The Realme GT 6T marks the return of the Realme GT series in India after two years. It is the first phone in the country to use the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset and promises flagship-grade performance.

But is it just another performance-centric smartphone, or does it have something more to offer? Being a Realme GT Neo 3T user, I was curious to review the GT 6T and find out whether the Realme GT series is making a serious comeback. I have been using the Realme GT 6T for a week, and here’s my detailed review of the smartphone.

Realme GT 6T Design And Build

The Realme GT 6T has a typical industry look with a dual camera setup with a shiny frame that goes through it. The phone has a plastic build that resembles a glass-like finish, making it prone to fingerprints and smudges.

I found the design dull and average, as Realme generally offers good phone designs like the Realme 12 Pro Plus with a vegan leather back. I have the Fluid Silver variant, which has a typical industrial design.

The back has a dual camera setup with a dual LED flash next to it. The rest of the phone is clean, apart from the Realme branding at the bottom left corner.

When it comes to in-hand feel, the phone does not feel grippy due to the plastic build. However, Realme has included a premium case inside the box, which offers a good grip and is a welcome addition.

Despite packing a massive 5,500mAh battery, the phone does not feel heavy and weighs only 191 grams. Furthermore, it is only 8.7mm thick and comfortable to hold in the hand.

During the day, the phone takes good shots with plenty of details and saturated colours. It took impressive shots with accurate shadows and exposure even under direct sunlight. For those unaware, this is the same camera sensor found on the cheaper Realme 12 Plus.

The phone takes decent photos with good exposure and shadows in low-light shots. However, it can sometimes struggle with details if you take pictures of trees or objects with hard-to-distinguish features.

    Realme GT 6T Selfie Sample

The 32-megapixel selfie camera can also take good photos with accurate skin tones and details. The primary camera can record 4K video at 60 FPS and 1080p at 60 FPS with OIS enabled. Furthermore, the selfie camera can shoot videos at 1080p at 30 FPS.

Overall, the Realme GT 6T takes decent photos for the price. However, if cameras are your top priority, much better smartphones are available in this range.

Realme GT 6T Battery And Charging

The Realme GT 6T packs a 5,500mAh battery with a 120W charger in the box. Thanks to the 4nm chipset and LTPO display, I could easily last the day with medium to heavy usage. I got around 5 to 6 hours of screen time, which included scrolling through Twitter, watching reels on Instagram, listening to music on Spotify, taking photos, and watching videos on YouTube.

It is great to see Realme offer a 120W GaN charger in the box, as most phones in this segment ship with an 80W or 90W charger. You can enable Smart Rapid Charging in the Settings to get the highest charging speed possible.

    Realme GT 6T Charger

I was impressed with the Realme GT 6T’s battery backup. It could easily last the day with moderate usage, and the 120W charger tops it up within 35 minutes.

Realme GT 6T Display And Audio

The Realme GT 6T boasts a 6.78-inch 1.5K curved AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also offers LTPO support, meaning it can automatically switch the refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120Hz depending on the content. You also get Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection on the front, which is rare in this price range.

On the front, you get a centre punch hole cutout with very slim bezels and curved edges, which gives it a premium look. Moreover, the display’s aspect ratio is wider than that of phones like Realme 12 Pro Plus, making it perfect for content consumption.

Depending on your preferences, you can choose between natural and vibrant colours. I enjoyed watching Season 6 of The Sopranos because I liked the bright and saturated colours.

    Realme GT 6T Display 2

In addition, the Realme GT 6T is the brightest phone in the world, with a peak brightness of a whopping 6000 nits. I reached around 1600 nits of brightness in the HBM (High Brightness Mode) and faced no problems viewing the screen under direct sunlight. The Realme GT 6T is the first phone I have reviewed on which I could easily watch a video in harsh sunlight, and there is also an extra brightness option that can be enabled if you want.

    Realme GT 6T Refresh Rate

Thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate, navigating through the user interface remained smooth and fluid. When set to Auto, the LTPO panel automatically adjusts the refresh rate based on the content. You can also enable 120Hz for each app by going into the settings.

There are stereo speakers for audio, with the primary speaker at the bottom and the secondary speaker in the earpiece. The speakers are decent enough if you are watching alone, although they could have been louder. You also get an IR Blaster to control appliances using the phone, which is a great addition.

    Realme GT 6T Performance

The Realme GT 6T is the first phone in India to use the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset. This 4nm processor uses the same architecture as the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and it is the downclocked version of Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

    Realme GT 6T Processor

If that sounds confusing, here’s a simple explainer: The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is a flagship killer chipset, meaning you can expect a similar performance to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from last year.

The phone remains extremely smooth during daily tasks, with no lags or stutters. Furthermore, the 12GB of RAM and 12GB of virtual memory expansion ensure most apps remain in memory. Thanks to the UFS 4.0 storage, apps open instantaneously as if they are always running in the background. The Realme GT 6T is one of the few phones I have reviewed that offer such smooth app opening and closing animations, resulting in a flagship-like experience.

    Realme GT 6T Gaming

Regarding intensive tasks like gaming, the Realme GT 6T can run multiplayer titles such as BGMI and CODM at 60 FPS, which is disappointing for a gaming-centric phone. However, Realme claims it is working with game developers to optimise the chipset, so hopefully, this will be fixed.

I also tried demanding games like Wreckfest, Hitman Blood Money Reprisal, Warzone Mobile, Diablo Immortal, and Genshin Impact. Most ran at 60 FPS, except Wreckfest and Hitman, which hovered around 100 FPS at the highest settings.

    Realme GT 6T Benchmarks

In benchmarks, the Realme GT 6T has a Geekbench score of 1833 in single-core and 4673 in multi-core tests. Furthermore, the phone had a stability of 55.8 per cent and was throttled to 84 per cent of its peak performance in the 15-minute CPU throttling test.

The Realme GT 6T scored 1505110 in the AnTuTu V10 benchmark and has a storage score of 18448, with speeds consistent with UFS 4.0 type. Overall, the Realme GT 6T offers excellent performance for its price, but further optimisation is required to unlock the chipset’s full gaming potential.

Realme GT 6T Software And UI

The Realme GT 6T ships with Realme UI 5 based on Android 14 out of the box. The company promises three years of OS updates and four years of security patches for the phone.

However, dark patterns are still present during setup, apart from preinstalled apps such as Snapchat, Fitbit, Finshell Pay, Myntra, and Facebook. Thankfully, you can easily uninstall these apps, and I couldn’t find the infamous Hot Apps and Hot Games folder, so Realme deserves some credit for offering a somewhat cleaner experience.

    Realme GT 6T Quick Settings

Interestingly, the Realme GT 6T ships with redesigned quick settings similar to HyperOS and iOS.You get vertical controls for brightness and volume with the rest of the toggles at the bottom. Realme has not clarified whether other devices running on Realme UI 5 will get this new look with an update or if this is something exclusive to the GT series.

Regarding features, you get Smart Suggestions, which shows notifications in a pill-shaped cutout similar to Dynamic Island on iPhone. Furthermore, you also get Smart Sensing, Air Gestures, Dedicated RAM for games, Split View, Flexible Window and Quick Return.

    Realme GT 6T Preinstalled Apps

Thanks to the UFS 4.0 storage and the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, the app opening and closing animations are really smooth, and I felt like I was using a flagship phone. Kudos to Realme for delivering a refined and fluid software experience.

    Verdict

The Realme GT 6T is a great all-rounder smartphone with blazing-fast performance, a beautiful display, and superfast charging speed. It also has a massive 5,500mAh battery that can last all day and a smooth user experience.

However, you will need to contend with an average ultrawide camera sensor and a plastic build. If cameras and premium design are your priority, consider alternatives like the Realme 12 Pro+ 5G, Motorola Edge 50 Pro and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus.
