WhatsApp has announced a new feature to enhance the security of users during calls. This new feature will protect the IP address of users during WhatsApp calls, making it harder for people to trace or locate them. It prevents malicious actors from intercepting your calls and knowing your location.

This new feature relays your calls through the WhatsApp servers instead of directly connecting you to the other person. It adds an extra layer of security and prevents others from knowing your IP Address during calls.

According to a post on Meta’s engineering blog, it created the feature as most calling apps use peer-to-peer connection, which allows participants to see each other’s IP address. Although this offers better call quality, it can also reveal information such as your IP Address and details of your internet service provider.

With the Protect IP Address feature on WhatsApp, you can hide your IP address and prevent others from knowing your location or internet service provider.

Since all calls have end-to-end encryption on WhatsApp, any call relayed via its servers will remain confidential, and even WhatsApp cannot listen to them.

However, there is a potential downside: you will experience a reduced call quality as they are now relayed via WhatsApp servers. It is now available for iOS and Android users on the latest version of WhatsApp.

How To Enable This Feature?

First, you must update your WhatsApp to the latest version from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Next, you need to open WhatsApp and head to the Privacy Section.

Scroll down to find a new Advanced section in the Privacy menu. Open it and enable the “Protect IP Address in Calls” feature. Now, all your calls will have an extra layer of security and will be relayed via WhatsApp servers.
