Tecno Camon 30 5G Design And Build

The Tecno Camon 30 5G sports a unique design with a large circular camera module in the top left corner. I have the Basaltic Black of the Tecno Camon 30 5G for review, which has a minimalist look; however, you can opt for the Uyuni Salt White variant if you want others to grab your attention.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Design

The phone’s wavy pattern reminded me of the Samsung Galaxy S21 series. However, its matte texture is slippery, so I highly recommend using the included case.

Speaking of the case, Tecno has bundled a very premium-quality case that maintains the design and offers a good textured grip. I must admit that even some flagship phones don’t provide such a good case in the box, so kudos to Tecno for providing one.I preferred using the Tecno Camon 30 5G with its included case during my review period, as I enjoyed its enhanced overall look and feel.

Coming back to the design, while the phone looks clean, you do get a couple of things on the back apart from the massive camera module. You will first notice the small red LED in the top left corner, which acts as a notification light.

It basically lights up when you receive a new notification, record a video, or charge the phone. This is a great feature for getting alerts even when the phone is lying face down.

In addition, the phone has an LED flash and Tecno branding at the bottom. Regarding ports and placements, the volume rockers and the power button are on the phone’s right side.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Left

The left side houses the SIM tray, while the secondary speaker grille is at the top.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Camera

This is one department where the Tecno Camon 30 5G shines, especially since it’s a camera-centric phone. It has a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 50-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

During the daytime, the phone takes detailed shots with plenty of detail and accurate colours. I was honestly surprised by the amount of detail and image processing of the device. The colours are consistent, and the details are preserved even when you zoom in.

However, the lack of an ultrawide-angle sensor is a major disappointment, as phones in this price range easily offer one.

Similarly, in low-light photography, the Camon 30 can take amazing photos with proper exposure and details. However, it can sometimes struggle in scenarios with multiple light sources, resulting in overexposed shots. The details also tend to falter in extremely low-light shots.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Selfie Sample

Regarding selfies, you get a 50-megapixel front-facing camera that can take good shots with accurate skin tones and details. When it comes to video recording, you can shoot videos at 1440p at 30 FPS from the primary and selfie cameras. However, stabilisation works only at 1080p at 30FPS.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Battery And Charging

The Tecno Camon 30 5G packs a massive 5,000mAh battery with 70W charging support. Thanks to the power-efficient chipset, it easily lasted me a day, even with intense usage. With moderate usage, which included scrolling through social media apps, taking photos, and watching TV Shows, I could get around 6 to 7 hours of screen time.

Using the 70W charger, I was able to recharge the phone to 100 per cent in just 45 minutes. Most phones in this range offer 30W or 45W charging speeds, so it’s great to see that Tecno provides a superfast charger in the box.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Charger

Overall, I was impressed with the battery life of the Tecno Camon 30 5G. It can easily last a day, and you can top it up within an hour.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Display And Audio

The Tecno Camon 30 5G boasts a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Its peak brightness is 1300 nits, which is great for indoor use but not very bright outdoors.

You get a centre punch hole cutout surrounded by uniform bezels on all sides. The screen offers saturated and punch colours; you can choose between bright and original colours in the settings.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Refresh Rate

With the 120Hz refresh, navigating through the user interface remains smooth and fluid. You can choose between four different modes: 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz and Auto, which can automatically adjust the refresh rate based on the content.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Content Consumption

When it comes to content consumption, I enjoyed watching Season 2 of One Punch Man, and it was a good experience. You get Widevine L1 support and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, which are loud enough to fill the room.

Tecno Camon 30 Display 2

Unfortunately, like other phones in this segment, it lacks a 3.5 mm headphone jack. However, it does have an in-display fingerprint sensor for security, although I found it too small for my large fingers. There is also NFC support and an IR Blaster for controlling your appliances.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Performance

The Tecno Camon 30 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset, which can be paired with up to 12GB of RAM. This processor is also found in cheaper phones like the Moto G54 5G and the Infinix Note 40 Pro.

The phone remained smooth during day-to-day tasks, and I faced no issues. Furthermore, the 12GB of RAM keeps most of the apps in memory, and you also get 12GB of virtual memory support.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Gaming

The phone falls behind the competition for intensive tasks like gaming. You can play BGMI at Smooth and Ultra (40 FPS), while CODM supports High and Max settings (60 FPS). This is disappointing because even phones that cost much less, such as the Vivo T3x 5G, offer better performance with 120 FPS support in CODM.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Benchmarks

Regarding benchmarks, the Tecno Camon 30 5G has a Geekbench score of 914 in the single-core and 2251 in the multi-core test. Furthermore, the phone throttles to 82 per cent in the 15-minute CPU throttling test and has an AnTuTu V10 score of 499032, which is average given the price.

The phone also scored 65199 during the AnTuTu storage test, but unfortunately, it could not run the 3D Mark Wildlife stress test. To sum it up, the Tecno Camon 30 5G has mediocre performance, and you can get much better-performing phones at a cheaper price.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Software And UI

The Tecno Camon 30 5G ships with HiOS 14, which is based on Android 14. The company promises three years of OS updates and security patches, which is good.

The user interface is a blend of HyperOS and Infinix’s HiOS.Like HyperOS, you can get the notification shade by swiping down and the quick settings toggle by swiping right.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Software 2

Furthermore, you can swipe left to get a news feed, widgets, and frequently opened apps similar to OxygenOS. A vertical app drawer shows all the apps and the device has barely any preinstalled apps.

You also get many personalization options to customize your lock screen, fonts, wallpapers, and more. Various special features, like Dynamic Port, show notifications in a pill similar to iPhones. A notification LED light on the back can alert you about incoming calls, charging, and when the Ella AI assistant is enabled.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Software 3

In addition, there is support for Floating Windows, Smart Panels, Game Modes, Smart Hubs, App Twins, and Kids Modes. However, the user interface lacks animations, which feels jarring and reminds you that you are using a budget phone.

Tecno has also included a special voice assistant called Ella, powered by ChatGPT 3.5, who can perform various tasks, from calling your contacts to taking photos and answering all your queries.

Tecno Camon 30 5G Software

Overall, the HiOS 14 offers a refined user interface. It’s good to see the company provide three years of OS updates, which is rare in this price range. Hopefully, Infinix will provide timely software updates and live up to its promise.

Verdict

The Tecno Camon 30 5G is an excellent choice if you want a good camera under Rs.25,000. It has a good display, loudspeakers, a premium design, and a bloatware-free software experience. However, you still need to compromise with the average performance and the lack of an ultrawide-angle sensor.

If a good camera is your top priority, you can opt for the Camon 30. However, there are phones in this segment that offer better software, cameras, and performance, such as the OnePlus Nord CE 4 5G and the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion.
