OnePlus Issues Software Updates After Complaints Over Display Issues

The rise of OnePlus from the underdog “flagship killer” to a “killer flagship” in itself due to pricing on par with other flagships, is well documented. The latest entry in the successful series are the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The new products have received largely positive reviews, labelling it worth its high price. The display and fast and wireless charging have received special praise for their quality. The phones are already a hit amongst customers, being sold out in China within weeks of launch.

The 7.78inch QHD+ AMOLED display ranks among the best smartphone displays in the current line of products. The phone’s refresh rate has been increased to 120Hz. A new feature called Comfort Tone automatically adjusts the color of display depending upon the ambient light in the user environment.

However, users had noticed an unusual green tint on the display of the device, and took to social media to report the error. OnePlus has officially responded to these remarks, and had promised to fix the issues through software updates.

As promised, the updates are rolling out. The OxygenOS 10.5.5 and 10.5.4 update for the OnePlus 8 Pro and the OnePlus 8 respectively deliver important fixes regarding the “display effect” and camera improvements. Most importantly, the 8 Pro’s update delivers a partial fix for the so-called “green-tint” complaints. Besides display-related fixes, the update  adds some improvements for edge touch sensitivity. In the case of the 8 Pro, it enhances touch rejection along the edges of the screen, which became an issue in many curved-screen phones.

Crushed/clipped blacks also seem to be less of a problem at different brightness levels, but it’s not fixed yet. Camera fixes for low-light white balance and focus on both phones are also present, plus other enhancements in smoothness and stability. Other fixes for mobile data, Wi-Fi, and general system stability are also included.

The updates are rolling out well before general sales open on April 29th.
