Checking your Provident Fund (PF) balance no longer has to involve logging into the EPFO website or navigating multiple online services. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a new WhatsApp service that allows members to access important account details directly through the messaging app.
With the new EPFO WhatsApp Service, subscribers can check their PF balance, view passbook information and access details of their latest five transactions. The facility also offers personalised guidance for members completing requirements under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY).

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the service on November 1 during the EPFO's 74th Foundation Day celebrations. The initiative aims to make routine PF services easier to access and reduce the need for members to visit EPFO offices.
What Can You Check Using the EPFO WhatsApp Service?

The new service brings some commonly used EPFO facilities to WhatsApp. Members will be able to access the following information:
- PF balance: Check the available balance in your EPF account.
- Passbook details: Access your EPF passbook information.
- Latest transactions: View details of your five most recent PF transactions.
- PMVBRY assistance: Get personalised guidance for completing requirements related to the employment-linked scheme.
This means subscribers can use WhatsApp to keep track of their PF savings and recent account activity without having to navigate the EPFO portal for these routine checks.

How to Check Your PF Balance On WhatsApp
EPFO has shared a dedicated WhatsApp number for the new service. Members can follow these steps to access their account information:
- Save +91 8796441800 in your phone's contacts.
- Open WhatsApp and start a chat with this number.
- Send Hi to begin the conversation.
- Follow the chatbot instructions and complete the required verification.
- Select the option for PF balance, passbook details or recent transactions.
Your mobile number should be linked to your Universal Account Number (UAN) to access the account-related services. You can also use the QR code shared through EPFO's official communication to open the WhatsApp service.
Make sure you use the number shared by EPFO through its verified channels. Avoid sharing your UAN password, OTP or other confidential details with anyone claiming to offer PF assistance.
EPFO Also Introduces Automatic Settlement Of Small Inoperative Accounts
Alongside the WhatsApp service, EPFO has introduced automatic settlement for eligible inoperative provident fund accounts.
Under this facility, members with Aadhaar-verified inoperative EPF accounts holding a balance of up to ₹1,000 will not have to file individual claims to receive their dues.
EPFO will start the settlement process after completing the required identity and bank account verification. The eligible amount will then be transferred to the rightful beneficiary.
According to the Labour Ministry, around one lakh accounts involving approximately ₹5 crore are expected to benefit from this initiative.
What Does This Mean For PF Account Holders?
The new EPFO WhatsApp Service gives subscribers another way to access important PF information. Instead of visiting an office or navigating the online portal for routine account checks, members can use a familiar messaging app to view their balance and recent transactions.
The automatic settlement facility could also help eligible members recover small amounts left in inactive PF accounts without submitting individual claims. Together, these changes are aimed at making EPFO services more convenient and accessible for employees.
