Google, just after a month of releasing Android developer Preview 1, has started rolling out the second developer preview containing a series of new additions to the upcoming version of the mobile OS. But, what’s new in this build, let’s find out.
The Developer Preview 2, though doesn’t introduce much changes related to the interface, does get some major tuning which are necessary. Though there are numerous changes, we have tried to list a few of them. The new preview focusses on adding features aiming to increase transparency and control, thereby making users secure. This preview has a 5G state API and 5G scanner which will users see if your device is on 5G New Radio or a Non-Standalone network. It also allows applications to notify users if they are connected to 5G network, thereby taking advantage of the additional bandwidth that comes with 5G.

The new preview also shows scope for lock screen clock customisation. This is further enhanced by the company’s focus on improving theming and personal customisation. The DP2 also has a feature that wouldn’t require to manually unlock of the phone after an update with the help of ‘resume on reboot’ function. This way apps and notifications can be accessed without the need to unlock the phone first.
The DP2 also features a programmable interface for foldable smartphones. This would allow users to customize and adjust what’s shown on the display as per the angle of the hinge. The build also gets tweaks for variable refresh rates in apps, mostly due to the growing popularity of higher refresh rate panels. The list for added changes also include camera support for the Android emulator, better app compatibility and seamless scheduled updates.

A major thing to note that this is only available as a developer preview which can only be done by flashing a Pixel device if you’re not running an earlier build. Devices which are already running Preview 1 will get the new release via an OTA update.
