    On 19 November, several media channels on Reddit and X exposed that WhatsApp has reportedly leaked around 3.5 billion mobile numbers to a third-party through data sharing. This meant that all our contacts and numbers had been leaked. 

    However, as soon as WhatsApp got to know this, it issued a clarification through the channel of Meta Bunty Bug. 

    The Truth: Meta Issues Clarification

    WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, just issued a clarification on this buzzing news and cleared the air with solid and true information. 

    Here is what it quoted: “….there was no data leak or security flaw. These are results from an academic research WhatsApp collaborated on through our Bug Bounty programme to help identify and successfully mitigate potential gaps against novel enumeration/scraping methods.

    No non-public data was accessible to the researchers, they securely deleted the data collated as part of the study, and we’ve found no evidence of adversarial abuse of this vector.”
