Nothing OS 5.0 Supported Devices List

Nothing has not yet published a final official Nothing OS 5.0 compatibility list. But still, we can make out some devices that are likely to get Nothing OS 5.0:
- Nothing Phone (4b)
- Nothing Phone (4a)
- Nothing Phone (4a) Pro
- Nothing Phone (3)
- Nothing Phone (3a)
- Nothing Phone (3a) Lite
- Nothing Phone (3a) Pro
- Nothing Phone (2a)
- Nothing Phone (2a) Plus
- CMF Phone 2 Pro
Nothing’s official schedule confirms Nothing OS 5.0 for both models – Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro. The Phone (4a) launched with Nothing OS based on Android 16. It gets three years of OS updates and six years of security updates. The Nothing OS 5.0 rollout is scheduled for early November.
The Phone (4a) Pro also launched with Android 16 and is scheduled to receive Nothing OS 5.0 in early November.
How Long Does Nothing Support Each Phone?
Nothing OS 5.0 is the last big Android update for some phones. Here is where each stands.
| Phone | Major Android updates | Security patches |
| Phone (3) | 5 years | 7 years |
| Phone (3a), (4a), (4a) Pro | 3 | 6 years |
| CMF Phone 2 Pro | 3 | 6 years |
| Phone (2a) / (2a) Plus | 3 | 4 years |
| Phone (2) | 3 (done) | Until July 2027 |
| Phone (1) | 3 (done) | Ended July 2026 |
Android 17 is the third and final major update for the Phone (2a) series. If you own one, enjoy it. Your next phone should come with a longer promise.
The Phone (2) will miss Android 17 but still gets security patches until July 2027. The Phone (1) received its final update in July 2026.

What About The Phone (3a) Series?
The entire Phone (3a) family is expected to receive Nothing OS 5.0:
- Nothing Phone (3a)
- Nothing Phone (3a) Pro
- Nothing Phone (3a) Lite
Nothing’s more affordable models are also set to receive Nothing OS 5.0. The Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro are scheduled for early November, while the Phone (3a) Lite is due in late December.
The Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus are scheduled for mid-November. Both launched with Android 14 and have a three-year major Android update commitment. This makes Android 17 their third major Android update.

CMF Phone 2 Pro should also get the update
The CMF Phone 2 Pro is also officially scheduled to receive Nothing OS 5.0 in mid-January 2027.
This is an important inclusion because CMF is under the Nothing brand but targets a lower price range. Nothing has already included the device among its current smartphone lineup. If you are choosing between an old Nothing phone and a CMF model, software is worth taking seriously. A newer device can make more sense if long-term Android support is one of your priorities.
Phones that are not expected to get Nothing OS 5.0
Three older models are currently expected to miss the Android 17 update:
- Nothing Phone (1)
- Nothing Phone (2)
- CMF Phone 1
The Phone (1) was promised three years of Android updates and four years of security patches.
The Phone (2) received the same three-year major Android update commitment, plus four years of security patches.
Nothing now lists the Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 as having reached the end of major software support. Hence, none of the three will receive Nothing OS 5.0.
What Can We Expect From Nothing OS 5.0?
Nothing OS 5.0 is based on Android 17. It has new features like separate Notifications and Quick Settings. We can see Quick Share, expanded privacy controls, better screen recording, Noto 3D emoji, a larger Dark Theme, independent Assistant volume, brighter HDR content, and a redesigned Recents screen.
New Look And Home Screen Tools
Nothing OS 5.0 changes how your phone looks and feels. The home screen now uses wallpaper-aware colours, tinted app icons, and transparent widgets. A new Geist typeface and updated icons make Settings, Camera, Gallery, and the status bar look consistent.
There are two new lock screen clock faces. Gooey is bold and playful. Micrographics packs in more information with a clean, hardware-style look.
Three new widgets stand out:
- Away Time tracks how long you stay away from your phone.
- Collector turns your photos into stickers on your home screen.
- Glyph Timer starts countdowns from your home screen.
The Glyph Interface also gets its own app. You can now control all Glyph settings in one place. Batch editing lets you move several apps and widgets at once.
The home screen and Micrographics clock face will arrive with the general release. The Essential Space updates are rolling out separately through Google Play.
I would pay particular attention to three areas:
- The redesigned system interface and icons
- New Android 17 functions adopted by Nothing
- Changes to Nothing’s own widgets, animations, lock screen, and customization tools
In other words, getting Nothing OS 5.0 does not guarantee that every Android 17 function will appear on every model.
Faster, Smoother, And More Private – Android 17 – Performance
Nothing says app launches, scrolling, touch response, and multitasking all improve. Better memory management also reduces app reloads. The Bluetooth controls in Quick Settings are redesigned, so connecting is a single tap.
From Android 17, you get:
- Separate Notifications and Quick Settings.
- Quick Share with a QR code option for iPhone users.
- Stronger privacy indicators for camera, mic, and location.
- Better screen recording and a redesigned Recents screen.
- Noto 3D emoji, an expanded Dark Theme, independent Assistant volume, and brighter HDR.
Android 17 also adds Live Updates, which show ongoing activity in the status bar.
Smarter Essential AI Tools

Essential Space gets Smart Collections. They group related captures for you. Search is better, and the capture flow is redesigned.
Nothing OS 5.0 also adds Model Context Protocol (MCP) support. This lets compatible AI tools access selected information from your Essential Space.
Essential Voice shows text in real time as you speak. It transcribes in over 100 languages. It also supports Super Mic on the Nothing Ear (3).
The biggest change is the Essential Apps Builder. You describe an app in plain language, and Essential builds it and puts it on your home screen. No coding needed. It is in early beta, and access is rolling out slowly. You can join a waitlist.
Not everything arrives at once:
- MCP support is planned for around October.
- The redesigned capture flow starts in November.
- Real-time translation in Essential Voice comes later this year.

Should You Buy A Nothing Phone Before Nothing OS 5.0?
If you’re considering a Nothing phone, the rollout is already underway. The thing to check is your device’s scheduled update date.
The Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (4b), Phone (3), and Phone (2a) series are all scheduled to receive Nothing OS 5.0.
If Android 17 is important to you, be cautious with the Phone (2), Phone (1), and CMF Phone 1. These devices have reached the end of major software support and won’t receive Nothing OS 5.0.
Older models can still be worth considering at a discount if you’re comfortable staying on their current Android version.

Nothing OS 5.1 And Nothing 6.0
Nothing is already working on Nothing OS 5.1. Software product director Dan Elseworth called it a smaller release. It will let you remap the Essential Key to other apps and actions. Nothing has also started work on Nothing OS 6.0, due in 2027. Timelines for 5.1 haven’t been confirmed.
Final Verdict
Nothing OS 5.0 is officially based on Android 17. Nothing announced it on August 25, 2026. The general release is scheduled to begin in October and continue through January 2027.
The confirmed compatible devices are the Phone (4b), Phone (4a), Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (3), Phone (3a) series, Phone (2a), Phone (2a) Plus, and CMF Phone 2 Pro. The Phone (1), Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 are excluded. These devices have reached the end of major software support.
