PlayStation continues to put itself ahead of the competition with its offering of games. With the PlayStation Plus January 2023 games list, it seems like Sony is putting itself on the line of fire. Although the PlayStation Plus service has been well received by both players and critics, some game selections have been criticised. Moreover, with the January 2023 games list for PlayStation Plus, some excellent AAA games are up for grabs. There’s no doubt that this puts more pressure on Microsoft to include better titles for their Xbox Game Pass. Nonetheless, we’ll be taking a look at some of the best games that have been leaked to appear for the January games list.

Without further ado, let’s get started!

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Although Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released in 2019, it’s still played by hundreds of people to this day. After all, this was the first Stars Wars-based game in a long time, featuring action RPG and third-person combat. Considering its popularity, it’s easy to see why this game would be on the PlayStation Plus January 2023 games list. Moreover, this move is well-timed by Sony. The sequel to this game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, is set to release in March 2023. From a marketing standpoint, it makes complete sense to draw in more players and get them excited for the sequel’s release.

If you haven’t played Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order yet, this would be a an excellentpportunity to dive into the game. It remains true to Star Wars lore and offers excellent worldbuilding and combat. Moreover, even if you’re not a fan of Star Wars, you could give the game a try for its challenging combat. The developers have taken inspiration from Dark Souls and Bloodborne to create a truly mesmerising and complex combat system. If you decide to play the game in January, may the force be with you!

Axiom Verge 2

Metroidvania games aren’t most people’s cup of tea. After all, these types of games feature large worlds, challenging enemies, and side-scrolling action. In fact, they’re the perfect homage to the retro action games that were popular on older consoles. However, if you want to try a new Metroidvania game, Axiom Verge 2 is an excellent place to start. This game is part of the PlayStation Plus January 2023 games list, and was initially released in 2021. Another interesting fact about the game is that it features a bit of Indian flavour, with your mysterious billionaire protagonist being named Indra Chaudhari.

The game’s story puts you in Indra’s shoes, tasking her to go to Antarctica to find her missing daughter. Indra fights through hordes of enemies with “Arms”, which are entities bestowing Indra with supernatural powers. The game offers some exciting takes on established gaming norms. Moreover, there are two exceptionally large realms to explore, thereby offering an insane level of content!

Fallout 76

Fallout 76

The inclusion of Fallout 76 into the PlayStation Plus January 2023 games list is a somewhat controversial one. When the game was released in 2018, it was widely panned for its lacklustre world and disengaging storytelling. Moreover, the game’s release included plenty of bugs which ruined the overall experience. However, credit must be given where it’s due, and Bethesda has worked hard to learn from its mistakes. The game now features a lot of worthwhile content, making it a decent game for both hardcore Fallout fans and newcomers.

In fact, Bethesda has posted the official figures for Fallout 76 numbers, and over 13.5 million people played the game in 2022. This bodes well for the kind of content that the game is offering, especially considering the fact that the game’s world is over four times larger than that of Fallout 4. If you like online role-playing games with action elements and frequent new content, Fallout 76 might just be what you’re looking for!

Which tier will feature the games?

PlayStation Plus offers three tiers for users: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Each tier presents different perks, with the more expensive tiers offering better perks. In this case, all three games will be featured on the Essential tier. This is quite a surprise for players in the Extra tier, as only Extra and Premium players had free access to Fallout 76 before this. Industry leaker billbil_kun posted the leak on Twitter:

What’s clear from the tweet is that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be the game that headlines the upcoming PlayStation Plus January 2023 games leak. Nonetheless, all three games are decent in their own right and are more than worth the free claims!

Considering these factors, and the list of PlayStation Plus January 2023 games, you could start your subscription before the year ends.
