The ColorOS 17 beta testing program has officially started for the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R in India. The rollout marks the first step in OnePlus' transition from OxygenOS to ColorOS, following the company's earlier announcement that future Android 17 updates for eligible OnePlus devices will be based on OPPO's ColorOS platform.

The closed beta program is currently limited to 300 users, giving selected participants early access to the upcoming software before its public release. Applications are open for a limited time, and interested users must complete a qualification process before joining the program.

What To Expect From ColorOS 17

ColorOS 17 is expected to introduce several design improvements and performance enhancements based on Android 17.

    Expected features include:

    • Rounded interface elements across the system
    • Redesigned buttons and pop-up menus
    • Improved Luminous Rendering Engine
    • Faster system performance
    • Better battery efficiency
    • Improved software stability

Although OnePlus devices are moving to ColorOS, the company has confirmed that users will have the option to roll back to OxygenOS 16 after the stable ColorOS 17 update becomes available later this year.

Earlier versions of OxygenOS already shared the same underlying codebase as ColorOS while maintaining a few unique design elements. It remains to be seen whether these OnePlus-specific features will continue in ColorOS 17.

With the launch of the ColorOS 17 beta testing, OnePlus begins a major software transition that aims to deliver faster updates, improved stability, and a more unified software experience across OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme devices.
