  • The Nothing Phone (1) was finally revealed at the launch event held on July 12, 2022, in London, UK. Carl Pei introduced the various facets of the phone, including the specifications and the pricing. In India, the phone will be available via Flipkart from July 21, 2022, from 7:00 PM onwards. Now, considering the hype surrounding the phone, plenty of you must be considering buying the Nothing Phone (1). After all, this phone is quite unique in terms of looks and sports a decent specifications sheet. However, there are a few reasons why you should reconsider buying the new smartphone from Nothing. In this article, we’re going to look at a few reasons why you should not buy the Nothing Phone (1).

    Let’s check out the reasons!

    Underwhelming processor

    Underwhelming processor

Considering the price point of the Nothing Phone (1), starting at INR 32,999, you’ll find many other phones sporting better processors. The Nothing Phone (1) comes equipped with a Snapdragon 778G+ SoC. While this isn’t a bad processor by any means, it isn’t as powerful as the Snapdragon 780 or the Snapdragon 870 that you get in cheaper phones like the iQOO Neo 6. Granted, the 778G+ was installed on the phone to maintain longer battery life. However, is it worth the downgrade in terms of processing power?

The Snapdragon 778G+ SoC is a more recent processor. Nonetheless, that’s the only benefit coming from this chipset. In the long run, a mid-range processor like this may not be able to hold its own against newer applications and games.

    The design

    Design

The Nothing Phone (1)’s design has been marketed as one of the key factors separating it from the rest of the competition. However, while it does make the phone look unique, too much attention has been given to the Glyph Interface. The combination of 900 LEDs might make the phone stand out from the competition. Regardless, apart from using the Glyphs to glow according to your notifications and ringtones, there’s not much use for it.

If you’re someone who prefers a sleek and minimalist design to their phones, you will not be getting this with the Nothing Phone (1). Other phones available on the market at this price segment will offer a more premium design without catching undue attention.

    After-sales services

After-sales services why you should not buy the nothing phone (1)

After-sales service is one of the most critical factors you need to consider before buying a phone. After all, you’re never quite sure about protecting your phones from drops or spills. All you can do is try your best to ensure that your new phone doesn’t face any mishaps. However, in case you do, if your phone brand’s service centres are easy to find, you’ll be able to take care of the phone issue almost immediately. Nothing doesn’t have the after-sales presence of its competitors yet. In fact, there’s only one service centre for Nothing in Delhi. If you’re living elsewhere in different cities, it’ll be problematic for you to find a fix for your Nothing Phone (1) in case of an emergency.

    Nothing OS

    Nothing OS

Nothing has branded the Android 12 user interface designed for its phones as highly minimalistic. In fact, the Nothing OS has been designed to integrate seamlessly with other Nothing products and products from leading tech giants. At least, that’s how it sounds on paper. However, the Nothing OS doesn’t do much in terms of either minimalism or customisation options. When you’re using a phone that looks this unique, you’d expect the user interface to complement the phone’s design.

In the case of the Nothing OS, the options are highly limited. You won’t find too many customisation options when it comes to the icon size, and there’s a lack of customisation options when it comes to the home screen. There are only three brand-specific wallpapers with the Nothing OS, and none of them provides the minimalist feel that a user might be looking for. Overall, the Nothing OS has been branded as minimalist but comes off as dull.

    Unproven brand

Brand why you should not buy the nothing phone (1)

Before the release of the Nothing Phone (1), Nothing had only one other product on the market – the Nothing Ear (1) earbuds. The earbuds did receive positive feedback, but the design was polarising for plenty of customers. Carl Pei is a proven tech entrepreneur, and his exploits with OnePlus have made him a household name in the tech industry. However, his new brand, Nothing, still has much to prove against its well-established competitors. As a consumer, it’s difficult to invest such large amounts of money on a phone that comes from a fledgeling startup. People might opt to wait for a few more products and positive reviews before making a purchasing decision on the Nothing Phone (1).

    Summing up

Although Nothing has done a fair amount of marketing for the Nothing Phone (1), there aren’t too many reasons to buy the phone just yet. Hopefully, these points on why you should not buy the Nothing Phone (1) have given you some food for thought. After all, even the base price of INR 32,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM variant of the smartphone isn’t a small investment. Before spending your hard-earned money on this relatively unproven phone, you should also check out some of the other phones available in this price segment.
