WhatsApp Will End Support For These Phones
From October 24, only Android 5.0 and newer devices will receive support. According to the note on WhatsApp’s website, “To choose what to stop supporting, every year we, like other technology companies, look at which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest number of people still using them. These devices also might not have the latest security updates or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp.”
According to reports, WhatsApp will end support on the following smartphones and devices:
- Nexus 7
- Samsung Galaxy Note 2
- HTC One
- Sony Xperia Z
- LG Optimus G Pro
- Samsung Galaxy S2
- Samsung Galaxy Nexus
- HTC Sensation
- Motorola Droid Razr
- Sony Xperia S2
- Motorola Xoom
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
- Asus Eee Pad Transformer
- Acer Iconia Tab A5003
- Samsung Galaxy S
- HTC Desire HD
- LG Optimus 2X
- Samsung Ericsson Xperia Arc 3
Most smartphones in this list have reached their end of life with no updates or support from their manufacturer. Moreover, companies like HTC, Sony and LG have stopped selling their smartphones in India. If you are using an older smartphone, then it’s highly recommended that you upgrade to a newer one.

You can check whether your smartphone is running Android 4.0 by heading into Settings-> About Phone->Android Version. Similarly, iPhone users can head into Settings->General->About to check their current iOS version.
This will ensure that WhatsApp stays functional on your device and you receive the latest security updates. Using an older phone will also make you vulnerable to cyber-attacks apart from incompatibility issues while installing newer apps.
List Of WhatsApp Supported Devices
From October 24, the following devices will be able to continue using WhatsApp:
- Android 5.0 or newer
- iPhones with iOS 12 and newer
- KaiOS 2.5.0 and newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
WhatsApp will notify you ahead of time with reminders to upgrade if you are running an older phone. You will need a new device that can receive calls and SMS, as WhatsApp doesn’t support setting up accounts on Wi-Fi-only devices.
