Oppo Find N3 Flip Long-Term Review: Finding Its Own Place

The Oppo Find N3 Flip is available in a single variant in India with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It retails for a price of Rs.94,999 on Flipkart and is available in Cream Gold and Sleek Black colours.

The phone can be purchased via Flipkart, Oppo India website and leading retail stores.

Before we talk in detail about the device, let’s see what the on-paper specs look like:

The Oppo Find N3 Flip retains its predecessor’s clamshell form factor. It is pretty slim and lightweight, weighing around 198 grams. Furthermore, the phone is just 7.8mm when unfolded and 16.5mm when folded.

Thanks to its compact nature, you won’t feel the phone is lying in your pocket most of the time. Even when folded, the phone does not feel bulky or heavy in the hand.

On the back, you get a large cover display alongside a tiny circular camera module that houses the triple camera setup with Hasselblad branding. This is a significant change from the vertical dual camera setup on the N2 Flip.

Another upgrade is the IPX4 rating, which means the phone is protected against 360-degree low-pressure jets like rain, although it won’t survive when immersed underwater. The aluminium frame on the side is thinner than before, and you get an alert slider for the first time on a flip phone.

Oppo claims the Flexion Hinge is now more durable and can last over 600,000 folds, translating to 16 years of usage if you fold the phone 100 times daily. Thanks to the hinge, you can keep the phone in unique positions, like tent mode for selfies or camcorder mode for recording videos.

I have the Cream Gold variant, which looks flashy. It has a wavy pattern on the hinge and the bottom half of the phone. You also get a premium silicon case with a snug fit for the top and bottom half of the phone.

Coming to ports and placements, the power and volume buttons are on the right.

Moreover, the alert slider is on the left, which feels tactile and clicky.

In addition, there is a secondary speaker at the top, while at the bottom, you will be greeted by the USB-C port, speaker grille, and SIM tray.

The Oppo Find N3 Flip boasts a triple camera setup with Hasselblad branding on the back. It has a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 32-megapixel telephoto with 3x zoom, and a 48-megapixel ultrawide-angle lens.

On the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie shooter. The Oppo Find N3 Flip is the first flip-style foldable to offer a telephoto lens.

During the day, the phone takes superb shots with the Sony IMX 980 primary lens with saturated and punchy colours. I preferred the vibrant setting, as it offered social media-ready photos.

Similarly, the Sony IMX709 telephoto lens can take some good shots with amazing details; however, it offers only 2x optical zoom. There is also 5x zoom support via in-sensor zoom, and the output remains impressive.

The 48-megapixel ultrawide angle lens takes 12-megapixel shots by default, and its photos are crisp. You get the same level of colour science consistency across all three lenses, which is something very few phones offer.

The low-light photos are excellent, although the primary sensor sometimes struggles with light sources. You get a wide dynamic range and realistic colours.

Thanks to the outer cover screen, you can also use the rear cameras as selfie shooters. Furthermore, you get a 32-megapixel front-facing camera on the inner screen that takes great photos with accurate skin tones.

Regarding video recording, all cameras offer 4K at 30 FPS, which is fantastic. There is also always an EIS for stabilisation. Overall, the Oppo Find N3 Flip offers a fantastic camera experience on a flip phone.

The Oppo Find N3 Flip packs a 4,300mAh battery with 44W wired charging support although you get an 80W charger in the box. Furthermore, the charger is included in the box, which is excellent as most manufacturers don’t provide one.

During my usage, which included scrolling through social media apps, taking photos, playing casual games and listening to music on Spotify, I could get around 5 to 6 hours of battery life. The Oppo Find N3 Flip has the largest battery on a flip phone, which is evident in the results.

You can expect a great battery backup thanks to the LTPO panels and the efficient 4nm processor. Moreover, you can expect the phone to fully charge in 51 minutes, again the fastest charging speed on a flip phone.

However, there is no wireless charging support, which is a bummer. Thankfully, you won’t face any battery anxiety issues when using the Find N3 Flip, as the phone can easily last a day.

The Oppo Find N3 Flip features a 6.8-inch foldable AMOLED panel on the inside with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 2520 x 1080 pixels resolution. Furthermore, this Full-HD+ display has a Schott UTG Glass for protection and a peak brightness of 1200 nits.

A punch hole cutout on the top houses the selfie camera and sizeable bezels surrounding the screen. Furthermore, the crease in the middle of the phone is barely noticeable.

The screen is bright enough for daily usage, and I did not face any legibility issues, even under bright sunlight. Despite being a foldable screen, the crease is almost non-existent thanks to Oppo’s unique hinge design, which folds the phone fully flat.

However, you can still feel the crease when browsing social media apps or scrolling through pages. Compared to other flip phones, the crease is not prominent, and you can get used to it.

When it comes to watching content, the Find N3 Flip is one of the few phones on the market to boast a 21:9 aspect ratio. This unique aspect ratio provides a cinematic experience when watching videos, meaning you don’t get black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Furthermore, I enjoyed watching Extraction 2 on the screen thanks to the saturated and punchy colours. I also did not notice the screen during the two-hour movie runtime. The stereo speaker setup is loud enough to fill an entire room and does not distort at the highest volume.

The 120Hz refresh rate makes navigation through the user interface smooth and fluid. You also get LTPO support, which adjusts the refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on the content. In addition, the Nature Tone feature can adjust the screen’s screen’s temperature based on the environment, similar to True Tone on iPhones.

Moving to the outer display, you get a 3.26-inch AMOLED cover screen outside with a 60Hz refresh rate. Moreover, this cover screen has a 382 x 720 pixels resolution and a peak brightness of 900 nits.

Oppo has upgraded the cover screen protection to Gorilla Glass Victus from Gorilla Glass 5 on the N2 Flip. However, the rest of this display’s specifications remain the same as those of its predecessor.

In contrast to the wide-cover display found on the Z Flip 5, Oppo is sticking to the tall aspect ratio on the N3 Flip. This makes it convenient for one-handed usage, although it certainly won’t offer much screen real estate like its competitor.

There are plenty of “mini-apps” that you can run on the phone, including Gmail, Spotify, Notes, Weather, and more. Unfortunately, Oppo still does not allow you to run any app you wish on the cover screen, which is disappointing.

Plenty of Always-On Display options are available, including cute pets like Panda, Rabbit, and Tiger. These pets perform a different action each time you tap on the screen.

You can also access the quick settings toggle and notifications on the cover screen. However, you must first unlock the phone with the side-mounted fingerprint scanner to access them. This fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate, and I faced no issues.

Oppo does not allow you to rearrange the quick toggles or replace them with something else, so you are stuck with the ones you get. You can also not change the Wi-Fi network from the cover screen, as you only get the option to toggle it on or off.

When you tap on a notification, you can choose from the list of pre-defined quick replies to answer it. There are also various widgets such as Camera, Events, Recorder, Wireless Earphones, and Timer. Furthermore, you can enjoy mini-games on the screen if you get bored during your daily commute. You also get a side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the phone’s right side, which remains fast and accurate.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset powers the Oppo Find N3 Flip, paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. It is one of the few phones to use this 4nm chipset based on the TSMC node.

The Dimensity 9200 arrived last year as a competitor to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and brings features like Variable Rate shading. When it comes to day-to-day tasks, the phone remains fast and snappy.

Thanks to the blazing-fast UFS 4.0 storage, I opened most apps instantly without any issues. Moreover, the 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 8GB of virtual memory ensured they remained open in the background.

During intensive tasks like gaming, the Find N3 Flip can run BGMI at 60 FPS and CODM at 120 FPS. The flagship chipset is capable of running BGMI at 90 FPS, but this is more of an optimisation issue as developers generally prefer to optimise their titles for Snapdragon chipsets.

Due to the foldable form factor, the phone got warm during my gameplay sessions but did not feel uncomfortable to touch. It tends to throttle itself when it becomes hot, so you don’t have to worry about rising temperatures.

I also tried more demanding titles, such as Call of Duty Warzone Mobile, Wreckfest, Hitman Blood Money Reprisal, Diablo Immortal, and Genshin Impact. Except for Warzone and Genshin Impact, most ran at 60 FPS at the highest settings.

Moving on benchmarks, the Find N3 Flip has a Geekbench score of 1416 in single-core and 3448 in multi-core tests. Furthermore, the phone has an AnTuTu V10 score of 901329 and a storage test score of 140493.

In addition, the Find N3 Flip achieves 50 per cent stability in the 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test and 67 per cent in the 15-minute CPU throttling test. Overall, the Find N3 Flip is a great performer, but given its foldable form factor, it is not a gaming phone by any means.

The Oppo Find N3 Flip ships with Android 13 and has received the ColourOS 14 update based on Android 14. Oppo promises four years of updates and five years of security patches for its flagship phones, which is excellent.

This means the phone will receive updates until Android 17, so you don’t have to worry about using it in the long term. Furthermore, the ColorOS 14 update brings plenty of features, such as a file dock and content extraction from images, apart from Battery Health features to stop charging at 80 per cent.

You also get new live wallpapers featuring cute pets like Panda, Rabbit and Tiger. However, Oppo still needs to improve the functionality of the cover screen, which I was hoping for with the update.

The number of mini-apps you can run on the cover screen is still limited, and most of the foldable features found on Android 13 are still present. These include changing the cover screen style, pre-defined quick replies, ending or answering calls when opening or closing the phone, etc.

Unfortunately, the Find N3 Flip still has plenty of bloatware apps, which is disappointing for a phone that costs nearly a lakh. These apps include Public, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Dailyhunt, Netflix, Spotify, etc. Thankfully, you can either uninstall or disable most of these apps by heading into Settings.

Oppo has done a great job with updates by providing timely OS and security patches for the phone. The promise of four years of OS updates and five years of security patches puts it on par with competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.
