We’re used to having to unfold our laptops in order to use them. In a traditional laptop, this fold separates the display from the rest of the arrangement. The latest designs aim to incorporate this fold within the display, similar to what we see on foldable smartphones these days. HP is the most recent technology company to express interest in the concept. Let us look at it in details.

HP is reportedly developing the world’s first foldable laptop, or a laptop with a foldable display. When unfolded, the laptop will have a 17-inch display, according to rumours. HP is relying on LG to provide a 4K display suitable for the laptop.

The data comes from a report by The Elec. It mentions that HP may opt for a 4K display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. According to reports, the aspect ratio will be reduced to 4.3, with a diagonal screen size of 11 inches. Aside from that, there isn’t much information on the product right now. Though we may have a heads-up on a possible launch date.

According to the report, HP plans to release the foldable laptop later this year or in early 2023, and it has already ordered 10,000 display panels from LG. The figure appears appropriate given that the technology is still in its infancy in the laptop segment and will remain a premium offering for some time.

There are only a few foldable screen laptops available in India. In India, Asus sells the ZenBook 17 Fold OLED, while Lenovo sells the ThinkPad X1 Fold. Both are premium OEM offerings, and HP is expected to follow suit.

There is still a limited demand for such laptops, and it will be interesting to see how HP attempts to break down those barriers with its foldable laptop. However, if HP does work on a foldable laptop and brings it to market, expect it to come with a hefty price tag. We can expect to see more foldable laptops in price ranges that compete with traditional laptops.
