    1. The Design: “Phone Didn’t Even Hesitate”

    Motorola Edge 50 Pro Specifications

I am in love with the phone’s design. It has a sleek form factor with a curved display at the front and vegan leather at the back. The camera island is raised a bit above the back panel, however, it isn’t abruptly placed but rather Motorola has added a slope to its periphery to make it seamlessly integrate with the back panel.

On the back, you are greeted with a large camera island housing its triple cameras and a humongous LED flash. A Motorola logo sits at the centre like a bat signal as always. You can choose between three colour variants i.e. Black Beauty, Luxe Lavender, and Moonlight Pearl, the latter of which has an acetate finish instead of vegan leather.

Motorola is on course to build resilient phones and Edge 50 Pro 5G is the prime example. You get IP68 water and dust resistance with the device that assures all-weather usage without any hassle.

    2. The Magnificent pOLED 3D Curved Display

Motorola Edge 50 Pro 5G gets a ginormous 6.7” pOLED panel. It is the first Pantone-validated display that meets rigorous testing and calibration standards. The display is rated at 1.5K resolution making your viewing experience a bliss. The blacks on the display are deep and the whites and bright which is one of the benefits of having an OLED panel onboard. The display is rated at a 144Hz refresh rate which is much better than regular 60Hz and 120Hz as it makes scrolling and transitions much smoother.

Moving on, we have slim bezels plus a curved display that creates a perspective of having a larger viewing area. If that’s not all, having a curved display is a flagship-like feature that you’ll get on a mid-range device which is a winning situation for those who don’t want to spend lavishly on this feature. Moreover, it also aids in handling the phone single-handedly.

    3. Performance Champ: Snapdragon 7 Gen 3

Motorola Edge 50 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC. The chipset is made using a 4nm process with a max 2.63GHz frequency. It is paired with an Adreno 720 GPU, up to 12GB of RAM, and UFS 2.2 storage. For the unversed, this is the same chipset as the Vivo V30 and the OnePlus Nord CE4.

According to the AnTuTu scores, Edge 50 Pro scored a whopping 827K points compared to Vivo V30’s 804K, and Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus’ 698K. The chipset itself is a rockstar in the mid-range department as it can take any apps and games without crashing or jittering in between. We ran intensive games such as COD and BGMI and even after a 40-45-minute session, the phone’s temperature didn’t rise uncomfortably (which is a good thing).

    4. Android OS With Customizations

Being a Motorola champ, Motorola Edge 50 Pro 5G uses Android 14 paired with Helio UI. This UI tends to replace Motorola’s custom skin MyUX marking the departure from the latter to a more Google Pixel-like launcher. The Android OS, as a base, will get three major upgrades over the next three years which is good for those who are planning to use the phone for longer.

There are a few pre-installed Motorola apps but you can be assured that the makers have included minimal third-party apps keeping the UI clean. Adding to that, Helio UI brings a series of personalization and customization to the UI including changing wallpapers, fonts, icons, sounds, etc. Edge 50 Pro offers Moto Connect, a Samsung DeX-like service that allows users to mirror their smartphone’s screen to an external display. Other features include Moto Secure, sharing apps between devices when setting up the phone, among others.

Motorola is also investing heavily in AI features such as Circle to Search, AI photo editing, and live translation to name a few.

    5. Excellent Set of Cameras

When it comes to the specs sheet, Motorola Edge 50 Pro 5G brings a triple rear camera setup. It uses a 50MP primary shooter with Laser AF and OIS; and a 10MP telephoto snapper with PDAF, OIS, and 3x optical zoom. Finally, there’s a 13MP ultrawide snapper with 120° FoV and AF.

When it comes to the camera performance, Edge 50 Pro 5G does perform up to its name. It captures crisp photos not only in daytime but during low-light situations as well. The cameras manage to retain many details in the shots although expect some hits and misses when it comes to dynamic range.

We can vouch for daytime shots as they are more detailed with appropriate colour reproduction. The 3x telephoto snapper strapped on the back captures detailed images as well although as you move up the zoom ladder, you will see detail retention diminishing but that’s the case with any other mid-range device out there.

    6. The 125W Charging Tech

Motorola Edge 50 Pro is backed by a 4,500mAh battery pack under the hood. I know it is still modest and in fact, a bit lower than a few rivals. However, you must understand that it isn’t just the battery size that matters. Tuned with near-stock Android experience, and a decently powered mid-range Qualcomm chipset among others, Edge 50 Pro still gives you a day’s worth of battery life.

Pair it with 68W charging tech and you get a phone with a seemingly lasting battery. Its 12GB variant doubles the charging speed at 125W should you want something faster. Luckily, Motorola has added a 50W wireless charging in the mix should you need a wire-free way to charge that phone.

    7. It Packs in a Myriad of Features

It won’t be appropriate if we don’t mention the various features the phone brings to the table. A sub-Rs 35,000/- phone indeed, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro packs in an all-day battery paired with a decently powered chipset under the hood.

It has dual SIM slots, a stereo speakers setup, and a Wi-Fi 6e tri-band on the table. There’s Bluetooth v5.4 with LE and A2DP. There’s GPS, NFC, USB-C 3.1. You get an optical under-the-display fingerprint scanner on the table with other sensors such as proximity, compass, and accelerometer. There’s 10W reverse wireless charging should you need other compatible devices. All this packs in a Sub-Rs 35,000 price tag making Edge 50 Pro a lucrative deal to cash in.
