That’s the question Meta is facing after the Indian government took action over Instagram advertisements linked to Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM), raising serious concerns about platform accountability.     Meta Asked To Put Instagram Ads Ban On Abusive Content

    The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) has issued a stern legal notice to Meta regarding paid advertisements on Instagram promoting Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM). 

    Following directives from IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the government has ordered Meta to immediately disable all content and ads facilitating access to such illegal material.  

    ​The action follows a BBC investigation revealing that Instagram’s ad ecosystem hosted explicit keywords directing users to external networks like Telegram, where child abuse material was sold.

    MeitY has given Meta a strict seven-day ultimatum to explain its moderation lapses. 

    Meta’s Response Says This

    Meta stated it maintains a zero-tolerance policy and has disabled the offending accounts and URLs. Also, Meta has agreed to cooperate with the Indian government in this matter and take care of the advertisement content that is going online.
