The USPTO recently granted a faceplate patent to Sony, suggesting the next PS5 faceplates launch by the company. The PS5 has increased the PlayStation fanbase at large, and the audience is demanding an all-black version of the new-gen console for a long time. Interestingly, Sony is quite popular when it comes to launching new colour variants. Thus, hopefully, the Play station 5 users can receive good news in the form of all-black PS5 faceplates and other colour variants.
Recently, Op Attack spotted Sony Interactive Entertainment filing for a PS5 faceplate patent with the USPTO in November 2020. The patent dated November 16, 2021, signifies the filing was recently granted and will survive for a term of 15 years. Thus it means that PS5 can now receive official covers for their faceplates from Sony.

Sony files patents for PS5 faceplates
Earlier, PS5 fans relied on various other third-party companies like Dbrand, Customize My Platest for their all-black console requirements. These websites let customers purchase shells in a wide variety of colours, including gold and transparent designs. Among them, Dbrand had been selling a matte-black faceplate variant for the PS5, despite knowing about legal consequences from Sony – which ultimately did happen, and Dbrand removed their faceplates from the market.

As now Sony is filing patents for their faceplate, there is a possibility of new colour variants of the PS5 unveiling soon. Ever since PS5 launched, black faceplates for the hardware are at the top wishlist for most of the users. Besides, previously the internet was filled with the possibilities for replaceable faceplates that someday will become reality.
The latest PS5 faceplates design renders showcase the plate from front, back, and side perspectives. All in all, it is not different from the plates currently available in the market.
The details about PS5 being a one-off limited edition console or single custom faceplates are yet to be revealed. The PS5 has been a massively successful console for Sony as it is the fastest-selling console in history. It has only faced a slow down in sales due to the semiconductor shortage that likely won’t end until 2022.
