When Lenovo took Motorola in 2014, the firm did lose its advancing projects and technologies business to Google. However, Motorola has still managed to remain on the leading edge of the mobile industry with its third generation foldable device, codenamed Maven.
It is expected to appear later this year. On top of that, they’re already hard at work on a new foldable gadget. A Maven sequel nicknamed Juno, and an even more ambitious one, a “rollable phone” codenamed Felix.

In the early stages of the rollable category, OPPO has built a functional concept phone called the X 2021. Before abandoning the smartphone market, LG got extremely close to launching a phone. It is known simply as LG Rollable before shutting down the company. In contrast, Felix has a flexible screen that unfurls horizontally to become broader. Making the device seem more like a tablet in landscape configuration than a standard-sized smartphone in portrait mode.
At its smallest, Motorola’s initial try at rollable technology has approximately a third of the device’s screen tucked around a spindle at the bottom, with the rest of its display facing forwards. The motorised screen then unfolds, making the total phone taller than broader, as in the OPPO and LG phones.

Other firms have mainly used foldable screens to extend the size of their phone. However, Motorola’s Razr range has focussed only on making those same-size phones more portable.
With that said, Felix is still in the early phases of development, so there are some crucial considerations. Indeed, Motorola did not yet have a functional hardware prototype. The Android 12 feature allows for the sectionalisation of a single continuous display. It was there to test the software development for it. As a result, it’s reasonable to conclude that Felix won’t be available for purchase for at least another year, if not longer.

Before it’s got out in the market, it might take on a whole new shape or feature set, or one could find it unsuitable for the market entirely since plans are constantly open to revision.
