Review Summary

With a 6.1-inch display, the iPhone 11, in my opinion, has the best in-hand feel where it is neither too compact nor too bulky. iPhone 11 gets the same wide notch on the front and “toughest glass yet” on the front and back. Toughness aside, this is still glass. And glass will scratch over time

Introduction

Apple lately launched its next-generation of iPhone smartphones, dubbed iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Since the official launch, people have been asking, “What exactly has changed.” Well, that’s the question on everyone’s mind. The new lineup of iPhones seems similar to the predecessor in various aspects.

Apple has been criticized by the tech community as well as numerous consumers for not innovating or improving the lineup significantly. The smartphone maker has been losing a significant chunk of the market to the Chinese smartphone companies such as Huawei. Does the new list manage to offer something new? Is the iPhone 11 Pro the device you should be considering this year?

Well, we’ll try to answer some of these questions in our in-depth review of Apple iPhone 11 Pro.

Price in India, Variants, Availability

Apple iPhone 11 Pro comes in two storage variants – 4GB+64GB and 4GB+256GB. The smartphone comes in four different color options, namely Space Gray, Midnight Green, Silver, and Gold. The base variant of the device is priced at INR 99,900 while the top-end variant will set you back INR 113,900. The device is up for grabs from all the popular e-commerce platform as well as the offline retailers.

With specs cleared out of the way, we’ll talk about the very first aspect of the review.

Design and Build Quality

As mentioned earlier, Apple iPhone 11 Pro uses the same design ideology as that of its predecessors. The only significant design difference here is in the camera department. The back of the device features a matte finish, which I seem to like very much for two reasons. Firstly, it is not a fingerprint magnet, and secondly, the device doesn’t slip out of hand easily. Apart from this, there is a three-camera setup dominating the entire back. Yes! It looks funky.

iphone 11 pro build quality

No wonder, the device looks and feels premium just like any other iPhone out there. It uses the same glass and metal sandwich. Above all, the device comes with an IP68 rating meaning it can withstand water level to up to 4m for up to 30 minutes. At the front, the device features an OLED panel with a notch housing selfie camera and various sensors. Yes! Apple is still stuck with the ugly notch even though the competitors have achieved all all-screen design.

Although Apple iPhone 11 Pro is a compact phone, it is one of the heaviest ones weighing 188gm. Overall, the design language is pretty much the same; the newer iPhone looks and feels much better than its predecessor. Apple has also claimed that the device features the most robust glass on a smartphone. The device still feels quite delicate, and we would recommend throwing in a back case just in case.

Display

Apple iPhone 11 Pro is equipped with a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED panel with a notch on the front. The notch houses selfie camera and various sensors. Even though the device features the same screen size, the smartphone maker has added a few touches that make it different from the iPhone X lineup. For starters, the device comes with a brightness level that can go up to 800 nits, which is impressive. Thanks to its brightness level, the sunlight legibility is remarkable. While watching HDR content, the brightness can hit up to 1200 nits, which is insane.

The iPhone 11 Pro comes with HDR 10, Dolby Vision, wide color gamut, and True-tone. You can see the difference while watching the iTunes video, which reveals new details, and the black now feels much more real and more in-depth. The smartphone comes with a screen-to-body-ratio of 82.1 percent thanks to the notch and thin bezels on the sides. With 1125×2436 pixels and 458ppi density, iPhone 11 Pro’s display manages to deliver an impressive experience with stunning color reproduction. The screen is vibrant, crisp, and sharp resulting in substantial experience.

Since it is an OLED display we’re talking about here, the viewing angles are pretty impressive. In essence, you will love consuming media on this device. I wish the brand would have gone with an all-screen display design. Lastly, the display features a 120Hz touch sensing technology.

Performance

Under the hood, Apple iPhone 11 Pro is powered by an Apple A13 Bionic chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. The chipset is manufactured over a 7nm+ fabrication process and consists of six cores. For graphics, the device makes use of the Apple GPU, which is a 4-core graphics unit.

These new chipsets are much more potent than the previous one, and it manages to excel at our testing. The closest competitor to this chipset is the Apple A12 Bionic itself. No matter which type of user are, iPhone 11 Pro can handle any tasks without breaking a sweat at all. The overall experience is top of the line. We tried video editing on this device, which was significantly faster than on the previous lineup.

Furthermore, we tried playing a few graphics-intensive games on the device, and the experience was mind-blowing. At the highest settings possible, we have not faced any rendering issue or frame drops, not even a single time. The base variant of the device comes with 64GB of internal memory even at such an expensive price tag.

Software

Apple iPhone 11 Pro runs on the iOS 13 out-of-the-box and is upgradable to the latest version available. If you have been using the iOS software for a long time, then you don’t need any introduction. Apple’s software is one of the best ones out there and is primarily known for its optimization.

With iOS 13, Apple has introduced system-wide Night Mode, which should come in very handy since the device features an OLED panel. The software now comes with a much more superior photo editing tool. There are various noticeable changes such as QuickPath keyboard, redesigned Reminder apps, and a new Find My App. The new software brings the redesigned Photos app, which now comes with the Photos tab within the app and much more. Overall, iOS 13 brings lots of new features enhancing the overall user experience.

Cameras

Apple iPhone 11 Pro comes with a triple camera module at the rear consisting of three 12MP sensors, namely Primary sensor, Ultrawide sensor, and Telephoto lens. The module offers a 2x optical zoom and uses a telephoto lens for portrait shots. You can now use portrait shots on both telephotos as well as a primary sensor. It adds more versatility to the iPhone 11 Pro’s camera setup.

In daylight conditions, the clicked images turn out to be with impressive levels of detail, high dynamic range, and excellent color accuracy. When you switch on the HDR mode, it results in brighter and sharper clicked images. The same goes for an ultra-wide lens, and the switching between lenses is a breeze. The ultrawide lens clicks photos with a high level of detail, and the resulted photos look impressive.

For lowlight scenarios, Apple has integrated Night Mode, which is the key highlight of this year’s iPhones. This time the night mode is baked right into the primary photo mode, which results in astonishing low light photos. It automatically applies extended exposure settings to enhance the quality of the clicked shots. If you’re into taking pictures in dim conditions, then you might want to use this device.

For selfies, there is a 12MP front snapper with an aperture of f/2.2. Even in terms of selfie cameras, iPhone 11 Pro introduces significant upgrades from the previously used 7MP lens. The HDR mode works very well with the front snapper resulting in a high level of details. The color reproduction seems very impressive on this lens, and the dynamic range is up to the mark. Overall, iPhone 11 Pro managed to impress us in both rears as well as the front camera department. Even in the lowlight scenarios, we managed to click some of the best shots out there.

As for the videos, the device supports 4K video recording at 60fps from both rear and front cameras. We finally have the slow-mo video feature for the selfie mode. We have Apple’s cinematic video stabilization, which results in smooth video recording. This phone, too, comes with the Audio Zoom feature that focuses on the audio as you zoom in.

Battery Life

Apple iPhone 11 Pro is fueled by a 3,046 battery capacity with the support of 18W fast charging. Apple is claiming the most extended battery life with the new lineup of iPhones. During our daily usage, the battery life lasted us more than a day almost all the time. iOS 13 low-power mode also comes in very handy to enhance battery life by killing background processes. Our daily usage looks something like this – WiFi and Bluetooth always-on, constant text messaging, extensive music playback, few sessions of Pubg Mobile, and extended video streaming sessions.

The device supports the 18W fast charging feature, which charges the device to 50 percent in just 30 minutes. It also comes with Qi Wireless charging, which by the way, is quite slow and is stuck at 7.5W output.

Audio, Connectivity, Biometrics

For audio, Apple iPhone 11 Pro comes with a dual stereo speaker that churns out an impressive output with lots of depth. Even at the max volume, there is no sign of audio distortion. There is no 3.5-mm audio jack as expected, so you might want to go for wireless audio connectivity or an audio jack adapter. We found no issue with earpiece, microphone, or overall cellular connectivity.

The device comes with dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, lightning port for charging. You also get NFC support for mobile payment and one-tap pairing requests. Coming to biometrics, the device only comes with Face ID, which is the fastest, securest, and reliable one in the market as of now.

Verdict

Apple iPhone 11 Pro comes with some significant upgrades such as improved camera module, excellent display, and a faster processor. Even though the device comes with an expensive price tag, the overall user experience is as premium as you can get. Consuming media on the device is a delightful experience thanks to the wide color gamut and HDR 10 support. If you’re into serious gaming, then you might want to make use of the Apple A13 Bionic chipset.

Even in the camera department, iPhone 11 Pro has brought a significant upgrade over its predecessor. If you’re looking for the best new iPhone in a compact size, then you might want to consider the all-new iPhone 11 Pro. Another thing in which the iPhone 11 Pro excels at is the Night Mode. For a serious photographer, the device could not get any better.

For those who are not into phone photography, there is no point in spending an excessive amount of the newly launched iPhone. If you’re already using the iPhone X lineup devices, then the only reason for you to switch here is the photography and much better battery life. We might see some significant changes in the next lineup of the iPhone, so if you’re already using iPhone X lineup devices, then there is no point in upgrading until you are getting some decent offer.
