Apple iPhone 14 Pro Camera
The Apple iPhone 14 Pro camera still captures wonderful shots without compromising on any details. The 48MP main camera takes one of the best photos I have captured using a smartphone.
While it doesn’t differentiate much from the naked eye when compared to the iPhone 13/14/13 Pro, it is slightly better in some aspects like sharpness, colours, detailing and dynamic range. The daylight shots of the cafe looked vibrant and punchy. The colours were close to natural and the dynamic range was pretty good.
Even the ultrawide shot retained the colours and detailing compared to the normal shot. The 3x shot was fabulous and sharp without compromising on details.
Even the low-light shots were pretty good. There was the usual light flair issue sometimes, which is very common with iPhones. Apart from that, the shadows part like the scooty was crushed and the details were not very good in that part.
Indoor shots were great when there was ample lighting. Detail, colours, sharpness, everything was superb.
Portrait shots were the best. The background blur was very good and the edge detection was on point.
The selfies were also clear and sharp. The skin tone was pretty natural. Selfies were crisp with good details, and I could see my facial hair clearly. All in all, the iPhone 14 Pro shines bright when it comes to camera performance.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Battery and Charging
Apple iPhone 14 Pro delivered a fantastic battery backup when it was new. But is it the same after a year? A one-shot answer – No. Well, it’s normal for a phone to offer less battery life with time. However, with the latest iOS 17 update, this process took a faster pace.
The battery health has remained around 90 per cent after 14 months which is decent. However, the screen on time has decreased drastically from 6-7 hours of screen on time to hardly 5 hours.
Moreover, the phone tends to heat when it’s charging, although it’s much lesser now with the latest 17.2 update.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Display
Coming over to display, the iPhone 14 Pro doesn’t disappoint at all. In fact, it has one of the best displays on an iPhone. You get the dynamic island, 120Hz refresh rate and always-on display, which are also the features introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro.
The display still looks and feels great, whether you are browsing the web, scrolling through Instagram or playing games. The true tone works absolutely fine, along with the face ID. I must say that the dynamic island is cool to have.
While it doesn’t serve much practical use, there are still some small integrations with iPhone apps like Apple Music and Clock. When you minimise a supported app, it just wraps around the notch for quick access along with some info to display.
Finally, there’s always-on display. I hope Apple brings some customisation options for AOD in future. The all-new standby mode is a really cool feature to have. It automatically kicks in when you charge your phone wirelessly and place it horizontally.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Performance
Apple iPhone 14 Pro comes with an Apple A16 Bionic chipset, which is undoubtedly a beast when it comes to performance. Be it one year old or two, it still does and will run day-to-day tasks with ease, if not more.
I face no issues in my daily usage. Hours of Instagram scrolling and BGMI sessions, and there was still no sign of lag or shutter. iPhones are really one of the best when it comes to performance, and the 14 Pro is no different.
If we talk specifically about gaming, it can run Genshin Impact and BGMI at max settings. I plated BGMI for a couple of hours and faced no performance drop. Well, it does tend to get warm on the backside, but nothing alarming.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Software and UI
Apple iPhone 14 Pro came on iOS 16, but I have updated it to the latest iOS 17.2. The new update brings a bunch of features and bug fixes that we all were waiting for.
For starters, the heating issue is very much resolved now. On the other hand, some things, like battery backup, aren’t like how they were on iOS 16. Maybe it’ll get better in the next update.
Moving on to the new feature. Kicking with the all-new Journal app, where you can write a journal on a daily basis and add images/videos and more things.
The next big thing is the Name Drop feature. Just touch the top side of two iOS 17 iPhones with each other, and voila! Your contacts are exchanged without doing anything. The same goes for AirDrop. Bring your phones closer and share files seamlessly.
There are a few other minor updates in the keyboard, maps, and some features like auto-delete OPTs and live voicemail.
All in all, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro shines in every department and manages to justify its price tag. Be it the camera or everyday performance, there’s no match for it. The battery backup is decent, and I hope the future update solves the battery-draining issue.
Talking about updates, the iOS 17 update is great, and I really like the new features. Summing up, the iPhone 14 Pro is still a great device, and you can definitely go for it in 2024.
