    Conclusion
  • If you have a smart LCD/LED TV, a soundbar for a smart T.V. is an important extension. In case you have a great smart T.V. but not a soundbar, then chances are either you are using a 5.1 channel or a 7.1 channel speaker system as a separate sound system, or simply rely on your smart T.V.’s built-in speaker to accommodate your entertainment needs.

When we talk about the past, there was a time when setting up a music system was a hectic task as your conventional 5.1 or 7.1 channel music system required a lot of room with a lot of wiring to be laid down and a very complex audio receiver sitting in front of your T.V. transmitting the audio. These channel speakers are still in demand, but their lack of portability and agility makes them an obsolete technology. There is a perfect replacement for it that is a soundbar.

    What is a soundbar?

    soundbar for smart t.v

A soundbar is a single unit of music system shaped rectangularly and placed preferably beneath your smart T.V., or you can stand it in front of your smart T.V. These soundbars come in different shapes and sizes. Still, the high-end ones tend to be very sleek in their design. You will find that they also have a subwoofer with them that can be placed anyplace you want in the room where your smart T.V. is so that you get that rich bass coming out of while you stream your content.

During the covid times, the way we look at infotainment and the entertainment sector has changed. With movies, shows and other content released on OTT platforms, we are now living at such a time where you can turn one of your house’s rooms into an entire cinematic entertainment den with all the best in class smart T.V., recliner chairs and whatnot. But, people tend to skip on investing in the music system while doing such an upgrade as they feel that their smart T.V. is enough to cover that but can never be so wrong. We feel that with compact music systems’ arrival in the market, a soundbar seems like a great option to look into to have a much better cinema hall type of immersive experience to watch content right at your home.

Why do you need a soundbar for your smart T.V?

A soundbar is a significant investment to enhance your entertainment experience. If you invest in a soundbar, your cinematic experience will amplify, and you will have a much more unique experience of the content you are watching.

As we know, that soundbar is a single unit; it still functions like a surround sound 5.1 or 7.1 channel music system. With the soundbar, you can better grasp that complex dialect audio and have a more immersive cinematic experience like a cinema hall.

You may feel that your T.V is giving you the ultimate experience in terms of sound quality but wait till you buy a soundbar as these compact music systems are tailored to let you have a much more immersive experience.

What should you look out for in a soundbar?

An ideal soundbar for you will rely upon two factors-

    1) Size of your smart T.V

    2) Size of your room

    Subwoofer as an extension

Some soundbars have a subwoofer with them, which are wireless in most cases and tend to be a bit pricey because of the lack of wires dangling. Subwoofers are a unit that comes along with the main soundbar speaker that will generate bass to let you have a more immersive experience when you witness an explosion, calamity or any intense scene on your smart TV screen.

    Surround sound

Our traditional 5.1 or 7.1 channel music systems had a lot of speakers that needed to be set up all around the room so that the speakers could imitate surround sounds while watching a movie and make you feel like you hear the sounds from all the corners. But, the same surround sound can be experienced with a soundbar with less space for the hardware and not compromising the surround sound quality.

    Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are the latest technology in the sound industry and are made to let the user of such technology experience true cinema in their own house. It is a combination of digital revelation shooting out all sorts of sound at a different levels and reflecting them off the walls of your room to create a more immersive entertainment experience. Still, in reality, all the sound and audio is being transmitted through that one soundbar sitting in front of your smart T.V.

Choosing a soundbar or a sound base

There is another alternative available for the soundbar, which is a sound base. They are gigantic in size compared to a soundbar and cannot be mounted on a wall, so you are only left with the option of placing them beneath your smart T.V. Sound base and soundbar perform the same set of functions, but the sound bass will be a better option for people who want extension speakers later on to go along with the sound bass for a better cinematic experience.

    Working of a soundbar

    soundbar structure

The soundbar is usually placed beneath your smart T.V, either on a table or mounted on a wall as per your convenience.

Soundbars receive the encoded sound from smart T.V and then decode it using auditory technology to provide an exhilarating and crisp sound. Every word that is spoken with a lingo to the natural sounds in the movie, you will hear it all so clearly that you will as if you are inside the movie. If you watch Sci-Fi movies, you will feel as if you are not watching that movie but living it.

If your soundbar has Dolby Atmos and DTS:X enabled, the sound will also surround the room for an authentic 360° experience.

    Types of soundbar channels

Channels in a Soundbar mean the number of speakers mounted inside the soundbar as it is a single unit. These days, the content we watch is 5 to 7 audio channel compatible- centre, left, right, two in the back(one on the left side and one on the right side on the back).

    2-channel soundbar:

Two speakers are mounted inside the single soundbar unit, one on the left and one on the right.

    3-channel soundbar:

Three speakers are mounted inside the single soundbar unit, one on the centre, one on the right and one on the left.

    5-channel soundbar:

As discussed earlier, this unit has five speakers mounted in the soundbar unit, one on the centre, one on the right, one on the left, and two rearward speakers.

    7-channel soundbar:

7-channels is the same as 5-channels but with a twist, splitting surround and rearward channel speakers in 4 channels so that you have seven in totality.

    Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundbar:

This is the epitome of the soundbar and is found only on your 5 or 7 channel soundbars. The thing that is different about the Dolby Atmos-enabled soundbar is an upward-facing speaker mounted in the soundbar that will bounce off the sound from the wall, giving a three-dimensional soundstage effect. This soundbar is ideal for a room having 10+ feet of ceiling height.
