Disney’s standalone Star+ streaming service has arrived in Latin America. The service bundles as a component of Disney+ in areas such as the United Kingdom, Singapore, and others, includes both scripted and unscripted Latin American content. Live sports from ESPN, new international original content, animated comedies from 20th Television, and movie premieres are among the offerings.

Disney Star+ Streaming Service
Star+ offers as a stand-alone subscription or as part of Combo+, a new package that also includes Disney+. The company predicted a June 2021 launch in Latin America at its investor day in December 2020, as part of its target of attaining 300 million to 350 million streaming users by 2024.

The Walt Disney Company’s President, Diego Lerner, said, “Starting today, Latin American audiences have access to an entertainment experience never before seen in the region. Star+ confirms our commitment to generating relevant and varied offerings by providing our audiences with access to fully personalised content tailored to their tastes”.
As part of its $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox, Disney took control of the three-decade-old Star brand. CEO Bob Chapek revealed plans for a full global Star offering in mid-2020. It is increasing Disney’s reach into worldwide markets; notably with franchises familiar to American fans as titles on Hulu, which is still a domestic operation.
Latin America is an essential bridgehead for US-based streaming services trying to catch up to Netflix on the global stage. HBO Max was launched in the region in June, a year after it went live in the United States. Disney+ came to Latin America in November 2020; with more than 70 Latin American originals developed in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia.
