About the Mobile Phone

Realme 5 Pro is a modification of the Realme 5. It has a few pros and cons:

Pros

  • Realme 5 Pro is a handsome set and fits in your palms comfortably.
  • The phone has a headphone jack and USB Type-C processor.
  • The display of the phone is quite colourful and bright, even when you take it outdoors.
  • The phone supports Widevine L1 DRM to allow streaming of high-resolution videos.
  • The phone comes with a Snapdragon 700-series processor which keeps the multitasking fast and gaming experience smooth.
  • The phone has a fast-charging battery that can be charged to a decent amount within half an hour.
  • The photos clicked on this phone turns out to be natural and accurate with daylight shots.

Cons

  • The camera module on this set bulges out a bit, making the design poor.
  • The phone has a fast-charging battery, but the battery longevity can be mediocre after a single charge.

Overall, Realme 5 Pro packs quite a punch. While there are some minor flaws, the phone can be dubbed as a decent all-rounder. It is a worthy phone and a recommended buy.

Addressing the flaws of Realme 5, Realme has come out with the Realme 5 Pro. Priced at Rs 14,999, the Realme 5 Pro is a real beauty and can be a mid-range all-rounder. Realme 5 Pro Price in India

There are three different RAM models of Realme 5 Pro are available in two colour variants – Crystal Green and Sparkling Blue. They are 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB paired with 64GB and 128GB internal storage. All these variants are priced at Rs.13,999 (4GB+64GB), Rs.14,999 (6GB+64GB) and Rs 16,999 (8GB+128GB). The handset is touted by the company as ‘Quad Camera Speedster’ phone and also a mid-range smartphone.

Despite coming at a low price, the Realme 5 Pro is handsome. It is slim at 8.9mm and not very weighty, having a heft of about 184g. There is a geometric pattern on its back – a design which we have previously seen in low-cost phones like Realme 3i and Realme C2. However, this time, it has a metallic sheen to it and a smooth finish. The shapes can change colours based on how the light falls on it, making it look subtly premium and less loud. The phone has a glossy look and, quite astonishingly, is not slippery. The power and volume buttons are on the opposite sides and can be easily reached. For the traditionalists, the phone has retained the 3.5mm headphone jack while for the modernists, it has upgraded to the USB Type-C port. The fingerprint sensor is on the rear panel and is quite fast too. The only disadvantage of this phone is its raised camera module. While you do get four cameras on the back, it is not sitting in flush and may look awkward. Overall, the improved design is a strong point for this phone.

Realme 5 Pro arrives with a large 6.3-inch LCD screen with the Realme claim of having 90.6% screen-to-body ratio. The bezels are narrow, but the chin is a bit prominent. The display is full-HD+ with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels. It is quite bright, and unlike the Realme 5, it can be used outside. The colours are kept natural and pop out when used indoors. Videos can look sharp and immersive. One of the best things of the Realme 5 Pro is that it supports Widevine L1 DRM for high-resolution video streaming. Realme 5 Pro has worked on the display progressing from Realme 5.

Realme 5 Pro is fitted with a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset. It comes with two Kryo 360 Gold cores clocked at 2.3GHz and six more Kryo 360 Silver cores clocked at 1.7GHz for efficiency. It is integrated with the Adreno 616 graphics. The 712 chipset is a bridging chipset between the low mid-tier 600 series and the high-end 800 series. It does have a significant edge over the Snapdragon 660 and a slight edge over the Snapdragon 710. The phone arrives with three RAM settings: 4 GB, 6GB and 8GB. The phone can perform efficient app switching without slowing down. The 8GB variant makes multitasking smooth even if you are using intensive apps. The fingerprint scanner and the Face Unlock is quite snappy. If you are a gamer, you can play PUBG Mobile on this phone running at High settings smoothly. However, the phone can get a bit warm over a session of gaming.

The Realme 5 Pro comes with a 48MP primary camera with an f/1.79 aperture. It also supports PDAF. This lens was previously found on expensive handsets so; it is a significant upgrade for Realme 5 Pro. Plus, it has an 8MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.25 aperture and two 2MP lens one for macros and the other for depth sensing. The shots taken during the day are quite decent with the colour being balanced out well. The phone cameras are quick to focus also. However, distant objects can acquire a bit of grain, especially in the shadowy areas. The wide-angle camera delivers low-quality shots and should not be used for normal photography. There is a loss of colour accuracy with it. The Macros camera plays with the composition. The AI scene detection suggests you switch to Macro Lens when you are going for a closeup. The Ultra Macro Mode is a hit and miss with the details around the edges not being adequately captured. The shots were not very impressive though the depth of field is appreciable.

In the front, there is the 16MP selfie camera. They click decent shots though some of them look overprocessed. The portraits have a poor edge detection too.

Nighttime shots are generally inferior. The colours appear dull, and objects are not very discernible.

Regarding videos, the phone records videos in 1080p at 30fps. It can also get 4K videos at 30fps. There is an electronic stabilization which can help in stabilizing videos. The videos turn out to be good when taken in the day but can get blurry at night. Unfortunately, you can’t use the wide-angle camera for recording videos which are disappointing.

The phone comes with a powerful 4035mAH battery. Plus, unlike the Realme 5, it has Oppo’s VOOC quick charging technology. It can get through a whole day with a single charge. Moderate to intensive use like video streaming, playing games, etc. do not drain the charge to a great degree. Running an HD video on a loop made it last for 12 hours and 41 minutes, which is okay but not a great score. Charging is fast; however, with the battery getting up to 15% in 10 minutes and 70% in over 30 minutes.

The Realme 5 Pro goes through a lot of changes from the Realme 5. It has a fantastic display which is paired with a grand design that keeps it premium. Plus, the processor of this phone is quite decent too. While the battery has downgraded in size from the 5000 mAh offered by the Realme 5, it comes with fast charging which makes the battery a reliable companion. Overall, it is a good set, though, if you can amp up your budget, you might go for the Realme X which looks great and have superior performance.
