Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro Specs at a glance

Before we talk more about the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, let’s see what on-paper specs look like:

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5
  • Supported OS: Android and iOS
  • Battery: 472 mAh (case); 61 mAh (earbuds)
  • Weight: 57.5 grams (earbuds with case)

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro Design and Comfort

The all-new Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro have a design that is similar to that of its predecessor, the Galaxy Buds Plus, but the housing is more identical to that of the Galaxy Buds Live; it is square and has a hinge on one of its sides. The case is compact, well-built and sturdy. The earbuds fit in neatly and are held in place by magnets.

Talking about the case, it looks like a small treasure box and has LED lights on both the inside and outside. This LED turns green, yellow, or red based on the battery level left inside the case.

These earbuds are more elegant and stylish than the previous models of Samsung, as well as the Apple AirPods Pro (review). They don’t bulge out. The glossy, shiny finish on the buds gives them a neat shine that gives them a premium look even though it acts as a fingerprint magnet.

The Galaxy Buds Pro come with three different sizes of silicone eartips, making it easy for you to find the right fit. The Galaxy Buds Pro provides a good seal around and fits snugly in the ears, allowing you to fully enjoy your music once you’ve got them in place.

Overall, it’s surprising how comfortable they are to wear for long periods of time. Additionally, you don’t have to worry about sweat or water getting in the way of your workouts since the Buds Pro comes with an IPX7 rating.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro Audio Quality

The sound quality of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro can simply be described as excellent. There is a noticeable boost in the bass range and a peak in the high range, but other than that, everything sounds about the way it should.

The Galaxy Buds can get incredibly loud, so it’s better not to listen to music at 100 per cent volume for long periods of time. When it comes to sound quality, these are the best-sounding Samsung earbuds I have ever tested.

Samsung uses the Scalable Codec to scale up the sound quality on Galaxy smartphones; however, not to be disappointed, non-Samsung users will still get good music quality if not the best.

The good news is that the Samsung Wearable app enables you to tweak the sound even if you’re the type of person who likes to fiddle with the equalisation settings on their headphones.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro ANC

The ANC performance of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro is significantly better than that of its predecessor. There are three built-in microphones that help the Galaxy Bud Pro cut out the noise better than the Galaxy Bud Live. However, they do not even come close to the best ANC earbuds, Sony WF-1000XM4 (review) or any other flagship earbuds.

The call quality was quite good and the other person on the call could hear me clearly. It packs an embedded microphone, so there is still some muffling sound, but it’s not as poor as other earbuds on the market.

Overall, the Galaxy Buds Pro has a very decent mic quality for a pair of wireless earbuds.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro Battery and Charging

The case of Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro holds a battery capacity of 472 mAh, while the battery capacity of each individual bud is 61 mAh. The battery life of the Galaxy Buds Pro is decent for a typical active noise-cancelling earbuds; but it’s a big drop from the Galaxy Buds Plus, which could play music for straight 11 hours on a single charge.

Samsung claims the battery life of 5 hours with ANC on; similar to what the AirPods Pro delivers (4.5 hours), which is quite disappointing. The case adds additional 13 hours to the battery life if the ANC is on.

If you turn ANC off, the earbuds can last for seven to eight hours, and the case can provide up to 20 hours of battery life. The good news is that Galaxy Buds Pro comes with wireless charging support; however, it is much slower than wired charging via the Type-C port.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro Features and Connectivity

The Galaxy Buds Pro come pre-loaded with a number of controls that can be accessed by tapping and holding on the capacitive surface of each earbud. You have the ability to play, pause, skip the tracks, answer/reject the calls and cycle through the different noise-cancellation modes.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro even offers a little something extra, known as 360 Audio, for users of Samsung smartphones. It’s pretty similar to the spatial sound found on Apple AirPods Max or the surround sound feature found in gaming headsets. 360 Audio uses Dolby Atmos to create a virtual environment that tracks your head movements and adjusts the sound accordingly.

As soon as you take out one of your earbuds, the music will stop playing and the Ambient Sound mode will turn on. Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro packs a few Samsung-exclusive features that are worth mentioning. These include a hands-free Bixby mode that operates exactly how you’d expect it to, as well as a Find My Earbuds feature.

The Galaxy Buds Pro make use of Bluetooth 5.0 for its wireless connectivity. It was very easy to pair the earbuds with other devices; both my Macbook and my Android phones were able to recognise them right away while maintaining a consistent wireless connectivity.

In addition to Bixby, the buds can also be used with Google Assistant or Siri to provide hands-free virtual assistance. Finally, the Buds Pro’s Auto Switch feature allows you to seamlessly switch between your Galaxy devices if you have more than one.

Verdict

The Galaxy Buds Pro from Samsung is the best truly wireless earbuds the company has offered so far. They meet most of the expectations, and the style is perfect for everyday life. For the price of Rs. 7,990, you get a snug fit, nice, punchy sound quality, and active noise cancellation that does a pretty good job.

These earbuds from Samsung are really good, and the price is significantly lower than that of its competitors. But their battery life isn’t very long. They may need to be charged quite often if you listen to music all the time.

Overall, if you’re looking for a pair of true wireless earbuds with active noise-cancellation for less than 8k, the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro are a great option.
