OnePlus 13 Design And Build

OnePlus has created a design language for its flagship phones with a large circular camera module and a premium glass back. The OnePlus 13 further evolves this design philosophy with incremental upgrades, shifting the camera module to the right side of the phone with a new line going through it. The OnePlus 13 is available in three attractive: Black, White and Blue, with the Blue one sporting a vegan leather finish.

I have the white variant of the OnePlus 13 for review, and the matte does give it a premium feel. Instead of a curved back panel, the company has opted for a flat side frame apart from a more flatter display. The phone is also lightweight at 220 grams despite having a massive 6,000mAh battery and is just 8.5mm thick, meaning it does not feel bulky in hand.

The company has also retained the iconic alert slider, which is pretty handy for switching to mute and vibrate modes.

IP Rating

Another new addition is the upgraded IP69 rating, a huge boost from the IP65 on the previous models. You also get IR Blaster and NFC apart from Wi-Fi 7 for connectivity.

OnePlus 13 Camera

The OnePlus 13 boasts a triple camera setup on the back in collaboration with Hasselblad. It has a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 sensor with OIS, a 50-megapixel Samsung JN5 ultrawide angle sensor and a 50-megapixel LYT-600 telephoto lens with 3x zoom. On the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie shooter.

OnePlus 13 Camera

The OnePlus 13 manages to take exceptional shots during the day with plenty of detail and saturated colours. The company’s collaboration with Hasselblad is certainly paying off after five generations of camera tuning.

Similarly, the telephoto and ultrawide angle sensors can take good photos with plenty of detail while maintaining a similar colour grading. The new Spectra ISP in the Snapdragon 8 Elite paired with Sony’s flagship camera sensor certainly helps the OnePlus 13 take good shots, and I had fun taking photos with the OnePlus 13 during my review.

The 32-megapixel selfie camera can also take good photos with accurate skin tones and details. The OnePlus 13 can record videos in 8K at 30 FPS from the primary camera and 4K at 30 FPS from the front camera.

OnePlus 13 Battery And Charging

The OnePlus 13 packs a massive 6,000mAh battery, which makes it the largest battery in a OnePlus phone that I have reviewed. The phone can easily last two days on casual usage and 6-7 hours with heavy gaming.

Thanks to the improvements in energy efficiency with the Snapdragon 8 Elite. To top it all up, the OnePlus 13 supports 100W SUPERVOOC charging apart from 50W wireless charging. Furthermore, OnePlus has also introduced magnetic wireless charging, which works similarly to MagSafe on iPhones.

OnePlus 13 Display

The OnePlus 13 boasts a 6.82-inch 1.5K quad-curved AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.OnePlus has ditched the curved sides and opted for a flatter quad-curve panel which is slightly curved from all four sides.

OnePlus 13 Display

While this isn’t completely flat, it is closer to flat than previous OnePlus flagships. For protection, you get Crystal Shield Ceramic glass on the front, but I still recommend using tempered glass.I usually prefer phones with flat screen but the OnePlus 13 definitely impressed me during my review

The company has opted for the BOE X2 screen, the first screen in the world with Display Mate A++ certification. It has a Glove Touch mode for using the phone with gloves, which can be useful in winter.

The OnePlus 13 has a peak brightness of 4500 nits, and it can be easily viewed under bright sunlight. I enjoyed watching content on the OnePlus 13 during my review, thanks to the punchy colours and Widevine L1 certification.

For navigating through the user interface, you get a 120Hz refresh rate which makes everything smooth and fluid. The phone has LTPO support, which means it can dynamically adjust the refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz.

For security, the OnePlus 13 uses an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which is a major upgrade over the optical one found on the OnePlus 12. It is fast and works as advertised.

OnePlus 13 Performance

The OnePlus 13 is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset based on a 3nm processor. It is the most powerful OnePlus phone I have reviewed, and it is evident in all benchmarks. The OnePlus 13 comes with up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.OnePlus 13 Processor

As expected, the phone remains smooth in day-to-day usage, and most of the apps remain in memory. Thanks to the UFS 4.0 storage, apps open pretty quickly, even when you are launching them for the first time.

Gaming

When it comes to gaming, you can easily play games like BGMI and CODM in the highest possible settings. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is the most powerful processor in the world with a clock speed of 4.32GHz, and the Adreno 830 GPU clocked at 1.1GHz.With a massive 9925mm2 vapour cooling chamber, the phone does not heat up even during intense gaming sessions.

In benchmarks, the OnePlus 13 scores the highest in the AnTuTu, with a score of 2.92 million. It has a score of 2986 in single-core and 8779 in multi-core. With these chart-topping scores, the OnePlus 13 certainly won’t disappoint any power users.

OnePlus 13 Software And UI

The OnePlus 13 ships with the latest OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15 out of the box. Moreover, the OnePlus 13 will receive four years of OS updates and five years of security patches in line with the company’s update policy.

OnePlus 13 Software

OnePlus has brought some major improvements to OxygenOS, such as smoother animations, less space taken by system apps, and a redesigned notification centre that splits notifications and toggles into two separate panels.

OnePlus has implemented something called Parallax processing, meaning the OS can simultaneously perform app opening and closing animations of two apps at the same time. I really enjoyed the fluid animations during my review of the OnePlus 13

UI And Lockscreen

Other changes in the OnePlus 13 include new cards in the Shelf Widget, Split mode for better multi-tasking, lock screen customization and OnePlus share for transferring files between iOS and OnePlus devices.

Furthermore, the company has also brought the Open Canvas multi-tasking feature from the OnePlus Open on slab phones. In terms of AI features, you get AI Detail and Unblur, AI Reflection Eraser, Global Search and Circle To Search, Pass Scan, AI Notes, AI Reply and more.

Verdict

The OnePlus 13 is a complete package that manages to wow users on all fronts. You get an improved micro quad curved display, faster processor, bigger battery and improved cameras. There is also Magnetic Wireless charging support, and the company has retained the iconic alert slider found in previous models.

The only challenge that remains is the company’s reputation, which has been affected by issues like the green line and motherboard failure on previous models that have deterred the faith and trust OnePlus users had in the company. However, the OnePlus 13 might prove to be a turning point, luring those who want a flagship phone without spending flagship-grade money.
