  • If you’ve been tracking smartphone launches, you’ve probably noticed that Motorola has been slowly rebuilding its position in the premium segment. After years of playing safe in the mid-range space, the brand now seems ready to take a bigger leap with something new called the Motorola Edge 70 Max.

The Motorola Edge 70 Max was officially launched on July 15, 2026, at a starting price of ₹54,999. The phone comes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, 6.8″ Extreme AMOLED Display, 7100mAh and other advanced specs.

So instead of just another refresh, you might be looking at a phone that changes design language, boosts performance, and brings a stronger focus on AI.

Motorola Edge 70 Max Price And Variants

Motorola has launched the Edge 70 Max in two configurations:

    VariantPrice
    8GB RAM + 256GB₹54,999
    12GB RAM + 256GB₹59,999

The phone is available in PANTONE Aqua Gray, PANTONE Dark Shadow and PANTONE Ice Melt colour options. Sales started in India on July 20 through Motorola’s channels, Flipkart and select retail stores.

If you are looking at the phone primarily for gaming or long-term use, the 12GB version gives you more memory headroom. For regular use, however, the 8GB model already has a fairly capable hardware setup.

A New Design Direction For The Edge Series

Motorola has made a noticeable change to the Edge 70 Max’s design.

Instead of relying on the curved-screen look associated with several previous Edge models, the Motorola Edge 70 Max uses a flat-edge design with an aluminium frame. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, while the overall construction also gets IP68 and IP69 ratings along with MIL-STD-810H certification.

That flat design is not just about looks. If you game on your phone, flat edges can make the device easier to grip and reduce accidental touches around the sides of the screen.

The phone weighs around 221 grams and measures 8.29mm thick, so the large battery does come with some extra weight.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Brings The Performance Upgrade

The biggest change underneath the design is the processor.

The Motorola Edge 70 Max is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

    snapdragon 8 gen 5

For you, this means the phone is built to handle demanding workloads rather than just everyday social media and browsing.

You can expect it to comfortably handle multitasking, demanding apps and high-end games. Motorola has also positioned the Edge 70 Max as a gaming-focused phone, with support for gaming at up to 120fps in compatible titles.

To help control temperatures during heavier workloads, Motorola has added an ArcticMesh cooling system with a 5,500mm² vapour chamber.

That matters because raw processor power is only useful if the phone can sustain performance when you push it for longer periods.

The 6.8-Inch Display Is One Of Its Biggest Highlights

The display is where the Edge 70 Max starts feeling like a proper premium phone.

You get a 6.8-inch QHD+ Extreme AMOLED LTPO display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels. The panel also supports HDR10+ and can reach up to 7,000 nits of peak brightness according to Motorola’s specifications.

The 144Hz refresh rate should make scrolling, animations and supported games feel noticeably smoother. The LTPO technology also allows the refresh rate to adapt depending on what you are doing, helping balance smoothness with battery efficiency.

There is also a 360Hz touch sampling rate, which should be particularly useful while gaming because the screen can respond quickly to your touches.

And because this is a QHD+ panel, text, images and videos can look sharper than they would on a typical Full HD+ display.

A Huge 7,100mAh Battery Changes The Equation

Battery life is another area where Motorola has gone big.

The Edge 70 Max packs a 7,100mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is significantly larger than what you typically find on premium smartphones. It supports 90W TurboPower wired charging, so you do not have to wait around for hours when the battery runs low.

But Motorola has not stopped at wired charging.

You also get 25W Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, along with 5W reverse wired charging.

The large battery should be particularly useful if you spend a lot of time gaming, streaming videos, using navigation or simply want to avoid carrying a charger everywhere.

The trade-off is the phone’s weight. A 7,100mAh battery is impressive, but you should expect the device to feel heavier than many slimmer premium phones.

Dual Rear Cameras Instead Of Chasing Camera Numbers

Motorola has taken a slightly different approach to the camera setup.

The Edge 70 Max has a 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 primary camera with OIS, paired with an 8MP ultra-wide camera that also works for macro photography. On the front, you get a 32MP selfie camera.

This is a dual-camera setup rather than a long list of sensors added mainly for numbers.

The 50MP primary camera is the one you will likely use most of the time. Its optical image stabilisation should help when you are shooting handheld, particularly in lower-light situations or while recording video.

The 8MP ultra-wide camera gives you a wider perspective for landscapes, architecture and group shots. It can also be used for close-up macro photography.

For video, the phone supports 4K recording, while the front camera can also record 4K video.

Motorola has also added AI-focused camera tools such as the Photo Enhancement Engine, Horizon Lock and Frame Match. These features are designed to make shooting and editing easier rather than simply increasing the megapixel count.

Motorola Qira Brings AI Into The Picture

The Edge 70 Max is also one of Motorola’s phones to introduce Qira, the company’s newer AI platform.

Instead of treating AI as just a collection of photo-editing features, Motorola is positioning Qira as a cross-device platform that can work across Motorola phones and Lenovo PCs and tablets.

That gives the Edge 70 Max a more connected approach to AI. Depending on the feature, you can use AI for tasks such as summarising information, working with content and getting assistance across compatible devices.

Some of the headline AI capabilities are also tied to the 12GB RAM variant, so that is something to keep in mind if AI features are one of the main reasons you are considering this phone.

Built To Survive More Than Everyday Use

Motorola has also focused heavily on durability.

    Motorola Edge 70 Max

The Edge 70 Max comes with IP68 and IP69 ratings and MIL-STD-810H certification. In practical terms, this gives the phone better protection against water, dust and demanding environmental conditions than many regular smartphones.

It does not mean that you can treat the phone as indestructible. However, if you are someone who takes your phone outdoors, travels frequently or simply wants some additional protection against everyday mishaps, this is a useful addition.

The aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass 7i also add to the premium construction.

    Software And Connectivity

The Edge 70 Max runs Android 16 with Motorola’s Hello UI out of the box. Motorola has promised up to three Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates.

For connectivity, you get 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC and USB Type-C. The phone also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The combination gives the phone a fairly complete flagship-style feature set, particularly if you are planning to keep it for several years.

What Makes The Edge 70 Max Different?

The interesting thing about the Edge 70 Max is that Motorola has not focused on just one specification.

    You get a QHD+ 144Hz display, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, a 7,100mAh battery, 90W wired charging, 25W wireless charging, a 50MP OIS camera and a strong durability rating.

That combination makes the phone feel more performance-focused than many earlier Edge models.

The large battery and cooling system are particularly important because Motorola is clearly targeting people who want to game on their phones. At the same time, features like wireless charging, a high-resolution display, AI tools and IP ratings make it useful beyond gaming.

Should You Buy The Motorola Edge 70 Max?

The answer depends on what you want from your next phone.

If performance and gaming are your priorities, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, 144Hz display, 120fps gaming support and dedicated cooling system make the Edge 70 Max an interesting option.

If battery life matters more to you, the 7,100mAh battery is one of the phone’s biggest advantages.

And if you care about display quality, the QHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate gives you plenty to work with.

And if you want a phone that can handle rougher everyday conditions, the IP68, IP69 and MIL-STD-810H certifications add another layer of reassurance.

The camera setup is more restrained than some competitors, though. You get a capable 50MP primary camera and an ultra-wide sensor, but there is no dedicated telephoto camera. So if long-range zoom photography is particularly important to you, you may want to compare other phones before making a decision.
