    Specs at a glance

Before we talk more about the boAt Flash Edition, let’s see what on-paper specs look like:

    • Display: 1.3 Inch LCD
    • Connectivity: Bluetooth
    • Supported OS: Android & iOS
    • Battery: 200 mAh
    • Weight: 52 grams

    Design and Build

Let’s start off with the design. I really like the stylish and sporty look of the boAt Flash Edition watch which gives it a premium feel. The round dial protrudes a bit above the display which protects it from any accidental drops and scratches.

The casing of the watch is built of metal which makes it sturdy and durable. Even with a metal casing, the watch feels light on the hand with a weight of 52 grams. Overall, the watch offers solid built quality for the price.

I have the black strap variant with me but there are two more options for you: blue and red. The straps of the watch are made of high-quality silicone material and feel pretty durable as well. It was comfortable on my hands and did not irritate my skin.

On top of that, there are many holes in the strap which gives two advantages. Firstly, you can find the best fit for your wrist and secondly, it makes the air pass through and make it breathable for the skin.

You will find a crown button on the right side of the watch. This will let you power on and off the watch along with a back function while using the UI. The back of the watch has a carbon fibre finish and holds all the sensors with magnetic charging pins.

    boAt Flash IP68 rating

The boAt Flash Edition comes with an IP68 rating which makes it dust, water and sweat resistant to some extent. It can be submerged under water for up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. However, it is not advised to wear the watch while swimming.

    Battery and Charging

The boAt Flash Edition packs a 200 mAh battery which delivers a decent battery backup. The company claims that the watch can deliver 7 days of battery life with continuous heart rate monitoring on and around 9 days with continuous heart rate monitoring off.

    boAt Flash battery life

I’ll be honest with you, I used the watch for a couple of days and I can confirm the company claims. The watch can easily survive a week on a single charge with casual use.

The watch comes along with a magnetic cable in the box. You simply have to align it with the charging pins on the back of the watch and it starts charging. It takes around 2 hours to fully charge the watch from 0 to 100 per cent.

    Display

The boAt Flash Edition comes with a round 1.3-inch LCD touchscreen display. The display quality is good and easy to read. Colour reproduction was also nice with good viewing angles. Talking about the navigation, the touch response was also good.

    boAt Flash display

The display gets fairly bright and you get 5 levels of brightness in the settings. I did not face any issues while using the watch outdoors in broad sunlight. There is no always-on-display here, as expected. But you can use the raise to wake feature which works well.

You get to see 8 watch faces on the smartwatch which you can select as per your liking. Not only this, but you also get more watch faces on the app that you can customize according to your taste.

Overall, the screen is large and bright, making it easy to read notifications and navigate the interface.

    Fitness and Health Features

In terms of health and fitness, the boAt Flash Edition offers 10 different sports modes. This includes Running, Walking, Cycling, Yoga, Climbing, Skipping, Football, Badminton, Basketball, and Swimming.

    boAt Flash fitness features

The recorded data is very comparable to that which is provided by other fitness bands and smartwatches available in the similar price range. However, the accuracy of the step counter seems to be a little off track.

    boAt Flash data

The boAt Flash watch comes equipped with a heart rate monitor that offers continuous monitoring. The data seems to be fairly accurate. The heart rate data is displayed on the watch and you can also see it on the boAt wearable app.

    boAt Flash health features

It also features an SPO2 sensor that can detect the percentage of oxygen in your blood. Monitoring blood oxygen levels can be useful during intense workouts. However, the readings can never be compared to the certified medical devices.

When it comes to monitoring sleep, the boAt Flash Edition performs as expected. It records different stages of sleep: deep, light, and awake time and the information is displayed in the app and on the watch

It also has a meditation mode that comes in handy for people who have anxiety issues. On top of that, this smartwatch has a sedentary reminder as well as a water consumption reminder.

    Software and UI

Now let’s talk about the user interface of boAt Flash Edition. The user interface of this watch is extremely appealing to my eyes due to its overall clean and fresh look. However, you might see some minor lag in the animation.

In order to use all the features of the watch, you would need to download and install the Boat Wearable app. It is available for both Android and iOS devices. You simply have to install the app on your phone and follow the instructions.

    Boat Wearable app

Your daily activities, sleep patterns, and heart rate readings are all displayed on the app’s main screen. The settings menu lets you customise a number of aspects of your smartwatch, from the watch face to the alarm and notification settings to the reminders to get up and drink water. All in all, the app’s user interface is quite good.

You will get all the text notifications of your Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook accounts on your watch but you can’t reply to them. You will also get the call alert on your watch however you only get the option to reject it.

    boAt Flash UI

The interface is simple and straightforward, requiring only a swipe to the right of the display for a list of recent notifications. Just swipe down and you’ll get instant access to the battery percentage, flash feature, screen brightness settings, and sleep mode.

Swiping up will bring up a number of features related to health and fitness, including Heart Rate, SpO2, Sleep data with weather info and music control.

Also, it has standard features like a DND, stopwatch, and a “find my phone” feature.

    Verdict

The boAt Flash Edition watch is a great option for the price. The watch offers great built quality with a nice display. It brings a lot to the table regarding features like heart rate sensor, SpO2 sensor, IP68 rating, camera/music control, and good battery life.

The watch offers 10 sports modes which might be enough for a guy like me but not enough for a fitness-orientated person. Other than this, the lack of in-built GPS was a bit letdown. However, considering the price of the watch, we can’t complain much about it.

All in all, the boAt Flash Edition watch is definitely a good buy if you are looking for a casual budget smartwatch with a stylish look.
