Xiaomi XRING 01 launches for smartphones

Xiaomi is set to launch the XRING 01 in May end 2025 in China. This signals the arrival of its latest self-developed and designed smartphone SoC. This marks a significant milestone in Xiaomi’s decade-long journey into chip development, which began in September 2014.

In 2017, Xiaomi introduced its first mobile chip, the Surge S1, which powered the Mi 5c smartphone. The following year, the Surge S2 was unveiled at MWC 2018 and was expected to feature in the Mi 6X. However, Xiaomi later opted for the Snapdragon 660 instead, putting its chip plans on hold.

Now, after seven years, Xiaomi is making a comeback in chip manufacturing with a fresh start under the new name “XRING.”

What To Expect From This Chipset?

The leaks reveal that the new XRING 01 boasts impressive specifications, with real-world tests outperforming many expectations. It is rumored to have an octa-core configuration with a 1+3+4 setup: a Cortex-X925 prime core clocked at 3.2GHz, three Cortex-A725 performance cores at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A520 efficiency cores running at 2.0GHz.

The company may include a self-designed Image Signal Processor (ISP) in the XRING 01, while potentially sourcing the 5G modem and DSP from partners like MediaTek, Synopsys, or Huawei.

The new chipset by Xiaomi may feature an Imagination Technologies IMG DXT72 GPU running at a clock speed of 1.3 GHz. Thus, its chip’s performance is set to exceed that of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, we need to wait for its launch to know the exact performance details. So, stay tuned for more.
