Sony’s PlayStation State of Play is one of the premier livestreams for gaming. Last month, Sony conducted the livestream on February 7. They covered exclusively Gran Turismo 7, showing the differences from the previous iteration and the enhancements added to the new title. This month, the livestream took place on March 9, 2022. Instead of covering one single game, they covered multiple topics and gave an insight into the progress of the gaming world.

What is Sony PlayStation State of Play?

Sony’s State of Play livestream isn’t a difficult concept to grasp. After every monthly interval, Sony conducts a livestream giving us gamers updates on games, software changes, and news on hardware. The timing of the livestream depends entirely on Sony, as they conduct the livestream when they see fit.

Hardware reveals happen more rarely, though. The last time that Sony revealed upcoming hardware was the reveal of the PlayStation 5 at the tail end of 2020. They tend to announce the livestreams on the official blog. So, you can check the blog for periodic updates. Nonetheless, we here at Cashify have covered the basics!

New Games Announced on PlayStation State of Play

Instead of focusing on one single game this time, Sony revealed multiple new games and gave updates on already announced games. Keep in mind that some of the updates are minimal, at best. Developers usually disclose only specific information to which the general public can be privy.

Exoprimal

The first new game announced on State of Play is Exoprimal. Capcom is the brains behind this game. The game seems to be a futuristic shooter that focuses on multiplayer gameplay. The primary antagonists are dinosaurs that want to wreak havoc on humanity. Players will control characters wearing exosuits, who must protect society from this primal threat.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Edition

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the next entry on this list. This PlayStation title is aimed at older gamers and gamers who want to experience the nostalgia of 80s and 90s gaming. The compilation brings some of the favourite titles from the franchise in a single bundle.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle – This is another new game from the Orient. The game takes inspiration from the immensely popular anime. Players can choose from 50 different characters and battle them against each other. The game looks like it’ll be a fun brawler. Sony announced the game for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Returnal Ascension

If you haven’t played Returnal on PlayStation 5, I recommend you to give it a try. This game has received great reviews for its graphics, story, and gameplay. The State of Play announced an expansion for this game, titled Ascension. The expansion includes co-op for the campaign mode and a survival mode for those who like a challenge.

The DioField Chronicle

The DioField Chronicle – Gamers are well aware of the greatness of Square Enix as a studio. They have delivered some incredible games in the past, including the latest Tomb Raider franchise. With the DioField Chronicle, you’ll get a fantasy RPG with unique aesthetics. The game will release in 2022.

Valkyrie Elysium

March’s State of Play brought us another Square Enix game. The game has a female, sword-wielding protagonist who is a Valkyrie. It is heavily drawing inspiration from the Ragnarok legend and Square Enix’s older Valkyrie series. Valkyrie Elysium will release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

State of Play Updates on Previously Announced Games

This month’s State of Play gave us a few updates on the games we already knew about. The games were announced much earlier, and the developers saw fit to reveal some new information about them. Here are the updates on these games.

GhostWire: Tokyo

GhostWire: Tokyo is an action-adventure game by Bethesda. Since it’s slated for a March 2022 release date, the developers provided a new trailer. This trailer showed a desolate Tokyo replete with cyberpunk visuals. It also showed some fantastic gameplay and gave us updates on what the game’s story may be.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

There wasn’t too much to reveal regarding this game. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is set in an alternate universe, before the events of the first Final Fantasy game. All the characters face the dangers caused by the primary antagonist, Chaos. As a player, you will have to fight iconic bosses from the series.

Forspoken

The State of Play provided us with a beautiful trailer for the upcoming action game, Forspoken. This game includes role-playing elements, and the trailer showed off exciting gameplay mechanics. Forspoken will feature a real-time combat system and extensive platforming through the open world. The game will release on October 11, 2022, for PC and PlayStation 5.

Gundam Evolution

The Gundam anime series has been a fan favourite ever since the franchise’s release in 1979. With Gundam Evolution, you get a multiplayer shooting game in which you can control large, tank-like suits called mechas. The other information we have regarding this game is that the network test will take place only for US and Japanese audiences in the first half of 2022.

GigaBash

Taking another cue from Japanese pop culture, GigaBash is a brawler game that’s played from an isometric perspective. Moreover, instead of controlling humans, you get to control large creatures called kaiju. You can play with a kaiju of your choosing and fight online with other players. The game will feature destructible environments.

Trek to Yomi

If you’ve watched films by the iconic Akira Kurosawa, you’re well aware of how he used cinematography and lighting to create brilliant and engaging atmospheres. Trek to Yomi reminds me a lot of his films. This is a Japanese action game centred around the samurai culture. The entire game has a black-and-white colour scheme. The game is developed by Devolver Digital and will feature prominent Japanese actors. Trek to Yomi is slated for release this year on most major platforms.

So, what did you think of this month’s PlayStation State of Play? I think it’s great that developers worldwide are getting such a vast platform to showcase their games. This month leaned heavily towards games from Japan. Personally, I’m very excited about Trek to Yomi. We’ll have to wait and watch how these games turn out!
