League of Legends is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game that has been doing the rounds on PC since 2010. It’s one of the most successful online games of all time, with millions of players worldwide tuning into the game. As is the case with popular online gaming franchises, League of Legends will be ported to smartphones. However, the game won’t be a direct port of the PC counterpart. In fact, the developers, Riot Games, have stated that they’re rebuilding the game and its basics to suit the mobile platform. This mobile version of the game is called League of Legends: Wild Rift. If you’re a fan of MOBA games and have been a fan of League of Legends, this article is essential for you. We’ll discuss everything you need to know about League of Legends: Wild Rift!
What is the game about?
League of Legends: Wild Rift follows the tried and tested MOBA pattern. It’s a multiplayer game where 10 players play against each other in teams of five. Each player has a specific role to play and can choose their character accordingly. The game’s objective is to destroy the “nexus” of the opponent team, planted on the opponents’ home base. This sounds simple but isn’t. There are plenty of nuances and gameplay mechanics that one has to know before diving into the meat of the game. All of the players will start at Level 1. As they play and the rounds progress, they’ll be able to upgrade their characters according to their playstyles. This keeps the game balanced and focused primarily on skillsets.
Additionally, players can earn gold by killing their enemies. Levelling up isn’t easy, but results in better abilities and an increase in stats. The gold you earn through combat can then be used to buy items to customise your character. The sheer depth of League of Legends can often be offputting to new players. However, Riot Games has promised that the mobile version, will have more balanced gameplay to assist the beginners.

What are the minimum requirements for League of Legends: Wild Rift?
Even though this is an upcoming mobile game, MOBAs don’t tend to be particularly taxing on the smartphone. Take Pokemon Unite, for example. The game looks great but doesn’t seem to push the hardware limitations of your smartphone unless the smartphone is quite old. League of Legends: Wild Rift will follow a similar formula to keep the game accessible to as many people as possible. With that being said, let’s look at the system requirements for League of Legends: Wild Rift.
Android
- CPU – Quad-core, 1.5GHz or above
- RAM – 2GB or more
- Resolution – 1280×720
- OS – 4.4 or newer
iOS
- iPhone 6 Plus or newer
- OS – iOS 9 or newer

What is the League of Legends: Wild Rift release date?
The initial release date for League of Legends: Wild Rift was supposed to be sometime in 2020. However, the onset of the global pandemic resulted in the studio facing multiple delays and missing deadlines. Currently, work is ongoing for the game. The game is currently in beta testing, with users from Europe and the Middle East able to access the game. Other regions such as Russia and North Africa are also getting the opportunity to try out the game. Unfortunately, the release date for the game hasn’t been announced yet.
However, people could access the game through VPN (Virtual Private Network) apps. Riot Games has since monitored and blocked access to the game through VPNs. This means that we will have to wait until the game is officially launched in India.

What about microtransactions?
It’s no surprise now when you hear about a free game and its microtransactions. After all, microtransactions have become the most significant revenue model for most developers and publishers. While sometimes it can be problematic, such as in the NBA 2K series, microtransactions can be acceptable in other games, like the FIFA series. Since the PC version of League of Legends has microtransactions, League of Legends: Wild Rift will also feature microtransactions.
The game also has a Battle Pass, called the Wild Pass. While the Indian pricing for the Wild Pass hasn’t been announced yet, the Wild Pass costs $6 elsewhere. This would roughly put the Indian pricing at around Rs 466. There’s a good chance that the Battle Passes will also have special tiers. You can also use in-game currencies such as Blue Motes and Poro Coins to purchase cosmetic items for your champion(s).
