is an important trait in mid-range phones to premium phones. All in all, you can expect:
- Optimised for Android 16’s efficiency gains.
- Adaptive refresh rates.
- Eco-modes that learn from usage patterns.
Ecosystem Integration
Vivo’s ecosystem will get a boost with the OriginOS 6 update as the connectivity improves in Vivo’s wearables, tablets, and PCs. One can share files faster than ever between multiple Vivo/iQOO devices.
These features build on OriginOS 5’s foundation but address the feedback received globally. There is less bloat, more intuitiveness, and Android 16’s native privacy tools. If you are coming from Funtouch OS 15, expect a noticeable leap in polish. Think iOS fluidity meets Android freedom. However, if heavy customisation overwhelms you, the learning curve might not justify the switch.

What’s The Confusion Between OriginOS & FuntouchOS?
There has been a lot of confusion about the two OS systems. Yes, they aren’t the same, or one did not revamp into another. Yet they both belong to Vivo. While we step into the new era of OriginOS as Indian users, let’s understand the journey.
OriginOS has always been a part of Vivo’s Chinese-market devices exclusively. Hence, OriginOS 1, OriginOS 2, OriginOS 3, and so on were only available in China.
In India, we have only had Funtouch OS, which continued to evolve separately (e.g., Funtouch OS 12, 13, 14). And they have always had fewer customisations and features compared to OriginOS. Finally, the upcoming OriginOS 6 has a global expansion, also replacing the FuntouchOS 15 skin in India. This is how its timeline goes:
Year | Version | Key Features |
---|---|---|
2020 | OriginOS 1 | Introduced “Atomic Universe” concept: resizable, recolorable, and rearrangeable UI components. |
2021 | OriginOS 2 | “OriginOS Ocean” with fluid animations and privacy-focused features. |
2022 | OriginOS 3 | Introduced the “Atomic Universe” concept: resizable, recolourable, and rearrangeable UI components. |
2023 | OriginOS 4 | Enhanced cross-device connectivity and gaming modes. |
2024 | OriginOS 5 | Focused on sustainability with eco-mode batteries and refined AI assistants. |
2025 | OriginOS 6 | Integrated early AI tools for photo editing and system optimisation. |
