    Sell Back Programme: How it works?

India’s very own e-commerce platform Flipkart announces the Sell Back Programme. It offers customers a platform to sell their used mobile phones. Although it will initially start off with smartphones. It eventually include other categories of products offered on Flipkart. Now, this programme comes after Flipkart’s acquisition of Yaantra. Moreover, this new program is already live in major Indian cities, across more than 1,500 pin codes.

Sell Back Programme: How it works?

Flipkart’s Sell Back Programme will be applicable for all smartphones — whether purchased from Flipkart or elsewhere. The new programme is live in around 1,700 pin codes across major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Patna, and more. When customers sell their used smartphones on Flipkart, they will get an e-voucher from the e-commerce platform, which the company claims will be of the “right buy-back value.”

According to the company, the new programme is on the Flipkart app, marked by a new option on the app’s bottom bar. However, as of writing this, it is not seen in the app right now. The e-commerce platform announced that the new buyback programme will be available for smartphones initially. It will also include other categories later this year.

Customers can visit the Flipkart app and select “Sell back” from the options in the bottom bar. One can assess the value of the used mobile phone by answering 3 simple questions. Post customer confirmation, a Flipkart executive will pick up the product from their doorstep within 48 hours. Post verification, Flipkart voucher to be issued within a few hours, as per the confirmed sell back value.

Meanwhile, a recent IDC survey shows that approximately 125 million used smartphones are in circulation in India each year. Out of these, only 20 million smartphones reach the second-hand market. The remaining number of used smartphones amounts to extensive e-waste.
