OPPO Reno 8 Pro First Impressions – Final Thoughts

At this point, OPPO has established itself as a premium camera phone brand. Their Reno series of phones are a testament to this, but the newly launched OPPO Reno 8 Pro 5G takes things to a new level! This device went official in India on July 18, 2022, and is currently up for grabs. The device has brought some subtle changes to the table over its predecessor, making it stand out. At first sight, things may appear to be very normal on the surface. However, as we dig deeper, it gets interesting.

We got our hands on the latest phone’s Glazed Green model and decided to take a deeper dive into it. The smartphone is impressive, and there are several reasons you should buy it in India. Without any further ado, let’s get right into it!

OPPO Reno 8 Pro Price In India & Availability

The OPPO Reno 8 Pro price in India has been set at Rs. 45,999. This is the price set for the smartphone’s single 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage variant. When it comes to the availability of the flagship handset, it is currently available on Flipkart.

The smartphone comes in two distinct colour options: Glazed Black and Glazed Green. Additionally, there are multiple Bank Offers to make use of, which significantly bring down the price of the device.

Why Buy OPPO Reno 8 Pro – Top 5 Reasons!

1. Excellent Flagship Cameras

OPPO Reno 8 Pro Cameras

It would be an understatement to say that the OPPO Reno 8 Pro 5G camera specs are mind-bogglingly good. For the most part, the smartphone comes with the exact same camera sensors as its predecessor, the OPPO Reno 7 Pro 5G.

At the front, you get to see the same 32-megapixel Sony IMX709 selfie shooter. This is an excellent sensor that can take stunning displays. Plus, you also get to see the Smart Wide Angle feature.

On the other hand, the primary rear camera setup includes the same 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor. Things are pretty normal till here. It is what comes next that makes this smartphone a standalone camera powerhouse.

To take things to the next level, OPPO added a dedicated 6nm imaging processor. This is called the MariSilicon X NPU chipset. For those unaware, this particular chipset uses AI and neural networks to enhance your images. That is what the NPU in the moniker stands for – Neural Processing Unit.

When you have something this powerful in a device, you can expect to see some additional perks. One of these is the 4K AI Night Video feature. That makes this Android device the first of its kind to feature it. Impressive, eh?

2. Stellar Design That Catches The Eye

This is a big device we are talking about. It comes with a 6.7-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display. The smartphone offers excellent weight distribution as it does not feel heavy one bit. The in-hand feel is something else altogether. It is comfortable enough for single-handed usage as well.

We have the Glazed Green variant with us today, and it definitely does look super duper premium. The handset comes with excellent built quality as you get to see a glass back. In addition, although this is a glass back, it does not allow your fingers to leave smudges behind, which is a delight.

The metal frame, single glass panel and flat edge design make this an absolute stunner of a smartphone! If you are someone who is into aesthetics a lot, this will instantly appeal to you.

3. Performance Beast

When it comes to the processor, the OPPO Reno 8 Pro 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX. This 5nm ultra flagship chipset is one processor that you have to experience to really believe it. This processor is not going to let you down in ANY way. From playing BGMI at 90 fps to other games at the maximum possible settings to offering a seamless multitasking experience, it is an insanely powerful performer!

OPPO Reno 8 Pro Gaming

As per Geekbench, the flagship performer scores a whopping 825 points in the Single-Core test and 3272 points in the multi-core test. Additionally, on AnTuTu, the smartphone scored a staggeringly high 7,14,863 points! That makes it beat the OnePlus 9RT 5G and almost be in the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G league.

4. Overpowered Fast Charging Tech

If you are someone who has a super fast life and can’t afford to spend a whole lot of time charging their device, this device is a no-brainer. The OPPO Reno 8 Pro 5G specs include a 4,500mAh battery. With this, the flagship smartphone also brings a whopping 80W SuperVOOC fast charging support to the table! Your device will charge from 0 to 50% in just 11 minutes, and THAT is impressive!

It does not end there, thanks to the OPPO Battery Health Engine. With this technology, the brand is promising up to 1600 charging cycles. An average individual uses up this many cycles in roughly 4 years. So, unlike most devices, you will not see your battery’s durability decrease anytime soon.

5. Stunning Display

The OPPO Reno series of devices are also known for their amazing displays. However, the OPPO Reno 8 display specs are just next level compared to its predecessors. With the Reno 7 Pro 5G, we saw a 90Hz AMOLED panel.

OPPO Reno 8 Series Display

With the Reno 8, not only are you getting a bigger 6.7-inch AMOLED display, but you are also getting to see a 120Hz refresh rate. The overall experience is definitely going to be very fluid. However, do note that this is not an LTPO panel. That basically means that this is not an adaptive refresh rate display. So, you can either go for the 60Hz option or the 120Hz one.

Additionally, the smartphone also comes with HDR10+ certification. With this, you can watch HDR content on Netflix, Prime and other OTTs without any issues.

The Not-So-Impressive Things About It

Of course, no smartphone is perfect, and there are a couple of things we did not like about the OPPO Reno 8 Pro 5G as well. Here’s a quick rundown of it all:

  • A bloatware-free UI is something that most people look for in a smartphone. Sadly, even in 2022, OPPO has not decreased the amount of bloatware their smartphone comes with. The Reno 8 Pro 5G has a fair share of such apps that constantly bug you with notifications unless you uninstall or force stop them.
  • When you are getting a flagship smartphone like this, you want to be able to use it for many years to come. However, this is no Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy, and you are stuck with just 2 Android OS updates and 3 years of security updates.
  • In an ultra flagship like this, the brand really does need to pay more attention to detail. In the case of Reno 8 Pro, you get a 2-megapixel macro sensor in the primary camera setup. Honestly, it is as good as the sensor not being present. At this price point, at least a 5-megapixel macro sensor should be present.

OPPO Reno 8 Pro First Impressions – Final Thoughts

Overall, the OPPO Reno 8 Pro is an excellent flagship Android device to buy in India. However, the competition has never been this serious. There are way too many value-for-money flagship devices to go for in the Indian market right now. The smartphone would have really stood out had the OPPO Reno 8 Pro price in India been under Rs. 40,000.

With that being said, we still really dig this smartphone. The camera quality, built quality and performance you get are phenomenal. Nothing to complain about on either of these fronts. That’s all we have to say about the device for now.
