With the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Oppo Find N3 Flip, should you still consider buying the Oppo Find N2 Flip? The Oppo Find N2 Flip was released earlier this year, and I have been using it for quite some time now. Here is my long-term review of the Oppo Find N2 Flip and how it still manages to hold its own in the foldable segment.

The phone has a premium glass design with a tall cover display that can be easily used one-handed. The large 6.8-inch LTPO inner screen feels smooth, and the crease is almost invisible, making it great for watching content.

Moreover, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset is powerful enough to handle most tasks. The 4,300mAh battery is one of the largest in a flip-sized foldable and supports 44W fast charging. But how is the camera performance, and is the cover screen actually useful? Read our long-term review of the Oppo Find N2 Flip to find out.

Before we talk in detail about the device, let’s see what the on-paper specs look like:

    • Chipset: MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus
    • RAM & ROM: 8GB 256GB
    • Software: Android 13

    • Weight: 191 grams
    • Dimensions: 166.2 x 75.2 x 7.4 mm

Oppo Find N2 Flip Design And Build

Oppo Find N2 Flip has a unique clamshell design reminiscent of the old Motorola Razr phones. The phone is extremely compact when folded, weighing just 191 grams. Moreover, the phone is 7.5mm when unfolded and 16mm when in the folded state.

Despite its thickness, it does not feel bulky or heavy in the pocket and consumes very little space. Given its compact nature, I had to check twice sometimes whether I was carrying the phone.

On the back, there is a tall cover display that covers almost half of the folded portion. You will find the primary and ultrawide cameras with Hasselblad branding in a vertical orientation next to the screen.

    Oppo Find N2 Flip Hinge

After unfolding the phone, you get a large display with a barely noticeable crease with sizeable bezels surrounding it. On top of that, there is a hole-punch cutout at the top housing the selfie camera.

The Moonlit Purple variant has a glossy finish and looks beautiful. The phone’s hinge also has a wave pattern that is visible under light.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Design 2

Oppo calls it a New Generation Flexion Hinge and claims it can last for 4,00,000 folds. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, it can fold completely flat and prop up the device at any angle from 45 degrees to 110 degrees.

This allows for innovative use cases such as using the phone in a tent mode for selfies or a camcorder mode for shooting videos. Personally, I found the former useful when taking group photos.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Right Side

Coming to ports and button placements, there are the volume rockers and the power button on the right. The power button also doubles up as a fingerprint sensor.

    Oppo Find N2 Flip Bottom

Furthermore, you get the secondary microphone at the top while the USB-C port, speaker grille and SIM tray flank the bottom of the device. The SIM tray can house two nano SIMs, although there is no micro-SD card slot.

    Oppo Find N2 Flip Camera

The Oppo Find N2 Flip has a 50-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel ultrawide angle lens. On the inner screen, there is a 32-megapixel camera for taking selfies. Similar to OnePlus, Oppo has collaborated with Hasselblad for tuning the cameras.

During daytime shots, the primary camera takes crisp, vibrant shots with excellent details. The dynamic range is outstanding, with plenty of contrast. Although there is no dedicated telephoto lens, you can still get decent shots with 2x digital zoom.

However, shots taken from the ultrawide angle lens are a bit soft and nothing special to write about. Although it showcases the same colours as the primary camera, you don’t get the same amount of detail.

When it comes to low-light shots, the phone takes fantastic photos, which are comparable with flagship phones in this range. I found the night shots to be better on the N2 Flip than the OnePlus 11 which I recently reviewed. There is plenty of detail, even under extremely low light, with a wide dynamic range and balanced highlights.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip can shoot videos at up to 4K at 30 FPS with the primary camera, while the ultrawide can record up to 1080p at 30 FPS. The footage is decent, with ample details, but the stabilisation is excellent.

Coming to the selfie camera, the 32-megapixel sensor can take amazing photos with crisp details during the daytime. Furthermore, the shots are clear even during low lights and do not produce blurry outputs like the OnePlus 11.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Selfie Sample

Thanks to the cover display, the major advantage of using a Flip phone is that you can use the primary cameras as the selfie shooter. Moreover, Oppo also has a feature that enables a live preview of the camera output so the person in the shot can see how the image will look in real time.

This is a game-changing feature as it allows for better framing of shots while allowing the person in the shot to present themselves better. Additionally, you can fold the phone in half to take photos and videos in camcorder mode for an ergonomic experience.

The camera UI automatically adjusts by moving the viewfinder on one half and the controls on the other. Similarly, the camera controls on the cover screen is also intuitively designed for one-handed usage. I found the flip mechanism convenient as I could prop up the phone on a surface to take selfies and group photos without asking someone else to take the picture.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Battery And Charging

The Find N2 Flip packs a 4,300mAh battery with support for 44W SUPERVOOC charging, although the company bundles an 80W charger in the box. It has one of the largest batteries in a flip-sized foldable, and the 4nm Dimensity 9000+ offers excellent power efficiency.

This means you can expect it to last up to 5 to 6 hours on regular usage. Moreover, the 44W fast charging can also fully charge your phone in just 58 minutes.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Battery Stats

Furthermore, you juice up your phone up to 62 per cent with just 30 minutes of charging. However, the lack of wireless charging is a sore point, especially given its premium price tag.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Display And Sound

The Oppo Find N2 Flip has a 6.8-inch foldable E6 AMOLED display on the inner screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, this FHD+ panel has UTG glass for protection and can reach up to 1600 nits of peak brightness.

The screen has a resolution of 2520×1080 pixels and a pixel density of 403ppi. Despite being foldable, the crease is not visible at all, thanks to the unique hinge that is fully flat.

Although you can definitely feel it when browsing through social media or scrolling through web pages. But it is not as prominent as the one on Samsung phones, which can sometimes become an obstruction.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Content Consumption

Watching content on the 21:9 aspect ratio is a treat, as you don’t get huge black bars at the side. Moreover, the crease is barely visible, making it an immersive and enjoyable experience.

I enjoyed watching Season 7 of “Rick and Morty”, and the speakers with Dolby Atmos were loud enough to fill the entire room. A stereo speaker setup has a speaker grille at the bottom and the earpiece acting as the secondary speaker. There are no distortions when listening to music on the phone at full volume.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Refresh Rate

The screen is bright enough to be used outdoors, and I have had no issues under bright sunlight. Thanks to the 120Hz display, navigating through the UI is smooth and fluid, and the LTPO panel can dynamically adjust the refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, depending on the content.

There is also a Nature Tone feature that can adjust the screen’s temperature depending on the environment, similar to the True Tone on iPhones.

Regarding the cover display, you get a 3.26-inch AMOLED screen outside with a 60Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, this display has a resolution of 720×382 pixels with a pixel density of 250 PPI and 900 nits of peak brightness.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Cover Screen

This 60Hz cover display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. The tall aspect ratio of the cover screen makes it convenient for one-handed use.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Mini Apps

You can use various apps on the cover screen, such as Gmail, Spotify, Notes, Weather, Camera etc. However, unlike Samsung, you cannot run every app on the cover screen, which is disappointing.

In addition, you also get various Always-On display styles on the cover screen, including some adorable interactive pets. These pets perform different actions every time you wake up the display.

You can also access the quick settings and check the notifications on the cover screen, which is pretty handy. Unfortunately, there is no option to rearrange these toggles or replace them with another one. There is no option to change the Wi-Fi; you can only toggle it on or off, making it a bit redundant.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Mini Games

Apart from these, you get various widgets that you can access by swiping left or right on the cover screen. These are rather limited to system apps such as Camera, Weather, Events, Recorder, Wireless Earphones And Timer. In addition, you can also play mini-games on the cover screen if you get bored on the move.

    Oppo Find N2 Flip Performance

The Oppo Find N2 Flip uses the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Although it is not the latest chipset, it is still powerful enough for day-to-day tasks, and I did not notice any stutters or lags.

Even when you open multiple apps in the background, like Spotify, YouTube, Instagram and more, the phone manages to chug through them all. Despite having only 8GB of RAM in our variant, we did not face any problems with memory management.

    Oppo Find N2 Flip Gaming

However, things take a twist when it comes to gaming. The Mali-G710, despite being a powerful GPU, faces constraints due to the unique form factor of the phone. Games like BGMI only support up to HDR and Ultra, whereas COD Mobile can run at 90 FPS.

Although, I faced no issues when running demanding titles like Genshin Impact and Wreckfest at the highest possible settings. The phone did not get warm during my prolonged gaming sessions.

    Oppo Find N2 Flip Benchmarks

When it comes to benchmarks, the Find N2 Flip has a Geekbench score of 1161 in single-core and 3258 in multi-core. Moreover, it throttles to 74 per cent in a 15-minute CPU throttling test, which is surprisingly good for a foldable phone.

In addition, the phone has a stability score of 57.8 per cent in the 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test and AnTuTu V10 score of 732522, defeating 21 per cent of users. Overall, the Oppo Find N2 Flip is a decent phone for performance, but there are much better options if you want something purely for gaming.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Software And UI

The Oppo Find N2 Flip launched with Color OS 13 based on Android 13 and has now received the Colour OS 14 update based on Android 14. Moreover, the company promises four years of software updates for the device, which is surprisingly good and on par with Samsung.

The update also adds new live wallpapers with cute pets for the cover display, although I preferred the ones that were available on the Color OS 13. Unfortunately, Oppo has not expanded the functionality of the cover screen, which I was hoping for with the update.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Foldable Features

You can only run the limited selection of “mini apps” that Oppo offers on the cover display. There are still foldable features from Android 13, such as changing the cover screen style, ending or answering calls when opening or closing the phone, pre-defined quick replies, screen off when folded and voice typing. Hopefully, future Android updates will add more apps to the folding screen as more apps get optimized for foldable phones.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Android Version

On the other hand, the Android 14 update brings many new features, such as the File Dock, which can transfer files between different apps. A new content extraction feature that can automatically cut out objects and people from a photo.

Oppo Find N2 Flip RAM Expansion

You also get new Battery Health and Stop Charging at 80 per cent to ensure your battery does not degrade quickly. Furthermore, Oxygen OS 14 also brings a Smart Cutout feature that shows notifications in a pill similar to Dynamic Island on iPhones. Like Color OS 13, you also get the RAM expansion feature to add up to 8GB of virtual memory for better multitasking.

    Oppo Find N2 Flip Bloatware

I also found a lot of bloatware and pre-installed apps on the N2 Flip, which is disappointing for a phone at this price point. Some of these apps include Snapchat, Finshell Pay, Netflix, WhatsApp, Paytm, Facebook, Spotify, LinkedIn, etc. Thankfully, you can either uninstall or disable most of these apps by heading into the Settings.

Oppo Find N2 Flip Quick Settings

Oppo has done a commendable job by offering timely updates for the phone and promising four years of OS updates apart from five years of security patches. It was also one of the few foldable to receive the Android 14 beta directly from Google. This puts the support on par with its rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, which will receive updates for a similar duration.

    Verdict

Despite newer phones like the Oppo Find N3 Flip and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 bringing significant upgrades to the market, the Oppo Find N2 Flip still manages to hold its own.

The 6.8-inch foldable inner screen has a barely visible crease, making it ideal for content consumption and a unique hinge that can fold completely flat. Furthermore, the cover screen is tall enough to be used single-handedly and is useful in most scenarios, although Oppo should have added support for more apps.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus can handle most tasks and even demanding games easily. Oppo has also delivered the Android 14 update on time and promises four years of OS updates, which is surprisingly good for a folding phone.

Moreover, it is currently one of the few foldable in the market with a large 4,300mAh battery that can easily last a day. It can also be fully charged within an hour, making it great for most users. But the lack of wireless charging and IP Rating sticks out as a sore point, especially given the price of this phone.

Overall, the Oppo Find N2 Flip is an excellent choice if you want a flip-style foldable. However, its high price tag and the availability of newer phones like the Find N3 Flip and Z Flip 5 at a similar price make it hard to recommend.
