Motorola Moto C Plus

Moto C Plus is for the youth who wants an affordable phone with spectacular battery life and decent performance. Priced at a low Rs. 6,749, Moto C Plus is not a flagship product but wants to beat the low-price budget competitions against its competitors.

Moto C Plus is a battery champ and arrives with Stock Android. But it fails in performance and camera, staying way behind its competition. It is not an immediate recommendation for an average user.

Motorola C Plus is made out of plastic, but it is quite heavy due to the sizable battery that it comes equipped with. The phone also comes with thick proportions, which may have been slimmed down since the Redmi 4, coming with a similar battery size has been able to come with a slimmer design. There is a metal-like ring around the front, which is made up of plastic and does not make it look premium but seems like a tacky addition. However, the build and the weight gives the phone a bit of sturdiness. It is a solid design which is easy to handle. The front is all-glass with the capacitive buttons at the bottom, which unfortunately is not backlit. The rear has a textured finish which helps with the grip and feels good in the hand.

Moto C Plus arrives with a 5-inch display with a 720p resolution which is quite average considering the move towards 5.5-inch or 6-inch from similar flagships. The maximum brightness is not up to the mark and could have been better. Sunlight legibility is poor. The touch response is not that great, and sometimes, it is necessary for two or three taps to make the screen respond. However, the colours are accurate and natural which is a delight to experience. The minimum brightness goes low enough for good reading experience at night. At the price range, Moto C Plus offers a good display.

Moto C Plus is powered by a MediaTek MT6737 processor clocked at 1.3GHz, paired with the GPU Mali – T720. Even though it is partnered with a 2GB RAM and a 16GB internal storage capacity (expandable by 32GB), it is not a power-packed processor. It is laggy and basic applications like Facebook tends to experience stutters. While light games like Subway Surfers may not have a problem, intensive games like Asphalt 8 will experience terrible frame drops even at the lowest settings. Due to the presence of the Stock Android which is lean and optimised, the interface runs smoothly, and the Google Assistant performs excellent as well. The Stock Android is the killer feature in this phone and saves the phone from a freeze-prone performance. However, it does not offset the limited power offered by the processor.

The Moto C Plus has a rear 8MP camera with an aperture of f/2.2, featuring autofocus and an LED flash. In ample light, it produces good photos with sharp details though there might get a yellow tint to the pictures in auto mode. Close-up shots are not that bad as the autofocus works well and it is quick to detect subject and quite accurate.

However, in low-light, the camera struggles a lot. It fails to detect the subjects that easily. Even when shooting indoors and with ample artificial lighting, the camera produces disappointing results. The shots are often muddy, have a water-colour texture to it, lack details and capture a lot of noise.

The front 2MP camera with an aperture of f/2.8 is capable of clicking social-media worthy shots. It comes with an attractive LED flash, which is great for low-light situations and could capture good images. Without it, the selfie camera seems useless. However, the sensor is mediocre and does not take in enough light to produce adequate details for a selfie. It will make you look good, but it won’t have that oomph factor to it. The best shots are only worthy enough to be put up on social media.

Moto C Plus has a juicy 4,000mAh battery. It is one of the flagship features at this price range. It is a large and powerful battery that can easily make the phone last for a day and some few hours. With a full charge, you can be left with 30 to 40% of the battery at the end of the day after intense use. Moderate use can make it last for about two days. All in all, the battery is spectacular. However, it has compromises, as charging takes a shocking three and a half hours.

Motorola C Plus is a hit and a miss. It has excellent battery life, and it comes with Stock Android which helps the phone performance immensely. While it may not look great, it has a solid build. However, it has poor performance and a below-average camera – two main features that an average user would want in their handset. Moto C Plus is for people who are fans of stock Androids and chunky-looking handsets. However, in terms of performance, camera and use value – Redmi 4 is a much better bargain.
