The Vivo T1x is the latest addition to Vivo’s T series, which was just announced in India. Vivo India’s T-series smartphones have performed admirably in terms of design and performance. The same is true for T1x.

It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC, a 4-layer cooling system, a 50-megapixel dual back camera setup, a fast 90Hz display, a big 5,000mAh battery, and many other features. All of this seems fantastic for less than $12,000 in price.

The device appears to be promising on paper. But how does it stand against the competition? Let’s find out in this Vivo T1x review.

  • Vivo T1x Review

The Vivo T1 Pro, which was launched earlier this year, wowed everyone with its elegant look and performance. Following its success, the brand has pushed into the budget market with its latest offering Vivo T1x.

The Snapdragon 680 chipset and 90Hz display make sure you can smoothly do your day-to-day tasks. You get to see a big 5000 mAh battery with support of 18W fast charging, which is not so fast.

The phone aims at budget users with decent performance under 12k. However, is the performance worth the asking price? That is what we’ll find out today in this Vivo T1x review.

    Vivo T1x Design and Build

The Vivo T1x strikes you as simple yet elegant the very first time you see it. It has a glossy plastic back and a simple design. Despite its plastic construction, the phone doesn’t really feel cheap, and the overall build quality appears to be decent.

    Vivo T1x Design

It is available in two colour options: black and blue, of which we got the latter for the review. It has a shiny lustre and a solid blue colour, which may appeal to many. The T1x has a square-shaped camera unit on the back that holds the dual camera configuration with the LED flash and the Vivo logo at the bottom.

Its rounded edges provide a comfortable and safe grip in the hand. It’s also slim and lightweight, with an 8mm thickness and a weight of 182g, making it easy to carry in my jeans pocket. However, the back easily attracts fingerprint smudges, hence you may want to stick a case with it.

    T1x bottom side

Talking about the buttons and ports, the right side houses the volume buttons and a power button, which doubles as a fingerprint scanner. The top side has a SIM card slot, while the bottom side has the 3.5mm audio jack, type-C port and the speaker.

    Vivo T1x Camera

Moving on to cameras, the Vivo T1x features a dual camera setup on the back. This includes a 50MP main camera along with a 2MP macro lens. You’ll see an 8MP camera on the front for taking selfies.

    Vivo T1x Camera

The primary camera captures photographs with good quality in the daytime. While the colours are generally a little warmer and less true to colour, the dynamic range is decent. However, when the light dims at night, so does the overall image quality.

Despite the fact that the phone includes a dedicated night mode, the images get a little blurry and noise creeps in. The 2MP macro lens offers nothing noteworthy and performs below average.

The phone takes really good selfies. Selfies were sharp and detailed, with good colour production. The front camera retains skin tone well in low light or indoor environments, however the image appears soft with less details. You can also take slo-mo videos, panorama shots, time-lapse and more.

    Vivo T1x Camera modes

Videos from both the back and front cameras are limited to 1080p at 30fps. The videos seem to have noise no matter the lighting, and the mic picks up a good deal of background noise.

    Vivo T1x Battery and Charging

Battery performance is where Vivo T1x shines bright. The phone packs a bug 5000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. The battery lasts easily a day of casual use and a heavy user might need to charge the phone by the evening.

My usage involved some light gaming, scrolling through social media and making some calls. The phone comes with VEG (Vivo Energy Guardian) technology which safeguards the battery from overcharging. I got about 7 hours of screen on time, which is quite good.

However, what’s not so good is the 18W charging speed. The 18W charger takes about 2 hours to fully charge the phone from 0 to 100 per cent which is rather slow when compared to the competitors.

    Vivo T1x Display

Vivo T1x features an FHD+ 6.58-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2408 x 1080 pixels. The display also offers a fast refresh rate of 90Hz which makes the whole UI navigation and scrolling buttery smooth. Vivo hasn’t mentioned the peak brightness of the phone, however, during my usage, I found it to be bright enough for outdoor use.

    Vivo T1x Display

You have the option of selecting a refresh rate of 60Hz or 90Hz. Or you can select the Smart Switch options, which determine the ideal refresh rate for an application running on the display.

The display is bright and sharp, and the colours are a little saturated, which I personally loved. The texts and icons were clear to read. You can also experiment with other colour profiles in display settings to find the one that best suits your eyes.

     T1x display settings

Note that you won’t get deep blacks and punchy colours like on an AMOLED display, but it’s still a good display for the price. Overall, I liked the display and found it to be perfect for casual use and binge watchers.

    Vivo T1x Performance

Coming to the performance, the Vivo T1x packs a Snapdragon 680 chipset which is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The processor is fairly capable of handling the majority of daily tasks with ease, especially considering the price tag.

    Vivo T1x Performance

Moreover, you can use the ram expansion feature to add an additional 2GB of RAM using the internal storage. During my time using the smartphone, I discovered that app opening times were fairly quick and multitasking was never a problem.

The T1x was more than enough for my normal use, which includes web browsing, social media scrolling, making some phone calls, and watching videos on YouTube.

T1x has some gaming-centric features like an Ultra Game Mode and Multi Turbo 5.0. However, I won’t call the T1x as a gaming phone, even though the company has advertised it like that. You can do light gaming such as Subway Surfers, Temple Run and similar games but don’t expect more from it.

I tried a couple of popular titles like BGMI, COD Mobile and Asphalt 9. All the games were playable in low settings. However, there were constant lags and jitters even if I increased the graphic settings a little. I wouldn’t recommend this phone if you like to play FPS games.

    Vivo T1x BGMI gameplay

For better heat dissipation and long sessions of continuous gameplay, the company has implemented a 4-layer cooling system.

    Vivo T1x Software and UI

Vivo T1x runs on FunTouch OS 12 skin which is based on Android 11. Recently all the smartphones are coming with Android 12 out of the box, but Vivo is still sticking to Android 11. Hopefully, we’ll get to see an Android 12 update soon.

    Vivo T1x Software

The UI is simple as well as pretty straightforward. There are many customisation options available, and the smartphone runs smoothly. Dragging down on the home screen brings up the Global Search by default, which was bothersome. Thankfully, you can change this in the settings to bring up the notification tray instead.

There are a number of features available, including Dynamic Lock Screen, Smart Mirroring, Split Screen, and Ultra Game mode. The Ultra Game Mode allows you to choose between three performance modes: Battery Saver, Balanced, and Performance. I also found the widgets useful, like the Nano music player and Weather.

Sadly, the phone was packed with bloatware, including Moj, ShareChat, Facebook, Flipkart, Byju’s, PhonePe, Spotify and more. On top of that, I was constantly getting spammy notifications every hour. The good thing is that you can uninstall most of these third-party apps.

    Vivo T1x bloatware

I did not notice any major issues while using the smartphone. All in all, the UI could be a lot better if those third-party apps were removed.

    Vivo T1x Audio, Connectivity, Biometrics

The phone sports a single bottom-mounted speaker that is relatively loud but not so clear. The sound starts to distort when played at full volume. The good thing is you get a 3.5mm audio jack and you can use wired earphones for a better audio experience.

    Vivo T1x Audio quality

Talking about connectivity, the phone comes with 4G support. It’s a bit disappointing not to see 5G support on the device. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

The Vivo T1x comes with a physical side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It is reliable and unlocks the phone quickly. The placement of the scanner is also good and easily reachable. You can also use the face unlock feature, which works fine for most cases.

    Verdict

Vivo T1x is no doubt a good phone under 12k. With the Snapdragon 680 chipset and eye-catching design, it’s aimed at Gen Z users in the budget category. On top of that, you get a beefy battery pack which gives a nice battery backup along with a decent 50MP primary camera.

However, there are some shortcomings which cannot be overlooked. The phone comes packed with bloatware, charges very slow and is definitely not a gaming phone. So, if those were your priorities, you should look somewhere else.

All in all, if you are not into gaming, the Vivo T1x might be a good option for you. The device packs decent performance and features for the price.
