The world of technology is ever-evolving, with new innovations and designs hitting the market regularly. The latest buzz in the smartphone industry is the upcoming OnePlus Open foldable phone. As the business of smartphones is no development ever remains in the shadows for too long. There are already plenty of rumours and speculations surrounding the device. But what can be believed from among all that? Here are a few facts that you can be sure about the upcoming OnePlus Open
OnePlus Open Foldable Smartphone
The Oneplus Open is a foldable smartphone and as we know OnePlus tries to do things differently. Here is everything we know about OnePlus Open.
Design
OnePlus has always been a trendsetter in terms of smartphone design, and with the OnePlus Open, they are pushing the boundaries even further. The phone is expected to feature a unique foldable design that opens like a book, dividing the device into two halves. When unfolded, the phone will transform into a tablet-like device, providing a larger screen for an immersive viewing experience.
OnLeaks and Smartprix have shared a series of renders depicting the OnePlus Open, based on early internal prototypes. These images hint at a large circular camera bump and a faux leather material gracing the phone’s back. In addition to this, the launch is also anticipated to offer options of a glass or metal finish. The company’s trademark alert slider is also expected to feature in this upcoming device.

Display
The OnePlus Open is likely to boast a stunning foldable AMOLED display. The screen size, when unfolded, is anticipated to be approximately 8 inches, providing ample space for multitasking and media consumption. While the outer screen is supposed to be just 6.3 inches in size which is a bit larger than that of Pixel Fold.
The display is also rumoured to support a high refresh rate of 120Hz for smooth scrolling and gaming experiences. With an expected resolution of 1900 x 2100 pixels, the phone is supposed to have an LTPO display with a dynamic refresh rate. Additionally, HDR10+ certification is likely, which would greatly enhance colour accuracy and contrast.
Performance
In terms of performance, the OnePlus Open is rumoured to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor coupled with up to 16GB of RAM for multitasking. Such specifications suggest that users can expect lightning-fast performance and effortless multitasking.
The phone will likely run on OxygenOS based on Android 13, offering a clean and intuitive user interface. OnePlus’s proprietary software optimizations specific to a foldable smartphone should further enhance the performance and efficiency of the device.
Camera
The OnePlus Open is expected to feature a versatile camera setup. On the rear, it’s predicted to have a 48MP primary sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64MP telephoto lens. This combination would allow for a wide range of photography options, from landscape shots to detailed close-ups. There also seems to be the possibility of a LiDAR or ToF sensor.
The camera software is likely to be packed with various modes and features, including Nightscape, Super Macro, UltraShot HDR, and more, offering users numerous creative possibilities. There will also be two selfie cameras, one with 20MP on the inside and a 32 MP camera on the cover screen.
Stylus support
Based on recent online discussions and articles, there’s a high expectation for the forthcoming OnePlus Open to support stylus use. Considering the OnePlus tablet’s compatibility with the company’s own Stylus Pen, many tech enthusiasts are hopeful that the foldable device will follow suit.
The digital stylus, which was launched with the OnePlus Pad earlier this year, would be an ideal addition for note-taking, doodling, and other productivity tasks. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 already supports this feature, albeit with the S Pen sold separately. Including stylus support could give the OnePlus Open an edge over devices like the Google Fold, which currently lacks this feature.

Battery Life
One of the biggest concerns users have when considering a new smartphone is its battery life. Will the OnePlus Open have a long-lasting battery? Given that the device is expected to feature a large, high-resolution display and powerful processors, it would need a robust battery to support these high-performance components without compromising on usage time.
While the battery is supposed to be 4800mAh in capacity, it’s safe to say that OnePlus may also include 67W fast charging. This will ensure that it comfortably lasts a full day of use and you can rapidly charge the phone when necessary.
Launch Date & Availability
OnePlus strategically sidestepped July because of the launch of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. As a result, it’s highly speculated that OnePlus Open will make its debut in either September or October. On Twitter, tech enthusiasts have tipped off that the Oppo Find N3, a phone expected to share numerous specifications with the OnePlus Open, was slated for unveiling on August 29th in China.
But since that didn’t happen we expect we might see the launch in a few months. Once it is launched in China we can expect it to reach other countries by the end of this year. The timing appears to be carefully planned to avoid clashing with Samsung’s product launch while also capitalizing on the buzz created by the Oppo Find N3.
