Vivo has launched its latest contender in the market, which goes by the name Vivo T1x. Vivo isn’t usually associated with smartphones designed for gaming and performance, but that’s about to change with its T lineup of smartphones, which are specifically designed for gamers.

The Vivo T1x and the Vivo T1 5G are both part of the Vivo T-series, and today, we’ll be reviewing the more affordable of the two – the Vivo T1x. It comes packed with Snapdragon 680 processor, 90Hz FHD+ display, 50MP primary camera and much more under just 12000.

All these specs look amazing, at least on paper. But does the phone perform as good as it should? Let’s find out. Here are my first impressions of the Vivo T1x.

Vivo T1x Price in India and Variants

The Vivo T1x comes at a starting price of 11,999 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It is available in two more variants: 4GB RAM + 128GB Storage for Rs. 12,999 and 6GB RAM and 128GB storage for Rs. 14,999.

The phone is available in two different colour options: Gravity Black and Space Blue. You can buy the phone online from Flipkart.

Vivo T1x Design and Build

Vivo has done an admirable job of transforming the T1x into a sleek and visually appealing device. Given its low cost, the Vivo T1x is an impressive stunner that stands out among its competition. You can choose between Gravity Black and Space Blue colour options. We have the Space Blue colour variant for the review.

Vivo T1x design

The phone is easy to hold thanks to the flat backside and side frames. Because of the device’s lightweight design, it’s easier to hold in hands for long gaming sessions and binge-watching sessions. The back of the phone has a square camera bump in the top left corner. This is where the back camera module is, and you will find a Vivo logo on the bottom.

The back of the phone has a smooth finish, and that is why it attracts dust and fingerprint smudges.  I also found the phone to be a little slippery, so it’s advised that you should use the phone with the clear case that comes inside the box for a better grip.

Vivo T1x right side

The right side has the power button which doubles as a fingerprint scanner and volume buttons, while the top has the SIM tray. Whereas the bottom side has the Type-C port, 3.5 mm audio jack and a loudspeaker.

Vivo T1x bottom side

The T1x might not be the most eye-catching when it comes to design and build, but it certainly doesn’t look like a cheap phone. It is reasonably thin and lightweight, and the build quality is about what you’d expect from a mid range phone.

Vivo T1x Display

The Vivo T1x comes with a big Full HD+ 6.58-inch LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The display offers a bright, vivid experience with rich colours and decent brightness.

The colours are nice, but once again, it is not the finest in the price range; however, if you are looking for a budget-friendly smartphone, this one will do. Since this is a gaming device, Vivo ensured that it could provide gamers with a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience with the support of the 90Hz refresh rate.

When playing video games late at night, users can turn on the blue light filter mode to keep their eyes safe. In addition, you have the option of manually adjusting the screen temperature to suit your preferences.

Although the single down-firing loudspeaker delivers decent sound quality, I would suggest you to use wired earphones for a more immersive audio experience.

Vivo T1x Camera

The Vivo T1x includes a dual camera setup on the back. This includes a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP macro lens. You will find an 8MP front camera for taking selfies. Now since this is a budget smartphone, I didn’t expect much in the camera department. However, things were not as bad as I thought.

Vivo T1x Camera

The 50MP primary camera manages to capture good shots in the daylight with ample details and sharpness. The pictures had good saturation and the colours were also close to natural. However, things take a whole turn during low light. As the light drops, so does the quality of the images.

The portrait shots were just okay-ish. The background blur was done well, but the overall bokeh effect was not looking so good.

Coming to the macro lens, just forget about it. The shots taken with it were not usable at all. The images lacked details and were not so sharp.

The 8MP front camera took great selfies in the daytime. The selfies were detailed and sharp with natural skin tone. The better the lighting, the better the images came out to be.

Overall, the images came out to be pretty decent for sharing on social media.

Vivo T1x Performance and UI

Now let’s talk about the highlight of the phone. The Vivo T1x gets its power from a Snapdragon 680 chipset which is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. You also get a RAM expansion feature that can further add 1/2 GB of RAM on the 4/6GB RAM variant respectively.

Vivo T1x Performance

The phone glides through all the day to day tasks, and I did not notice any major shutter or lags while using the phone. The phone was able to multitask and switch between a couple of apps.

Let’s now talk about gaming, the most interesting part. I tried a couple of titles like Battle Grounds Mobile India, COD Mobile and Asphalt 9. All the games ran well in low to medium settings. BGMI maxed out to Smooth graphic + High FPS settings, whereas the COD Mobile ran well in Low graphics and High FPS settings.

You will also find an Ultra Game Mode that focuses all the power to improve the gaming performance. The Gaming Assistant allows you to select between three modes while playing games: Battery Saver Mode, Balanced Mode and Performance Mode.

Vivo T1x software

The phone runs on FunTouch OS 12 which is based on Android 11. The UI was also pretty simple and straightforward. One thing I didn’t like about the phone was that it came pre-installed with a bunch of bloatware. The good thing is that you can uninstall most of them.

Vivo T1x Battery and Charging

Vivo T1x packs a big 5000 mAh battery that will easily give you two days of light usage on a single charge. I got about 5-6 hours of screen on time, which included some casual web surfing, Instagram scrolling, taking pictures and playing games.

Now, if you are a heavy user, you would need to plug in the charger by the evening. The phone comes with 18W fast charging support, which feels somewhat slow considering the big battery pack.

The 18W fast charger takes about one and a half hours to fully charge the phone from 0 to 100 per cent. The phone also comes with VEG technology that protects the battery from overcharging by automatically stopping the charging when it reaches 100 per cent.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • 90Hz refresh rate screen
  • Fresh design
  • Good battery backup

Cons

  • Only 18W fast charging
  • No 5G connectivity

Verdict

Vivo T1x may not have the most impressive design, but the device’s price tag for the specs it offers is undeniably attractive. Who would expect to see a mid-range Snapdragon 680 chipset on an entry-level smartphone?

Throw in the big 5000 mAh battery and 90Hz display, and there you have it! A perfect entry-level phone. The primary camera also does the job quite well, and I have no complaints about it considering the price tag.

All in all, Vivo T1x seems like a great device that offers a good performance that punches way above its class.
