It is Monday. Lockdown 3.0 has started. 2 more weeks locked at home. And with this, there is a lot that is going out in the world of technology.

  1. The smartphone retailers are worried about the worse effect on the offline sales of smartphones during the lockdown. In lockdown 3.0, mobile phone retailers will re-open the stores wherever allowed as per the MHA guidelines. It is reported that over 5 million phones are lying unsold in the offline channels around the country. Amazon and Flipkart also started taking up online orders for non-essential items including smartphones.
  2. Facebook unknowingly gave a reason to a lot of people to quit Facebook, especially the users from USA and Canada. Facebook has introduced an all-new Data Transfer Project (DTP) tool which allows the users to back up all the photos and videos on their Facebook accounts to Google Photos directly with ease. This feature is currently available in USA and Canada only where over 200-million Facebook users are present. Since the process of backing up so many photos has become easy, the users who always refrained from deactivating their Facebook accounts would not think twice before doing that.
  3. Mobile phone operators including Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea are planning to team up with the government to enable contract tracing of the subscribers. The operators will be making calls to nearly 900 million people to check if they have any coronavirus symptoms. This is a preventive measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
